Sun Jun 11 2006A fully realized piece of music rather than a "pop" song. The lyrics and orchestration represent the angst and isolation of the average individual succumbing to the cacophony of modern society . I always thought the lyric should have been Id love to turn you off rather than turn you on. With Lennon's facetious "enthusiasm" about seeing a war film and McCartney's chronicle of the proverbial "day in the life" of an everyman who escapes into a dream, it is both an existential fantasy and a brutal indictment of contemporary life. It is as relevant today as it was almost 40 years ago.

Thu Feb 23 2006The song where all of the grand aspirations of the Revolver, Sgt. Pepper Magical Mystery Tour era worked out perfectly. The orchestral score mixed with tape loops was brilliant. Both Lennon and McCartney contributed. The lyrics swung from the mundane ("woke up got out of bed") to the abstract ("now they know how many holes...") to topical ("he blew his mind out in a car") and psychadelic ("I'd love to turn you on"). And then there's that amazing crescendo. The Beatles may have written better pop songs , but "A Day in the Life" is the pinacle of their musical artistic ambitions.

Sun Aug 21 2005Very good, one of my favourites. It never fails to remind me of being 15 and bulletproof.

Tue May 24 2005Definitely one of my favorite Beatles tracks off of the immortal Sgt Pepper album, which incidently had no tracks ever released as singles...This was the 1st Beatles album that I ever purchased and was hooked. I own them all now...What did they say in Pulp Fiction, you're either an Elvis man, or a Beatles man...Guess which one I am?

Wed Apr 27 2005This was one of those songs where two seperate pieces of music were put together and a classic was born.

Fri Mar 11 2005a brilliantly psychedelic mis-mash of a song McCartney was working on and one Lennon was working on. shows just how divergent the two's songwriting styles were getting by 1967. but the song still works in verse and even up to it's wonderful orchestra crescendo. here's a trick: if you have a dog have them nearby when you play this song. at the end as the song begins to fade(let it fade completely for this to work) one of the Beatles blew a dog whistle.

Mon Dec 29 2003An incredible song. The transition between movements if you will, with the cacophony of sound separating the flowing first movement from the light, giddy second part, is brilliant.

Wed Oct 08 2003Absolutely Brilliant! This song is incredible. I can't say enough good things about it. The singing is just amazing. I love the words, the dramatic buildup, the way he sounds in the beginning and then towards the end. This is just a pure work of art. In fact, I'd consider it one of the top 5 Beatles songs and certainly one of the greatest songs ever written.

Sun Jun 22 2003The ultimate climax to one of the most influential albums ever. Lennon wrote the experiences he had in daily life with the beginning and final lyrical segments. McCartney had the underture with his account of waking up in the morning. The chaotic noise of the stringed instruments at the end leads up to a deafening crash that's vibration ends the song...or so one would think. I've yet to hear the very very end played on the radio, but if you actually own Sgt. Pepper, you know the very weird finale to the song (I never understood why that added that on there).
