Dateline NBC

I have seen it occasionally and enjoyed the reports they present. However if it on a topic I have no interest in, I switch channels.

Why don't these Dateline people just Molest these children themsleves and then get Matt Lauer to interview the beautiful pedophiles. What a disgrace last night. Just Awful. We need to protect our children from Dateline.

Someone said this is investigative reporting? OMFG! Emptyheads, poorly imitating emotion, even more poorly mimicking intelligence, reading lines concocted by biased infotainment producers, and someone out there is buying that this is reportage? OMFG -- the end is near, indeed. Wake up, numbskulls!

I believe that most Americans, millions of Americans, have completed stopped really listening to and/or watching the major news shows because of the irresponsible loss of objectivity. Most Americans do not trust a media form that thinks the masses need to be told how to think and very angry that the major news shows tried to dangerously influence OUR government. Two of the most dangerous human emotions are fear and hatethank God, the tactics of national media did not succeed in using these extremely negative human emotions to sway politics. The American people are getting too smart and not giving any trust to the national media anymoreThank God! All the major news shows are probably lying about the numbers watching to cover up the major loss of trust and respect for the medium.

They staged that stupid pickup fire.

Boring and laughably biased to the left. Inferior computer graphics and no real sense of humor.

Actually fair and balanced.

Dateline NBC is quite informative and interesting most times, and Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips anchor it well. There's some good investigative reporting here which always makes for a decent show.

When dateline started it was excellent, but just like the rest of the followers, hardly anything original on t. v. anymore, all dateline did was take cout t.v.'s idea after they saw how successful it is, reinforces my principal of not watching t.v. in general, mostly commercials anyway. used to get t.v. free while people trying to sell there product via paying for ad's on t.v. Now we pay to watch t.v., advertisers still pay, and very few minutes of actual program--in my opnion, and many people I know it is just another supposedly legal scam-- no wonder people get discusted with the television programing. I and many peopel refuse to buy anything that is advertised on t.v. I would hope the brain trust of t.v in general, will wake up some day.

ALWAYS watch Dateline! It is a never miss in this household. Interesting stories, fantastic interviews, just an all around great newsmagazine.

Re: Typic #1: Friday 5/30/03 Dateline story on the young black man accused of murder (Sterling was his first name). That young man got shafted by everyone. In the very beginning the defense attorney that did not enter the evidence to prove him innocent and the present prosecuter (whose father was the sheriff at the time of the murder) made a deal to release him if he would plead guilty to the crime. It seems that the police in that county/state did not follow simple police procedures in the case. Even when the private investigator and the two other attorneys found evidence that would prove he didn't commit the murders; the judge did not allow it to be presented even after the North Carolina Supreme court ruled otherwise. That man has suffered long enough for something he apparently did not do. Where was the NAACP and Jesse Jackson to help Sterling when he needed the help? I really enjoy dateline, it is informative, emotional and entertaining. Journalism at its' finest.

Virtually everything Dateline features is taken from court tv, what ever happened to originality and being the first to break the story (obviously something dateline knows nothing about). Everyone if youre looking for news that is original and thought provoking, I suggest you tune into Primetime Thursday on ABC Thurs night @ 10 pm

I watch Dateline regularly and enjoy it very much. There is an article in the Bakersfield Californian today about the murder of the Assistant D.A. It is most interesting and I believe would be noteworthy for your program. It has to do with the possible cover-ups by gay people in high places to protect their lifestyles.

The piece on movers last night was astounding! Something needs to be done about them. My husband and I moved last year but we did not have any trouble with our movers. I believe these are the reasons why we did not have problems - it was a local move, not long distance. We moved most of our belongings ourselves and used the movers only for our furniture. I hope we don't move again but if we do, I will remember this piece and have a gun ready for any mover that tries to pull a fast one on us.

