Wed Sep 30 2009I purchased this and used couple times. It works pretty good with 2 problems though? IS THIS RUST PROOF? BECAUSE THE BASKET STARTED TO RUST IN JUST TWO USINGS. I' m not sure it' s food stains, or rust but I' m having great trouble reusing it until I figure out why the basket browned a bit. seems like rust but I am still investigating. Also, the basket is incredibly difficult to clean. It' s not non- stick, so any amount of fried flour, etc will stick like hell on the basket and won' t come off even with scraping. I had it soaked in water for a day and then scrabbed it with my hands for like half hour, then used a toothbrush to clean it thouroughly. Hardly worth the trouble. And the basket may not even be rust- proof. Better save your money and buy a stainless steel unit, though I heard the stainless steel ones still have trouble with cleaning as the food does stick on it as well. Well, back to the store it goes. Wed Sep 16 2009I have 3 deep fryers at present...some collected over the years searching for (1) I would actually use without being deterred by cleanup and (2) that would actually produce a fried food where I could actually taste the food and NOT the oil it was cooked in. Enter the Delonghi Roto-Fryer. It uses very little oil...and it leaves very little oil on the food I fry in it. Clean up is simple given the built-in drain, included container in which to filter the oil after the frying is done (and the oil is cool). In all honesty, I have never tasted better deep fried food than what this machine produces, enough said. I will say one thing, use a high temperature oil that will not "burn" readily. Peanut oil is good for this though I use the cheaper canola oil. The reason this is an issue is the simple fact the heating elements are below the fry pan so there is no proverbial "cool zone". To help lessen this effect...clean it after each use and, again, use a high temp tolerance oil. I... Read more

Tue Sep 08 2009I loved this product at first. I only owned it a little over one year when it stopped heating. After some research I discovered that a "thermal safety switch" needed to be replaced. At first they advised that I had to take it to an authorized service center. There isn't one within hundreds of miles of where I live. I then asked them if they could just send me the part so that I could find someone to fix it. They flatly refused. This is the price of poor customer service I went from recommending Delonghi products to advising people to stay clear of that product brand.

Tue Aug 11 2009We owned a Delonghi fryer, and after 4 years I broke the handle doing something STUPID. So, we did a search of all the fryers out there and still bought a Delonghi. This ROTO-FRYER is so well thought out. The old one I hardly ever drained. This one is so easy that when we fry something that leaves batter behind, it's as easy as washing out a frying pan(let the oil cool first,) just wipe out with a paper towel after you drain the oil into the supplied tub and dump it right back in when you're finshed. So, it's no SPECIAL chore to clean out!! Just using less oil is such a plus(which at first I was skeptical,) that the food comes out almost oil-less. This tip helps also, 'Just pull up the handle, lock it in position to let the food set in the basket with the lid closed for a minute or two after cooking, the heat inside will drain more of the oil, and the food will be even crispier.' The air in the house is not affected by cooking in this fryer, because the filters work flawlessly(buy the ... Read more

Wed Aug 05 2009I was so impressed with how quickly the oil heated up and how evenly the onion strings cooked. It saves a lot of oil, too, and the clean up is a breeze. I had to try a couple of batches to get the timing correct... but after that it was perfect. Also nice is the no grease smell, and the oil saving filter and storage container that's included. I've had a Fry Daddy, but this seems to be much better at keeping the temperature consistent so the food is not brown outside and soggy inside. The clean up with the drainage tube is so much easier, too. The Delonghi may cost more but it's definitely worth it... plus you'll soon be even because you can reuse the grease longer.
