Tue Feb 24 2009I don't like drinking milk, but it is quite nutritious, and I completely support the drinking of milk by those who do like it. On the other hand, cheese is great, and I'd definitely miss having a slice of cheese on my sandwich at lunch (with some ham of course, which belongs under a different item on this list). Other dairy items which I don't consume on a regular basis, but would definitely miss if they were no longer available include ice cream, cottage cheese, and sour cream. While PETA may want to end dairy production, I highly doubt there are really that many people (other than maybe the lactose intolerant) who would really accept living the rest of their lives without dairy products. There's what PETA wants, and then there is reality.

Sun Nov 23 2008While there are some abuses in the dairy industry, as there are in all farm applications, that is not endemic. And again, I pose the question of what happens to all these animals, and those in the meat production industry, should their use be banned. No one is going to feed these animals to produce nothing. Are they to be released, in their hundreds of millions to attempt foraging skills they don't have? I really wish that the extremists among the animal rights folks would take a moment to think through the ramifications of their ideas.

Wed Sep 17 2008Given the chance, cows nurture their young and form lifelong friendships with one another.

Thu Dec 27 2007The milk producing animals are the step parents of the human race. The symbiosis of man and dairy animal benefits both. Most dairy animals are treated humanely unlike the factory meat raising institutions. If you abuse a dairy animal, it generally won't produce.

Thu Dec 27 2007Oh the cows aren't harmed that much, they're cows, all they do is sit around doing nothing anyway, beside, I want my cheese, ice cream, butter, etc.

Sun Aug 28 2005As long as the cows are treated well and not shot full of antibiotics and hormones. Some dairies treat their cows very badly, and you are drinking pus from infected teats in their milk products.(no joke). That's one of the reasons I always pay a little extra for Organic Milk.

Sun Aug 28 2005I used to work at a dairy farm as a youngster and the milk cows there were treated like crappola. Dairy might be yummy (especially ice cream) but it IS bad for you and I've been slowly weening myself off of it, for health reasons. Cow milk is for baby cows, not adult humans, though I can't fault anyone for indulging in the many culinary wonders that dairy provides us, because I am just as guilty.

Thu Aug 25 2005The nutritionists in the UK and the US and the rest of Europe have determined through extensive tests that dairy foods can result in greaer levels of prostate cancer. (I will gladly supply full lists of tests conducted) Human beings cannot digest lactose in cow's milk comfortably after three years of age! There is such a high incidence of intestinal disease (any disease for that matter) relating to animal fats, that it should be obvious to most people that a diet of animal produce long term is not conducive to good levels of human health. The diet should involve a good mix of supportive elements, omega 3 and 6 fats, flaxseed for example, the right beans and pulses, soy isoflavins, etc. Doctors should get more training on the chemistry of the body before dishing out pills to counteract the west's appalling diet.

Thu Aug 25 2005I hate milk and most dairy products but I doubt, regardless of whatever PETA say's, it will give you prostate cancer (particularly if you're a woman...).
