I've been with Covad for over 4 years. Recently, a consultant connecting using logmein complained that response time is too slow. I checked my connection speed and my downstream is only at 128K, and upstream is at 56K. I checked the offer from ATT to see if I can a faster service. I realized that I was paying Covad for 1.5MBps while I could get 6.0MBps from ATT for the same price. I cancelled my order and Covad said that I will still have to pay for 30 days after I cancel my service because I cancelled on the date of my billing cycle. Covad does not prorate. Hmm. I can't find anything on the contract about this. I completed my term so I do not fall under the early disconnection category. Anyway, Covad has reliable service. It is only down 1 time for a few hours. But it is slow now and then. Considering what I am paying for this service, it should be running fast all the time.

I had great service with Covad, never any problems and the rates are fair. only thing is that you need to have a phone line to use it... i need stand alone and switched to ATT. Which by the way was a big mistake because ATT is the biggest piece of crap for DSL ever.

cancelled service with covad on 4th of the month of feb. Had no signed contract since 2005. Was told will be billed for whole month even though I changed provider and will not be using covad anymore! Is this right or a rip-off? I would not recommend covad to my worst enemy! Find another provider! Read some of other reviews online and see! Even Bank of America blew me off and would not let me dispute the charge! Avoid BofA also!

Covad does not support Macs, and does not say so anywhere in the sign-up process. This meant that it took months for us to get it up and running ourselves, especially because we had to figure out what software we needed and find out where to get it - and how to get it onto the computer with no floppy drive or internet service. But after that, everything was fine... until we canceled our account. At the end of January, I canceled my DSL service with Covad. They pro-rated my January service -- since I canceled before the end of the billing month -- and credited the extra amount to my account. That was fine, except that I no longer had an account with them. They did not refund the money. Even worse, the only reason I found out about that money was that on February 8th, they billed me for another month of service. The only billing method Covad allows is automatic credit card deduction -- and my credit card is actually a check card -- so, around February 8th, Covad took $39.95 out o... Read more

I would rate my service with Covad as good. I have had the service for over one year. Most of the complaints being lodged on here are the fault of the customer, not Covad's. Covad DOES note your requests in their system especially if your service is down. My service has gone down many times over the past year. It's difficult to assess blame however, because the DSL service is a function of the phone line. No phone, no DSL. That's SBC's fault, not Covad's. Whenever my DSL has gone down, they open up a trouble ticket. This trouble ticket does not get closed until they have confirmation that the DSL service is up and running. This way they make sure everyone's DSL is working properly and won't stop working until it is fixed. :)

Dumped Earthlink (with Covad as my DCLEC) for raw Covad, and couldn't be happier. I'm not paying much more than I did for Earthlink's crappy service, but now my connection is solid, no multi-hour outages, no disconnects for the first five minutes of every hour (on the hour...), no slow throughput (even though it claims to be the same line speed), no buggy routers/PPoE servers going down for hours or days on end.... Can't begin to describe how much better Covad is than Earthlink was. Eight static IPs and solid as a rock.

Be sure to get everything in writing from Covad. Their customer service does not note your requests in their system and although you no longer use their service after requesting a cancellation they continue to bill you. I requested cancellation in July due to the fact that the only billing option they offer is credit card. I no longer have a credit card and wanted to find a different method. I recently received a collection request for $39.95 the cost of monthly service, dated July and August. I agreed assuming that the bill was for the month of cancellation. Since then I have been inundated with invoices now totalling $159! They are so trying to rip me off, because when I talk to customer service they say there is nothing they can do that they tried to contact me and I never responded (untrue) when I requested a supervisor they sent me to collections who said she couldn't do anything I had to go through customer service. WARNING TO COVAD USERS, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING OR PAY EXHORB... Read more

My experience with Covad is new. Actually, I don't have service with them yet. I placed an order, which went smoothly. I very much liked the ease of use of their order tracker. But the day after I placed my order, it was rejected because BellSouth refused to install the look because I am too far away from the CO (15, 248 ft.) for ADSL service. This is, of course, rediculous, as I already have ADSL service through DirectTV and it has worked perfectly for over a year. I contacted Covad, who told me that there was nothing they could do; if BellSouth wouldn't provision the line, they couldn't force them to. I called BellSouth, who readily agreed to provide me with ADLS services. But because I needed two static IP addresses, I would have to go with their business DLS service at a cost nearly three times what Covad wanted for 5 static IPs and more bandwidth. And one more little requirement: I'd have to switch my residential line to a business line. So the cost of DSL would be somew... Read more

I had a horrible time with the customer representatives. They are very very polite in NOT Resolving the problems. I have a TeleSurfer Service, when I called up the CustRep they told me that I can use the Dial up till I get the DSL, but I WAS never informed that they will RIP me off if I continue to use the dial up after I get the DSL(which I had to use due to some problems in my installation). THat is HOW they make money. They don't give complete information to the customer and CHEAT the cutomer by providing information which COVAD can later capitilize on. Infact if you go to the web site of COVAD and click on the telesurfer link, there is not information that they will charge for the dialup. ABSOLUTELY NO INFO(as of 2nd Jan 2003). And thats what the customers look at. The COVAD team needs to understand that they have a messed up Home page and is not in consistent with there SMART Manager( Dumb Manager). Also there CR don't give complete and correct info...and they best part is that... Read more

Let's all pray that Covad has the fundage to survive because they seem to be the only company with a sense of "DSL customer service". The big boys could learn a lot from these guys.

I had a rough installation process with Covad. The way it's set up, I was not allowed to contact Covad directly with the technical problems which I was having - I had to go through my ISP (Mindspring). This made for a frustrating middleman process in which Mindspring always thought that Covad was taking care of my problem and Covad always thought that Mindspring was taking care of my problem. The net result was that I went through a 2 week period without service, and with no one being able to explain to me why. Since it has been installed properly, it has worked fine. However I have not been blown away by the download speeds - I rarely get more than 150Kbps.
