Mon Sep 14 2009CREAM IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AWESOME BAND DUDE !

Sun Nov 09 2008How many genres did the Cream influence? They had far more influence than would be expected from a group with so short a recording career. I like them, but I don't love them.

Fri Oct 24 2008Breakthrough music for its era, a English tarting up of the American blues idiom, an approach that was then ripped off by the more popular and enduring Led Zepplin. Jack Bruce was an adequate bass player and gifted singer. Ginger Baker was a better than average drummer. Eric Clapton was a master of taste and delicacy among guitarists of this time. The songs were generally well-written and mature. The sessions were well produced. They released two excellent albums during their brief tenure, "Disraeli Gears" and "Wheels of Fire." If you compare this band to the vast majority of the groups out there at that time, you'll see this music is pretty advanced. Some of the reviewers here who pan this group obviously don't get it, but, then again, they were probably weaned on the second-rate crap produced since 1985 that has passed for music. So, what to they know about anything? Anyone who thinks "Tales of Brave Ulysses" is a bad song obviously has his/her head firmly wedged up his/her butt.

Sat Aug 02 2008Their name was Cream because they were the best, or among the best, at their individual instruments. If they'd stayed together longer, I would give them 5 stars.

Mon Jun 16 2008Tales of Brave Ulyssees=one of the worst songs ever made by a "supergroup" (Badge is good though, most of the rest is pretty boring)

Fri Apr 20 2007Psychedelic-hippie, Marshall stack, improv-the-blues garbage written and performed by three English dopers trying to impress everyone with extended solos and flashy (for its time) musicianship. I don't like a single song this band ever did. Clapton is one of the most overrated guitarists of all time. This is his best stuff...get my drift? Thank god this era in music is over with. Get a haircut. Shave. Quit shooting smack and dropping acid. Quit writing stupid "trip" lyrics about mythological gods. Quit using every song as just another excuse for a ten minute solo. Oh yeah, Iron Butterfly sucked too!

Fri Apr 20 2007Perhaps the most extraordinarily over-rated classic rock band ever, even more so than the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zep. When I hear tracks like 'Tales of brave Ulysses' , 'Badge', 'Sunshine of your love' and 'I feel free' what strikes me is how utterly dull and pedestrian they are. Clapton's guitar playing is spectacularly ordinary and it beats me how the feck he got the 'Clapton is God ' tag. As for their musicianship, they were good enough for their time but there are plenty of drummers, guitarists and bassists around today who can blow them off the planet.

Tue Dec 19 2006Cream consisted of Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton (who was destined for even greater things), but some of Clapton's best work was with this trio. While the band was influential, in my opinion they didn't last long enough (1966-1969) to merit more than three stars when compared to the other artists on this list. Due to some excesses (read very long tracks), most fans will be happy with one good compilation release that includes the group's signature singles, namely "Strange Brew", "Badge", "White Room", "Sunshine Of Your Love", "Tales Of Brave Ulysses", and "I Feel Free".

Wed Apr 26 2006Would've loved to have seen these guys in concert, but I don't think taking a two year old to a rock show is a good idea.

Tue Feb 07 2006Went on too long sometimes, had a few bad tunes like everybody does, but at their best were one of the greatest of all rock bands- and as far as musicianship goes- their like, and the likes of Hendrix, Traffic, Zeppelin, etc. simply does not exist in the world today.

Fri Jan 06 2006Whats all the hype about these guys.

Mon Oct 03 2005The definition of "power trio". Clapton's sound was at its best when he played that fuzzy sounding Gibson SG. He later went on to play the thinner sounding Stratocasters and he's never been the same, for me.

Fri Sep 02 2005One of the most musically proficient bands ever!

Tue Mar 08 2005They are my all time favourite band! SWALBR is utter brilliance! I am so glad I have tickets to their reunion gig in may and am extatic!!

Sun Nov 14 2004Good power trio-but I've heard some just as good power trios in local bands. They mangled the blues by playing it way too fast.Politician and Strange Brew are great songs, though.

Tue Sep 16 2003Supergroup that pushed rock to new heights in the sixties. Add "Tales of Brave Ulysses" to your list of under-rated classics. Clapton surpassed his work with the Yardbirds, it's unfortunate that Blind Faith dropped the baton when Cream disssolved.

Wed Sep 03 2003They are very underrated. . .can you believe it was only 3 guys in that band? What musicians. . .

Tue Aug 12 2003I saw Cream a couple of times, in 1968 and again in 1969. They were great musicians, but their sound would often get very untogether live. At moments, they were my favorite rock group. Who could ignore Ginger Baker's drum solos?

Tue Jun 03 2003"White Room" is a great song, but that's about all they really have to offer.

Sat May 10 2003A truely outstanding and revolutionary band who knew when to call it a day.

Fri Nov 08 2002IMO, the best band Eric Clapton was in.Just listen to "White Room" to get a feel of how great these guys were.

Fri Oct 25 2002Great music from 3 guys that couldn't get along. They definitely would've been the supergroup if they would've surpassed only 2 years together. But look on the bright side, Zeppelin picked up where they left off.

Tue Aug 20 2002Jack Bruce was over shadow by a pretty face, and yet this was the very best of Eric career!

Wed Jun 19 2002Clapton, Baker and Bruce... if you were alive and kickin back then... you knew good music when you FELT it... and their bluesy rock you FELT.. in spades!! Clapton is an incredible gifted guitar player, Baker and Bruce also both knock my socks off... great tunes!

Fri Oct 19 2001Clapton on the guitar and Baker on the drums. They're a cool band. "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love" have great guitar solos.

Thu Oct 18 2001Displays quintessence of Clapton.

Sat Oct 13 2001The supertrio.... I love how they fused blues with rock. All three members of the band are incredible musicians. Baker, a great drummer, Clapton ,the guitar god and my favorite Jack Bruce. What a bass player and singer. Such power -truly are a "powertrio" !

Mon Apr 02 2001A powerful hard rock group of the 60's, and are usually regarded as the first supergroup. Ginger Baker made thunder, Bruce wrote songs, sang his heart out, and counteracted with Clapton's revolutionary guitar lines. Most of us know "Sunshine of your Love" and "White Room," but there are many underrated classic songs, such as "Those Were the Days," and "Deserted Cities of the Heart." It's worth to at least pick up a greatest hits.
by sonny_boy
Sun Apr 01 2001A powerhouse trio of the late 60's... Clapton,Bruce and Baker in their prime... performed alot of live, extended blues classics covers...wrote many legendary originals...listen closely to "TOAD" and hear Ginger Baker's drum solos using 2 bass drums while using only his feet.

Tue Mar 27 2001Eric Clapton is one of my all-time favorite musicians, and I like both Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker (who did some especially great work with Clapton and Winwood in Blind Faith). But Cream is my least favorite Clapton band. Some of their songs are undeniable classics that still sound amazing ("White Room"), but a lot of Cream's music doesn't hold up for me. I'd rather listen to John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, or Derek and the Dominos. Still, Cream stands out as a groundbreaking supergroup that deserves at least four stars.
