Wed Nov 10 2010I don't know about this one, guys. What is he even saying? The guitar is devoid of palm-mute chugging and the drums are bloody awful. This probably would have been great 40 years ago. Heehee.

Wed Aug 18 2010They did some really good stuff.I'm not a huge fan,but they're a lot better than the top bands on this list at the moment.

Mon Mar 16 2009The best band in the world ever. Period. In all seriousness, I frequent a rock forum and we once had a discussion about bands that are universally liked. The only one we could all agree on was Creedence Clearwater Revival. Update: Three 'agree' votes? I'm proud of you, RateItAll!

Mon Mar 16 2009While I generally agree with the assessment of the esteemed musical observer ILikePie, I would doc them a 1/4 star for their limited range. Along with The Band and Gram Parsons, I think they are responsible for the Americana genre and all of its roots affiliated cousins especially Alt Country. Their sadly short tenure on the charts resulted in a remarkable half dozen albums in 3 or 4 years before they disintigrated in personnel/legal squabbles. One of a handful of groups that define the classic rock genre, their influence is still as powerful today as it was 5 years after they broke up. But the brightest stars burn briefest as a rule.

Sun Mar 15 2009Timeless, totally unique sound. There's a CCR song for every occasion and every emotion.

Wed Sep 03 2008CCR churned out a lot of hits. Fogerty's voice is very distinctive, his lyricism is clever, and the overall sound is distinctive too. It's too bad they did not continue on together.

Tue Aug 05 2008CCR had a very distinctive sound. Fogerty's swamp guitar, especially on "Born on the Bayou", being a major part of it. For awhile there, they were a veritable hit factory. "Fortunate Son" and Who'll Stop the Rain?" are my two favorite songs of theirs.

Sun Apr 06 2008Ah, the good old times. Who can forget the jewels of country-rock.

Mon Feb 04 2008CCR was my dad's favorite band and I thing it's a great example of what music was back then, all the bands played with so much feeling and they were just amazing. Something we haven't seen near enough today. I can't believe people traded rock n' roll for whatever crap they listen to now.

Fri Jul 20 2007I love CCR. Just a bunch of simple songs that anyone can play and sound really great. I guess I'm kinda young (19) to be listening to CCR, but I find myself singing "Lookin Out My Back Door" and "Cotton Fields" more than anything other songs I know.

Sat Apr 07 2007I simply love CCR, when I was little my mum had some records and tapes with CCR and I listened to them and was hooked. I still love their music, it's solid and it fits in no matter what era we're living in.

Sat Apr 07 2007I remember I was in a bar that was in an old mine in Colorado when I first heard "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" I just bought a best of Credence cd the other day and it is great. I had a pal who was in the 101st Airborne in 'Nam, and that group liked "Bad Moon Risin'."

Tue Aug 23 2005CCR was our high school band in the late 50s. Doug & Stu went to El Cerrito High, while John and Tommy went to St. Mary's in Berkeley. Where did they get that bayo influence 1941-1944 the East Bay Area quadrupled in size mainly due to the shipyards in Alameda, Richmond, and Ports in Oakland and SF. Many the new Californians were from the southern states and much of what we heard at friend houses and on their radios and record players had that southern influence. Even as the Blue Velvets in the 50s, while covering other records, they had that twangy thang goin on. Tommy was my age and we went to Harding Elementary and Portola Jr. High together before he went on the ST. MARYs. Johnny and the others were younger (my brother Bob's age) and they hung out alot. Bob wasn't the 5th Beatle, so to speak, but if he could have carried a tune or do that bayo-speak he might have been. Of course, all of us who knew them when think they were great and were saddened by their legal troubles, the b... Read more

Fri Aug 19 2005Second greatest band ever behind the Beatles.

