Mon Sep 13 2010Cats. They don't bark or howl in the middle of the night, waking myself and the neighbors. They're less needy and also not stinky. And they have AWESOME tongues. It's like sandpaper. I managed to get one that likes to give tons of kisses. I get a free body exfoliation nearly every day.

Mon Sep 13 2010As an outdoor pet, I'll go with the dog. As an indoor pet, I'll go with neither.

Thu Oct 29 2009Cats are just as good as dogs. Both of them love their owners. Turtles and some other animals feel no love. I have two cats who love me very much. I wouldn't sell them even if I was offered $1,000,000.

Fri Apr 25 2008I like them both but I'll definitely go with the cats. They're way easier to maintain and they take care of their own personal hygiens.

Wed Apr 23 2008I've had both. My preference is for dogs; I've had 2 during my lifetime, and loved them both. Both dogs were of the same breed, and the first one we had was a male. He was actually a nice dog, but was temperamental, looked fierce, and tended to scare people by barking savagely and lunging at them (he wasn't one to actually bite, but when I first got him, I pretended to lose control of him with a friend of mine who was frightened of dogs, and the dog...maybe sensing his fear... actually nipped him on the ass, elevating my friend's fear to terror. Needless to say, I never played that "joke" on anybody again). Funny story: When he was young, the dog had a tendency to jump up on the legs of anybody standing around and hump like crazy. As he aged, that came to a stop except when one male friend of mine stopped over occasionally. This guy looked like a hood from some 1950's film noir feature, with his leather jacket, greasy black hair, and motorcycle boots. Every time he came over, my old do... Read more

Sat Feb 23 2008I like both, but I'm going to lean toward cats, mostly because of my schedule and lifestyle. Cats are much more independent than dogs and do more to take care of themselves. Cats need attention too, but don't seem to rely on it as much as dogs. I keep pretty strange hours that are always changing, so I just don't think it's fair of me to leave a dog home alone cooped up in the house so much, and with more than one dog I could come home to a disaster. Cats can get a little rough on the furniture, but the two I have left (the third one died a couple of weeks ago) mostly just nap and eat when I'm not here.

Thu Jun 01 2006I'm torn between the two. They both have great qualities and personalities.

Fri Apr 28 2006I have always had my fair amount of both, I love both, but I prefer dogs. They tend to be more attention-seeking, playful, and all around characters. They just have a spunk that cats usually lack, although I admit there ARE exceptions to this.

Thu Dec 22 2005I adore all of God's creatures. I've had both dogs and cats of my own and have taken care of other's pets as well. Two years ago, a pregnant calico appeared inside my home, in the doorway of the hall. I didn't know she was pregnant at the time and I had someone take her to the nearest animal shelter because she had a flea collar on, so, I thought someone must have lost her. Two weeks later she showed up again and refused to leave...made herself right at home as though she'd always been with me. Her name is Willy, now. She and her three sets of twins are doing just fine and she gets along with my parakeet also. The twins have been distributed to family members who also love God's creatures. Pets make a great topic! Peace. Sharon

Wed Dec 07 2005I luv both animals but id have to go with DOGS! Dogs are loyal, gentle creatures. If a burgaler came into the house a dog would risk its life trying to save its family, a cat would run!

Wed Nov 23 2005This is actually something I share in common with G. W. Bush: I use to be a huge fan dogs, but since getting married, my wife has gone a long way in helping me better appreciate cats - both the large (wild) and small (domestic) varieties alike. Certainly no other animal is more graceful, cunning or in many ways, mysterious. There is also something extremely sensual about the feline species that is difficult to describe. Ancient Egyptian culture believed they were God-like and thus, and worthy of tremendous social status. In sum; while dogs are more obvious, obedient and easily loveable, don't be so quick to toss the number 2 domestic creature aside...

Wed Oct 26 2005You can often tell a lot about people by which pet they prefer.Dogs are "pack animals"-they're seen as Loyal, obediant & protective.Cats, although they sometimes hunt in packs, are fiercely independant.Cats have more associations with Magick, and, although Dogs were sacred to several Godesses,it is the Egyptian Cat Godess Bast who seems better known.(And,so,cat's are unfairly associated with "black magic" and such nonsense).Language is also a key to understanding how we percieve Dog/vs/Cat. When someone "Dogs" someone,or treats them "like a Dog"-the association isn't a good one. There's Doggerel, and Dogma. Then there's always the "Catty" remark.I love all animals, but must admit I prefer Cats for their beauty, grace, affection without groveling and easy maintainance. If I had a big property,I'd probably have a few nice big dogs, too.

