Interesting--if hardly surprising--article that came out today about how Wall Street bankrolled the GOP takeover of the House: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40913123/ns/politics/ Gee, the super-rich were upset that Obama wanted to tax their profits. What a shocker.

Whatever actual positive concepts (abstract or otherwise) that could be gained from solid conservative principles are dead, buried, and worthy of derision and scorn domestic and abroad. There is nothing more laughable and historically ignorant than listening to an American attempting to link conservatism to the foundations of this society. . . . . .if you were 'conservative' at that time you would have held to the time-honored tradition of standing by the King and your bronze-aged religious ideals. Nonsense then - more so now. . .

Our bi-polar view of politics is indeed inherently destructive. The liberal versus conservative argument in this country seems to come down to which institution you decide to put your faith in: the private sector or the government. Too many put faith in both institutions, but neither should be trusted, at least until proven otherwise. The symbiotic relationship between corporate money and government has reached new and untold heights over the past few years. It is a corrupt dynamic that has caused enormous damage to the country. Want proof? Look no further than the Gulf... Both political perspectives, in practice, believe in the use of government power, but only to achieve their ends. When one party gets out of power, adherents become more libertarian and oppos... Read more

To AB’s point about trust of Government and the private sector/free market system. Yes both have proven to be untrustworthy, but it is not the free market system itself that is dishonest. Smart ambitious people act as the self correcting mechanism that keeps the system more honest. If it were full of crooks like many on the Left like to paint it, it would simply fall apart. I believe the opposite is true of government. If you’re dependent on government, it most likely indicates that you are not ambitious or smart; therefore you are more likely to get taken advantage of, dishonesty and corruption are allowed to grow unabated. As a person who believes in true individuality (freedom/free markets), I didn’t choose conservatism, or what Liberalism used to advocate decades ago; I was simply drawn to it.
