I liked him until he started working as a lobbyist for the Turkish government, to got the House to not recognize the Armenian genocide.

Gephardt was one of those politicians who was always around power, but never quite got to the top. He wasn't patient enough: had he not decided to retire 2 years ago, he'd be Speaker of the House today. He really wanted the Presidency, but only one speaker of the House has ever been elected President. I was surprised that Kerry didn't pick him as his VP candidate in 2004. He would have brought some policy substance to the Democratic ticket, along with support in the Midwest, which might have been very helpful for Kerry.

Boring, unexciting, but good for labor causes, so I respect him for that. Has anyone seen this man's lost eyebrows?

Should have been the Dem nominee in 2004. Should have been VP at the very least.

Hello, is this the dentist? I am scheduled to hear a Dick Gephardt speech, and I am wondering if you could squeeze me in during that time for a general teeth grinding and 32 root canals?

One of the last genltlemen on the left. I do not agree with his politics at all, but at least he is intelligent and willing to work for the good of the country. He is a dying breed on the left side of the fence. They could use more like him.

DiamondDavid is right on when he says that Gephardt abandoned his pro-life and pro-gun stance to better fit his mainstream liberal agenda, which was to get elected. I am not sure he has any core principles and when do liberals ever have positive messages?

Too little, too late. Could've been the man to lead Democrats in 1992. He wasn't the man to lead Democrats in 2004. He has some core principles, most notably supporting labor unions, but like Al Gore, Gephardt had a pro-life, pro-gun voting record that was abandoned once he became a mainstream Democrat. He didn't have a positive message during his campaign, and came off more gloom and doom than the other candidates. Due to his personality, I don't think it was coincidental that he was the first one who exited the race.

Bland, colorless political hangeroner whose entire career has been an exercise in patience while he kept his eye on the prize, namely, the Presidential nomination. Totally unrealistic enterprise in that this guy doesn't appeal to anyone, really. It's hysterical how these guys who rise to their level of incompetance in the Congress feel they have the Right Stuff to go even higher. Self-delusional is the word for it. Furthermore, this guy is too old to consider seriously for the Top Spot. The days of nominating seasoned bureaucrats and political hacks are over in that Americans became hip to the pitfalls of having over-60 types, like geriatric Bush I and that totally awful old fossil Ronnie Rectum, in the Oval Office. The Democratic Party is in serious need of new leadership, and has been for about 20 years, when you consider how high up in the party this birdbath rose.

If they ever revive The Howdy Doodie Show,I nominate Gefart for Howdie. He is the quintessential phoney bologna plastic banana insincere game show host that talks right through you.He is the shallowest and most insincere body snatched clone man I have ever seen. This socialist is a programmed friggin robot. He treats people like they are kandergarteners and he's the teacher. He talks down to people. He is nothing but a ventriliquist puppet that every socialist union and homo group has their hands attached to his puppet strings. This guy is even more wooden than Gore and craps sawdust.

He seems to be an honest and well-intentioned man. I do commend him as of late for not steering away from his opposition to the war. As the Democratic leader in the Congress, he helped steer the votes for President Clinton's 1993 Economic Plan which led to the longest period of economic expansion in history. He seems far too liberal to win the Presidency, but he does seem to be a good man.

"Dick" is another self-serving, agonizingly trivial and small-minded democrat who is unwilling and incapable of handling the largest and most critical issues that challenge our country. About three months ago, Gephardt was chronicled on CSpan, going from house to house in Missouri, in an attempt to drum up support for his political campaign; the funniest part about watching him visit common folks and voters was that out of many people he approached on his door-to-door soiree, only a handful recognized him as an "important" person. Gephardt and Daschle should form a new political party called the "Ambivalent" Party.

First of all, I find most of the critics giving Dick one stars to have trailer park knowledge on politics. Religion and politics are seperate, or else we will be become just like the enemy that we are now fighting. Secondly, The Republicans have had domination for the last 2 years and I see the country sinking slowly back to the catastophy that Bush Sr left us. I think Dick Gephardt would bring back the American people their government if he was to be elected president. Bill Clinton was for the people, and not for big corporations to run the country; if Dick Gephardt could follow the ideals of Bill Clinton, but keep his pen in his pocket, he would be the best president ever.

As a Republican I salute you for your never changing stance on the war....You have taken a lot of pot shots from your own Democratic party in order to do so...You have been true to your belief....I believe the future of the Democratic party lies in good people like you and Liberman who stick by their guns...My hero is F.D.R....All of my family voted for him....We have just become so disgusted with the Democratic Party as a whole that we have switched parties. What in the world has happened to your Party? Or should I say who has taken it over?