The recent story on Benny Hinn Ministries creates nothing but bias media trying having nothing better to do than bash ministries that are helping people.

i love to watch the show but i usually see if there is a good story on it...if it's a topic that bores me then i skip it..

Really cool stories and I never get tired of Stone Phillips.

At last a show that tells the truth and complete reports on subjects of interest to all.

The piece with Suzanne Summers. She was having a regular check up. Because her sister had cancer they gave her a new ultrasound and found cancer. At the end of the piece it said, "if the cancer was not found in a year it might have been too late". That doesn't say much about her mammogram. If she wasn't an wealthy person or if she was a regular jane doe..there would have been no new ultrasound and the next year at her mammogram the news would have been CANCER and it is a late detection. I didn't find the news piece helpful. I feel like a regular mammogram isn't helping most women. Can you do a follow up and help with this issue.

Dateline NBC has changed so greatly over the years, and Jane Pauley and Stone Philips recieve full credit. They don't just sit around and talk about politics. No, they go out into the world and talk to these people, and prove that the stories are real. See, when you watch 60 minutes, they don't prove it to you, they just tell you this, saying this and that, but can you belive it?

I am writing to comment on your show from April 3, 2001 about the Mail Sexual Harassment that went on at Long Prairie Packing Co. I use to work there and frankly was very disapointed in the show. I believe (know) that there is much more to this story than what you report last night. It only aired for 13 minutes. You can't even begin to tell the story about that place in 13 minutes. I know this was taped over a year ago. I have been waiting ever since to see it aired. I had almost given up. I was hoping that the reason it had not aired was that you had someone in the plant undercover getting tape of the violating going on. Believe me it still goes on. I don't care what they say. And it wasn't just in the plant. I worked in the office and the environment was just as hostile there. I am hoping that you will do a follow up to this story and tell alot more of what really goes on there and the parts the Management played in ALL of it! KN

I watched your show last night on the Continental passenger that broke the gate agents neck. I am very disappointed at the jury's decision to acquit Mr Davis. I am a gate agent. The job becomes less tolerable all the time, but that is what it is, A JOB!!! We don't make the rules, overbook the flights or set the fares. We are just doing our job. Should we expect to have our necks broken for it? One of the Jurors said it should send us a message about how we treat our passengers. Just exactly what is it they think they have purchased when they buy an Airline ticket? Our souls, perhaps? How do they expect flights to go on time and everything run smoothly if we have to cater to each and every persons little whim. How will they continue to get their cheap fares if we had that kind of staffing?I can't imagine any other group of Customer relations employees that take more abuse than gate agents, for so little pay. Tuesday, April 3,2001 show. John Davies case. I was surprised that there was no mention of the child removed from theparent. To me that is all either the father or mother needed to take whatever action necessary to get to the child. The idea that the parents were not allowed to go down the ramp to get the child is to me out of the question. If it had been me there the case would have been the mother hurting the airline employee. The father would probably not have had a chance to get involved. I wonder if the airline employee has children- I suspect not. Barbara Brinkley/Texas

After watching tonight's issue on teenage girls being drugged with GHB in the nation's first death trial of the Date Drrug, I was mortified to see each child involved take the stand and apologize for poor judgement but never once were the parents asked to testify on their poor judgement. What mother allows her 14 year old daughter to go joy riding with two 16 and 17 year old boys and does not follow up when the child has not returned home at 3 in the morning. The children admitted asking for the liquor and pot. Where have the parents been all this time while their children were using and abusing. It took the death of one child and the near death of a second for anyone to take note of teen drug use??? How terrible!