Wed Oct 26 2005I'm both a dog person and a cat person. A dog person when I've got Fluffy's hair all over my professional clothes, and a cat person when Fido asked to be walked in the middle of an important ballgame. Only kidding, I love both.

Wed Oct 26 2005This one is a great topic, if that's what a 5 rating means. One of humanity's essential questions, are you a dog person or a cat person? What does your choice say about you as a person? Can dog people and cat live together in peace? What can we learn from each? Which are smarter? Deep down, I think people start out as dog people but may come around to cats as they grow up and get more mellow. You never hear of a kid trying to put a dog in the dryer, do you?

Tue Oct 25 2005If i had to choose, it would be dogs. I have had cats and dogs there are good things about both. I just seem to be more of a dog person.

Tue Oct 25 2005I love dogs and cats...I just don't want to have one of my own. Pets are a nuisance. They get fur, crap, and urine everywhere and are a money pit as well. If I had to choose, I would go with dogs, but only if they stay outdoors.

Tue Oct 25 2005Dogs win in a landslide. Unlike cats, who are nasty, spoiled, ungrateful, and spiteful, dogs actually appreciate their masters and look out for them. Cats don't seem to do anything but sit and expect their masters to bow to their every need. I've even heard that cats aren't even loyal to their masters; they'll just hang out with anyone who'll give them food. I freakin' HATE cats. Completely useless animals.

Tue Jun 07 2005DOGS. Cats are mean, they scratch, they just want food from you so they can get fatter whilst the lay around on their lazy butts and do nothing but put allergins in the air. Dog's are the most loyal companions man has ever had. In some cases, even more so than other people.

Wed Jun 01 2005Dogs are a mans best friend...we have all heard it. And we have all never heard the same or anything similar about Cats. They are just so different and useless in my opinion. Dogs all the way here. Cats are takers. They lie around and dont really need a humans presence unless they want to eat or be touched. They are totally oblivious to our emotions or mood, unlike a dog who is paying attention constantly. Cats are for the person who wants the presence of an animal without the interaction, and what is the benefit of that, unless you just like the smell of ammonia and urine amplified 10 times. I never have understood cat people.

Wed May 11 2005i have both and there are pros and cons with both the species. dogs are affectionate and loyal and alot of work just like having a child. i have 2 full grown pitbulls which i love but i have decided that this will be the last large dogs i will have. the fact that they are pitbulls have nothing to do with it. in fact ive had more problems with human beings with preconceived ideas of the breed then ive had with the breed itself. its only been difficult due to some personal issues that downsizing has having 2 large dogs harder but im a firm believer that a pet is a life time commitment not dispensable the minute a problem arises. having a cat can be less maintenance but they also can be very indifferent and resistent to attempts of affection or play and then are very demanding when they want something

Mon May 09 2005I am a devoted cat person. Cats are very effectionate, caring, and playful. Sometimes, my cat is a pain in the a**, but most pets can be.

Sat May 07 2005Ah...the debate that has outlasted them all; well, maybe not. In any case, I still prefer dogs over cats simply because I don't see any real benefit to them. Call me superficial but I'm perfectly happy with my Miniature Schnauzer and I'm pretty sure she's happy with me (though probably not my wife...oddly enough).

Sat May 07 2005I used to be a solid dog person, until I moved in with two cats. Now I'm right in the middle. I still love my dog, and the way she's always excited to see me when I come home, but when a cat does decide to pay you some attention, it's a little more meaningful since they usually just ignore you.

Sat May 07 2005(2=lean slightly towards cat) I love both, and I also like birds, fish, frogs, whatever. I have a very slight preference to cats, though; they generally tend to be calmer, and I love their purr. Overall, though, it depends on the individual cat/dog.

Sat May 07 2005A five in favor of dogs. I've had dogs all my life. I love them dearly and enjoy spending time with them. I currently own a mixed Labrador Retriever.
