I went to Dessange for the first time today. I am a man with short hair that's not too easy to cut because of color variations, weird growth angles and somewhat curly hair but they did a fantastic job. I don't quite understand some of the bad reviews. It is an upscale salon, so they do go out of their way to provide great service (take your coat, offer beverages, actually smile at you...) - not sure how this is a negative. It is true that English is not the mother tongue of most (maybe all) of the staff, but this is a French salon, and I found that it was easy to communicate with everyone I encountered. The place is spotless, the location is great (in the heart of the South End), the people are friendly and professional, and they give excellent cuts. It's a winner in my book!

going to this salon was a big mistake for me. i had gone to the dessange in ohio and loved the work they did there so when i heard that there was going to be a dessange opening in boston i was very excited. i live in natick and i thought it was worth the drive. when i had called to make my appointment the women i spoke with didnt understand a word of english. i was trying to tell her what day i wanted to come in and what i wanted done and i was on the phone with her for about 15 mins untill she finally understood what i wanted and i was still unsure of what had happened. she had made me an appointment with someone she said was the "best", he was from france and apparently knew how to do exactly what i wanted. so the day of my appointment i arrive and i step one foot into the salon and there is five people around me one trying to take my coat, one trying to get me coffee and the other trying to check me in. it was too much for me but after everyone had left, i was offered coffee five mo... Well, first, I have been trying forever to look at the website since they opened. They finally have a new one up but it is such a clustered mess it's hard to find what you're looking for. It needs to be more concise and to the point. So, my experience was about a month and a half ago so things may have changed. I called the salon and had a hard time understanding the receptionist. She couldn't answer all my questions or maybe didn't understand them. I went into the salon and was greeted by four employees who were friendly enough but I felt a bit clausterphobic and creeped out with them all smiling and staring at me. Before a hello I was immediately asked to please sit down. I got a decent haircut, but don't think the stylist quite understood what I was looking for even with a picture in hand. Could be a language barrier, but I would expect their stylists to speak fluent English. Decent cut but don't think I'll go back. Salon was super clean, like a hospital being all white. N... i went into dessange after walking by it every day for a TRIM.. im growing my hair out and it was getting ratty. i told the stylist what i wanted (same length just trim the layers) and she kind of gave me blank looks.. after cutting my hair for almost 2 hours, i realized that she took 2 inches off my already too short hair!!!!! i almost cried.. the haircut does not suit my hair at all! - she gave me a super short bob on thick curly hair!! icant style it and i hate the way it looks curly, i look like a lion! the only good thing about this place was the espresso they kept shoving at me! even the decor drove me crazy, its pretty much all white, i felt like i was in a hospital. definitely not worth $90 for a haircut!!!!

I went there on my birthday and got a haircut with Julian. I just asked him to do whatever he thinks would look best. He took time to look at my face from different angles and after working with different types of shears and a razor I ended up with a modern, stylish and expensive looking cut. I loved the shape! I got tons of compliments on it and it lasted for a long time. Julian was very friendly, attentive and I would definately be back for a cut with him and I will give my wife a gift certificate to see him. Next time I'll try the esspresso but the tea I got was great. :)

I came to Dessange with a hair 911! My color was awful. I met with the colorist Crystal and I knew immediately I was in the right hands. She knew exactly what I wanted and needed, and assured me that should would make my hair healthier that when I came in. My hair has NEVER been shiny! She did this French henna treatment in my color, put it this way I was soooo blown away, shine, shine, shine. Crystal then did "balayagge" a way of producing natural hilites that do not damage the hair. It was like watching an artist. She recommended that I come back in a few days for a Palm Treatment. My hair is like new. Im sad to say I'm moving to NY but I will definitely be traveling 5 hrs to see her again. I highly highly recommend you go see Crystal.