After watching the Bill Moyers' Report on PBS and being aware that all issues were not covered, I would like to see Dateline do a segment on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity which is a disease caused by the body developing allergic like responses to chemicals we come in contact with everyday--like fragrance, deoterants, fabric softners, pesticides, fertilizers, food additives, copy machines, etc. 18 months ago, I was forced to give up my job as a teacher after 20 years of teaching because I began to react to textbooks, cleaners, perfumes, carpet, magic markers, gas heat, pesticides. I was diagnosed with MCS. I had never heard of this disease and was dumbfounded when I found there was no cure, only avoidance of all chemicals. I am now homebound because getting out is taking a chance on having a reaction. I viewed your March 20th report on the little one year old found frozen in the snow by her mother. The story was good, however when it was over I could not help but wonder why you did not cap on the part where the police took the mother to the station for a grueling four hours of interegation, when her child needed her at the hospital. This kind of crap goes on everyday in this country. People are assumed and treated guilty first and formost. Later if all checks out, then they are treated innocent. If the police thought the mother might of tried to harm her child, it was just their thought #1, #2 they could have assumed the best and spoke w/mom at the hospital inbetween mom being there for her child. I think you have the best show on tv, It gives people a chance to know whats going on in the world and it explains every little detail,unlike other shows,I hope it stays on tv for a long time.I also like how you involve your viewers in with the story and you can go on the computer and give comments!

Night before last, I witnessed one of the most shameful anti-American, anti-Constitutional programs I have witnessed in some time. Dateline NBC presented this disgraceful attempt to undermine one of America's most precious freedoms granted under the Second Amendment of our Constitution. Liberal NBC personality Maria Shriver hosted the Dateline "In the Line Of Fire" special. The program covered the deaths of 35 Americans killed by other people or themselves - using firearms. It was termed; " Gun violence against young people in America". I guess a middle-aged merchant shot by a thug in defense of his store didn't rate any importance to Shriver or NBC. This classic anti-American gun rights diatribe predictably avoided ANY responsibility of these tragedies - over half of them, cold-blooded murders - to the murderer himself. The Dateline program that aired March 4, 2001. Maria Schriver, commentator. The young man killed by the attempted robery that he was going to commit. You stated he was shot and killed by the store owner and that he was "victim number __". He was not a victim, he was a person out to take someone's life and money. The store worker should be praised for standing up against the robber. Maybe if more of the clerks and owners were armed, their would be less roberies. The real victims, innocent children shot were very sad. The person(s) responsible, the parents should be prosicuted, for child neglect and indangerment. I am writing in response to your program aired 3/2/01, in which you discuss the canine breed: Presa Canario. Until this awful incident occurred, I was unaware that this breed is available in the US. My family is from the Canary Islands, where this breed originates and we have always had them in our lives. Your piece should have included research on the origins of this breed, the country they originate from, and the experiences people in that country have lived with. This dog is known in the Canary Islands for its beauty, loyalty, good/playful nature and usefulness. We have grown up from infancy near these fabulous creatures & we have never had a vicious experience like the one you describe in your piece. On the other hand, your piece adequately touched on owner's responsibilities and influences. This is undoubtedly where the responsibilities for any dog's behavior belongs. Dateline took a giant step backwards on it's story regarding bulls (2-25-01)and that includes the pathetic Australian cowboy who commented that bulls in rodeos (they buck because of a rope tied around their genital area) like doing their job and going home at the end of the day--how incredibly absurd to project that an animal enjoys pain and suffering! as for the rest of the bull, it's a way of life in Spain and elsewhere to stab, torture, tease and frighten bulls, but basically if left alone they tend to be on the quiet side--what a revelation! it never ceases to amaze and anger me the incredible gall and liberties that humans assume over animals--and for what?...explotation, entertainment, food, and ego trips. As an owner and lover of the Old English Mastiff breed, I want to thank you for your coverage of the horrible killing in San Francisco of the young woman by the Presa Canario dog. Too many journalists have jumped the gun and named our beloved breed in this tragedy, without doing their research. The English Mastiff is a guardian, yes, but not an attack dog...there is a big difference. No breed should be singled out for blame when it is the owners who should be held responsible!

