Every kid who picks up a guitar learns the opening riff to “Smoke on the Water.” But there’s a lot more to these hard-rocking Brits than that. One of the great guitar-rock bands of all time. They are the biggest influential band of hard rock in the world AND one of the cornerstones of Heavy Metal.

The Committee who decide to immortalize bands. Or not. They have painted themselves in a corner. Outside of for spite, I can't see how they ignore DP again next year.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is missing several bands that truly deserve the honor of "Hall of Fame" status. Deep Purple is the most deserving band to fall into this category. Please put Deep Purple in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!

British rock legends DEEP PURPLE were denied entry to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year — losing out to such artists as American pop singer-songwriter Randy Newman and R&B singer Donna Summer. The members of PURPLE, who will release a new album titled "Now What?!" on April 30 in North America via earMUSIC, say it is no big loss. The discography of Deep Purple, an English rock band, consists of some 20 studio albums, at least thirty-four live albums, twenty-seven compilation albums, as well as fifteen videos and numerous singles. Formed in 1968 by Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Rod Evans, Ritchie Blackmore, and Nick Simper, Deep Purple released their debut album, Shades of Deep Purple, in July of that year. They have undergone many changes of personnel over the years, and today Ian Paice is the only member from the original line-up still with the band. The other members currently are Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Don Airey.

The guys in Deep Purple are celebrating their 45th anniversary with another album and the latest round of tour dates. But if Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich had anything to say about it, they’d also have a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ulrich got into it with writer Peter Makowski, who interviewed him about his long-standing love of Purple and posted the results on Facebook (via Bravewords). It’s a fairly in-depth chat, in which Ulrich pays tribute to recently deceased former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord and weighs the relative merits of some of the band’s many lineup changes. Deep Purple, though in second place at one point in the fan voting, somehow failed to earn induction into the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans still have something to look forward to, however, as work on a long-awaited studio effort continues.
