Tue Mar 15 2011I have visited this Dr this year. He was a very rude old Dr (Dr. Penick). He doesn't have any idea about new eye treatments for keratoconus or other treatments. He does similar eye exam like other regular eye care do even the eye care facilities do them better. I found that he cares only about money by ripping off insurance companies. I wanted him to only subscribe glasses for me while instead he was pushing to subscribe for soft lenses since my insurance pays more than $500 for 6 pairs and that makes him a lot more money than just buying regular glasses through his shop. I don't really recommend this Dr for an eye exam or any other eye treatments. STAY AWAY FROM HIM! Will I return back: NOOOOOOOOOOO

Mon Sep 13 2010I went to Dr Penick because his office is close to my house and because my former optometrist doesn't take my new insurance plan. (Boo to my employer for leaving VSP!) Typical visit, nothing great, nothing wrong. They seemed to push contacts a lot even though I said that I rarely wear them and was really there just for sunglasses. I wish they had a greater selection but it's a pretty small office. I'm not thrilled with my glasses but that's my fault for not really taking my time selecting a good frame. Dr Penick wasn't Mr. Personality but he was fine. Didn't say anything to offend me, wasn't eating a granola bar as someone else mentioned, seemed to know what he was doing. The two guys out front were fine too. Again, just kind of standard stuff although I don't value my relationship with my optometrist like I do with my primary care physician, ob/gyn or dentist.

Mon Aug 02 2010I have been a patient of Dr. Penicks and Dallas Eye Associates for 20+ years. I know Dr. Penick's bedside manner is not that great but I felt I was getting a thorough eye exam. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years with this doctor and the Aspen Optic. I have always had a pleasant experience until last week. I will not be going back to this office and I will explain why. I decided that I wanted a new pair of glasses so I had Keith of Dallas Eye Associates help me with a new pair. They didn't have a sample in the design and color I wanted so I had to select from a book of colors and lenses. When the total of my glasses order was rung up minus my Insurance, my part was $496. The amount was charged to my creditt card and I left. On my ride home, I realized that this was way too much money to spend on one pair of glasses so I decided to call them the next morning and cancel the order. I spoke with Mike-who has always been a very pleasant person to work with ,he sai... Read more

Thu Jul 16 2009Okay I don't know what experience the people who rated him a "1" had, but they probably weren't the best patients. Yes, he's not a carebear out to fill the world with sunshine and rainbows. He's there to make your vision better and, in my experience, he has done so very well. Yes, you do get a piece of paper that talks about him included with the standard paperwork that all medical practitioners give you. I don't think you're actually expected to read it, but clearly he feels that he is very good at what he does. I would suggest slipping in a compliment- it'll loosen him up a bit. As far as the actual service rendered, I would put the value well above other doctors I've been to. This is for one reason- the follow-up appointment(s). You will pay for your initial appointment and then be scheduled for a follow-up appointment a week later. The follow-up will be very quick just to test the contacts he gave you the first time and be sure that your vision is correct with them, as well as to... Read more

Mon Apr 13 2009Horrible experience. I wish I had read the reviews before trying this Dr. Dr Pennick has horrible bedside manners, was incredibly rude and actually called me stupid. He got my prescription wrong and when I voiced my concern that I couldnt see they told me that I'd adjust and sent me home. I complained the next day and after the 'contact guy' rechecked he changed the prescription for BOTH eyes. I dont really want to go back for my final exam with the new contacts but I spent SOOO much money there and it's 'complimentary'. I do agree that the 'contact guy' - Mike is wonderful. I will not return after this visit and plan to ask for a prescription to fill these contacts elsewhere. I will not take no for an answer.

Thu Mar 19 2009I have had contacts for 15 years and never experienced anything like this. They tried to sell several of their products in what seemed like a five minute "informercial." It was very odd. Then I was told that he would only prescribe certain brands of contacts as they only worked with specific providers. When I asked if he could write the prescription for the lenses I've always used he told me flatly that he wouldn't do that. They also gave a "medical" exam that I didn't ask for (I only needed a presciption) and tried to bill my health insurance. When I objected the doctor had a sarcastic attitude. I would not recommend anyone visit this doctor.

Fri Aug 01 2008This was the worst experience I have ever had in any doctor's office. The "doctor" was eating a granola bar during my examination. (He was actually talking to me with his mouth full while he examined my eyes. I had to request that he wash his hands before applying eye drops.) The office was unsanitary and inefficient. DO NOT GO HERE.

Tue Sep 20 2005The "doctor" always has a bad attitude toward patients and his staff. Confusion is not unusual by the doctor and his continually changing staff. He even charges for the samples. If you've got insurance or money, you've got his attention. After over a year of "experimenting" still hasn't gotten presciption set. Eyes keep getting worse instead of better, and there's always another test that needs to be taken. Staff is always whispering behind the file folders. Overcharged and underserviced.