If anyone should be at fault it should be the management company who runs Vail. I skied Vail last week and was shocked by the number of skiers going too fast and/or skiing to close to me. As a matter of fact, I was skiing on the very same intermediate slope that your story's accident occurred on and was knocked down by an out of control skier coming from the expert part of the run. Not only did he knock me down, but he was so out of control he couldn't and didn't stop. Fortunately, I was not injured. My husband saw the collision and yelled to the skier to watch where he was going. How many deaths/accidents have to occur before Vail decides to do something about it? The accident in your story occured more than three years ago...and as of 5 days ago, similar situations are still occurring. If anyone's to blame it should be Vail management. The information you shared on the segment on the Monday night show about the dog attacks in SF was very informative. It did not single out a breed of dog which is very important. Because its not the breed of dog its the fact that people are the reason for the things that happen in these situations. I would like to send my condolences to the woman who lost her loved one. However, I cannot believe that someone wsa charged with a skiing crime!!!! I just watched you segment on Nathan Hall. I am amazed that the State of Colorado has decided to ruin this young mans life. Every piece of the prosecutions evidence, was taylor made to railroad this boy. I have been skiing for 28 years, and for the past 15 years I have been working in the ski business. There are two basic rules that EVERYONE involved in operating a ski srea agree upon. 1. Most people either ski or snowboard out of control, and 2. Everyone lies about his or her ability.I once had an out of control skiier, fly past the chairlift loading area,go completely off the run, and run into the snowmobile that I was sitting on.If I had been injured would she have been liable? Dear Dateline, I watched you segment about unsafe skiing and Nathan Hall. It was a fantastic segment. Nathan and other people who do not ski in control are a MAJOR risk to anybody and everybody on the slopes. The guilty verdict says that yes, human lives do mean something and your are responsible for your actions. I have had more than 6 incidents where I have seen an out of control/unsafe skier take out/crash into unsuspecting Novice, Intermediate and yes, Expert skiers. My girlfriend of 5 years was skiing on a blue run at a nice pace and an out of control snow boarder hit her from behind at about 25-30 miles per hour. He knocked her 5 feet in the air, he did not stop, he did not yell, he did not try and fall to prevent the collision. She luckly landed in soft snow and was not injured badly. What a tragic story Jan 30. Where's the justice in convicting Nathan of Criminal Negligent Homicide for an accident, very tragic but none the less an ACCIDENT? Where was the jury when the testimony was given? Did they listen to the evidence or did they want to send a message to all the reckless skiers on the slope. How were they allowed to hear a tape that should have been inadmissible? How did they weigh their decision so heavily on that tape? Nathan had a serious head injury, may have been given pain killers,did not have his rights read to him, was taped without his knowledge. Does it sound reasonable to convict a man that probably was not clearminded when he spoke and that the tape was not complete? Obviously a serious head injury was sustained and things get scrambled. I think Dateline NBC is a very informative and entertaining show. I look forward to each new topic that they come out with. My favorite topics are the one that show people over coming tough situations that happen in their lives.

The topic for tonight was great, but i was very disappointed in the outcome. I think the skier was very, very innocent. Weren't we all told as toddlers that "accidents happen"!!! Maybe the victim shouldn't have been at the top of the mountain, he was only a beginner. Every skier is suppose to be alert of whats around them at all times. VERY bad decision by the jury, it could have been one of them!

Dear Jane and Stone, After watching your report on 5MPH crash data this evening, I felt compelled to comment. Although your data was informative, it was prohibitively biased and unscientific. Yes, the test in question was a good indicator of minor auto body damage, however, you failed to educate the viewing audience that these same cars may exhibit the exact opposite results under conditions greater than 35MPH. Your report was misleading, focused solely on the low speed test, without any correlation or indication on higher speed crashes, which could involve signficant loss of life. It is information like this that can lead the average consumer to consider this a major buying factor when purchasing a car and can sway the auto manufacturer to abandon safety for the sake of a televised, insignificant 5MPH crash.