Sat Jul 09 2005These guys were great. As a child, they were one of the first forms of music I was exposed to. I had no idea for the longest time that they were a San Francisco band, I'd always thought they were from Louisianna or the cajun panhandle of Florida. CCR Chronicles (greatest hits) is one of my favorite CD's, and Lodi is one of my favorite songs.

Fri Apr 29 2005CCR had some great songs. I remember listening to this band all the way back to high school. I especially like, BAd Moon Rising, Looking out my backdoor, and Midnight special.

Fri Jul 30 2004CCR had alot of songs that are worth remembering, Proud Mary, Down on the Corner and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.? Fogerty still can sing some songs to this day pretty well. I saw him at the Minnesota State Fair last weekend (July 23rd).
by mike_mason777
Wed Jul 28 2004They had a different original style. Thier southern style rock made the VERY popular. Jo Folgerty could jam!

Tue Feb 24 2004Put a bayou band in a California band's body and you get Creedence Clearwater Revival (ie CCR). Despite what could have been an eclectic fusion of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B;, and country, CCR became one history's definitive singles band. If you need proof of the strength and widespread popularity of CCR, just play a few of the more popular tracks from the band and (say) Led Zeppelin for your parents and grandparents and find out which are more recongnized (and no, this isn't a bad thing). What all this means is that almost all listeners will be more than adequately satisfied with any of the greatest hits packages from the band. (One item of interest is that CCR never had a #1 hit, and many consider the band the most successful artist without one.)
by deathrattle
Tue Jan 06 2004CCR were among the best southernesque style of rock. They were able to create solid rock songs of any length. They created so many hits and radio standards in the very few years the original lineup. Kudos goes to John Fogerty. He basically was CCR (main and the only songwriter for pratically almost every CCR tune). No JF, no CCR.

Sun Nov 09 2003One of those bands that my parents tortured me with so much as a kid, that I can't find a way to appreciate their music. I am sure they are fine musicians, but it just isn't my cup of tea...3 stars...

Tue Aug 12 2003I wasn't expecting much when I saw CCR live in 1969 -- maybe they were going to be like the Beach Boys. But they really and truly rocked in person. They were extremely together and in a great grove when they played.
by president_x_d
Tue Aug 12 2003Although CCR played alot of folk songs and their brand of rock had very little depth to it, I've always had a soft spot for John Fogerty's earth-shattering vocals. That boy can sing. CCR is instantly recognizable and that voice... wow.

Mon Jun 02 2003THEY WERE A GREAT BAND--VERY UNIQUE SOUND. 'BAD MOON RISING' MUST BE ONE OF THE MOST SUPERB SONGS EVER WRITTEN...AMAZING BAND.

Sat May 31 2003Talented, original, great band. Who can say that songs like "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," and "Green River" don't rock?

Thu Jan 02 2003I can see here and Ive always known CCR Fans are die hard and thats cool but; John Fogherty wrote about bayous and river rats, muddy water and mojo's to the point that you mighta thought he was a southern boy from Louisana or something. He's from CALIFORNIA and had never seen a marsh or bayou (He admits it in print). He simply developed a cute 3 chord formula that millions at the time loved. He did have a great band that he gave no credit to even now and just does not deserve it all himself. MY band covers a couple of his songs and they are always well recieved but this is just a formula that worked for a while. It doesnt hold up now and wont again. It was era music for the hippies who liked bluesy music and nothing more. The fact is that John Fogherty was too arrogant to keep a good thing going.

Tue Oct 22 2002True classic rock at its finest. Sure, the drum beats were simple, the chords were easy to figure out, but the lyrics were solid with a lot of catchy hooks and riffs (love that intro riff to "Up Around The Bend"). I'll have to echo on what MJSThirty6 had to say about John Fogerty. True, he was an integral part of the band but every member was vital. John needs to get out of that egotistical mode and realize he wouldn't have a name in rock and roll if it wasn't for CCR so if the surviving members want to tour and call it Creedence Clearwater Revisited, let them. John, don't let your sorry attitude make your younger brother roll in his grave.