A good man. Too far to the left to mount a credible presidential campaign and still stick to his roots. Conversely, he was pro-life back in the early 80s. Now, he's pro-choice. I have to be a little leary of his character since abortion rights is the primary litmus test for any Democratic presidential candidate. He's made some other turnarounds when he began to get ambitious.

I've been following this guy in the news now for the better part of 15 years. During the 1988 presidential campaign, I seem to recall that he advocated stricter tariffs and other regulations to clamp down on the trade deficit with Japan. At the time, this sounded like a good idea (now, I'm not so sure). However, he was at least expressing a constructive thought in trying to solve a problem. Since that time, I've noticed a dearth of helpful ideas on his part--during the Clinton years, the only times I recall hearing much out of him was in Clinton's defense. In the last 18 months, the only times I recall hearing much out of him was to bash George W. Bush. Dick, you seriously need to find a real issue to take leadership with. When it happens, I may not agree with you politically, but at least you'll have something more constructive to occupy your time.

This man continually uses fear, unreasonable fear to get attention. For 8 plus years, he has said NOTHING about energy, especailly with the former man in the white house. NOW, he wants to blame Bush for California's energy problems? I don't think so, they REFUSED to build any power plants for their own people!!!!! The "greenies" refused to support real human beings, and now they wish to blame Bush? Get a life, stop reading Gore's "Earth in the Balance" because California is starting to LIVE it!!! These people don't care about people other than themselves and the stupid owls and sucker fish. Let them fix their own problems, but leave the rest of us out of their stupid animal plans! They could all go and live with Redford, on HIS massive property, and maybe they could learn that humans do count! What a bunch of idiots!

Dick, you are the epitome of what is wrong with America. How you can side with the enemys of this United States is beyond me. Of course we know your either obssesive compulsive or just plain dumb, but do you always have to prove the fact ? Your best best is to keep your ignorant mounth zipped and your pea brained ideas to yourself. Your silly and we the American public know it. Why else do you think your not in a power position ? I know I'll probably get some feedback form this thought but it is well worth it to at least say how I, and others feel about your weak minded opinions. Dick, Please go away.

Mr. Gepharht should spend a little more time being construtive rather than destructive. His only purpose in Washington is create little sound bites that tear down the opposing viewpoints. Of course he would like to be speaker and better yet president. But for those of you who keep voting him into office do a little R & D on this guy. Granted he's a nice guy, but dig deep.

one of the meanest, most obnoxious, race baiting democrats that there is. I liked him at one time, but his defense of the criminal President, and his willingness to participate in the character assassination of good men, has changed my opinion. I'm from Mo. and he has shown me what a jerk he is.

Dick reminds me of my Chief in the Navy. His face is always red and he always looks mad and flustered. Personally, I attribute that to the fact that oxygen intended to go to the brain is diverted to his face. Should be casted in "The Crying Game II."

Dick Gephardt should encourage Al Gore to concede the election like a man, and work very hard to reform election/campaign laws. Dick Gephardt should also ask Jesse Jackson to leave politics, along with Al Gore. These men are dividing the nation!

    Tue Dec 12 2000

Gephardt is a sad excuse for a leader. He is concerned only with his personal aggrandizement and his pipedream of one day being the Speaker of the House. Why else would an apparently sensible man, albeit a stinking liberal, actually pretend, with a straight face, to believe Al Gore has a legitimate claim to the presidency? Any dolt can see that Al Gore is trying to steal the election. There are no valid claims for him to pursue this farce he has dragged the nation through for over a month now...yet there is the slavering Gephardt, pumping Gore, selling the lie as visions of the Speakership dance in his fevered mind. Wash yourself Gephardt, grow a conscience, think of America before yourself, and find some integrity. You are a sham and a fraud.

I may not live in Dick Gebhardt's district, but that will not stop me from assisting those who are trying to find someone to run against him at the next election! His siding first with Clinton and now with Gore only shows he is NOT interest in upholding the law, on getting his way. We have enough of those people, we need new blood.

Stands on the White House lawn with Clinton, on the side of liars and adulterors, conference calls with Gore...on the side of cheats. I am very disappointed in one of our Missouri leaders when I watched Al Gore's phone party with Dick Gephardt on 11/27/00. If Dick knew what was best for the Democratic party, he would tell Al Gore that it is time to throw in the towel. Instead he choses to be Al Gore's "puppet". I thought that Dick Gephardt was a leader --- turns out that he can be manipulated if the "price is right".

Rep. Richard Gephardt has all of the right tools to be a President of the United States. I hope he soon becomes House Speaker and also a candidate for the Whie House in the next election or two.
