Fri May 21 2010Given the general untrustworthiness of such a vital piece of communications equipment, anyone who hasn't learned to save their work with regularity should usually be swearing at themselves than at the machine.

Thu Oct 15 2009Definitely don't like it when that happens - especially if it's at the point where you've just hit save and it turns out the computer locking up (Kernel panic anyone?) has just corrupted your file. What is just as bad is when you're connected to a clients VPN and the VPN continuously drops or if the client PC you're connected to runs so slow you can see it drawing the screen; so frustrating! Usually ends up with my head firmly planted on the table with a bang rather than a profanity though.

Thu Oct 15 2009Considering the amount of time and effort I lose when this happens, I think nothing of dropping an f-bomb under my breath when my computer lets me down.

Fri Oct 09 2009This is always guaranteed to turn the air around me deep blue.Actually, computers have substantially decreased my bad habit of smashing inanimate objects when badly frustrated.Lucky I wasn't exposed to PCs at puberty, when the hormones were in charge.I'd have probably thrown the monitor out the window, and been kicked out of my Dads house for good.

Fri Feb 06 2009Been there...done that. I've done this at home before, but the times that it has stuck out the most were at my University's computer lab. In order to maintain a fast speed for their system, they automatically reset all computers in their lab at 4 AM every morning. This information isn't exactly broadcast, and I definitely lost a lot of crucial information the first time I found myself in the computer lab at that time. I learned my lesson and did a good job of saving information during my occasional all-nighters the next four years. However, there was one time in grad school that I was writing a big paper the night before it was due, and I was completely in the zone. I hadn't saved the document on the University network since the beginning of the paper, and was completely unaware of the time when a box appeared on the computer that it would shut down in 1 minute. As the time ticked down I tried to save it on the network since it would be lost on the computer's hard drive when it reset. ... Read more

Wed Jan 07 2009Computers are quirky in that way, so it's only natural that people will express their frustration. Of course there are different methods of showing that emotion. And don't think for a minute that I'm exempt from reacting to such frustrations. I just try to refrain from using the expletives one would usually hear. Usually, it's along the lines of "darn" or "heck".

Wed Jan 07 2009If my computer locks up before I've had a chance to save my work, there will be a few choice words uttered.

Wed Jan 07 2009That is why you hit save every five minutes!

Mon May 01 2006It's actually kind of funny if you work in a department where everyone is on servers. When one of the servers goes down, you hear a collective groan and a few choice words from everyone on that server.

Wed Jun 01 2005Depends on the type of activity being conducted and the precise definition of key moment....

Mon Sep 27 2004The creativity of my profanity is generally in direct proportion to the amount of work lost, exponentially multiplied by the nearness of the deadline. When the neighbors begin to call, I know that the computer has had enough, learned his lesson and won't try that trick again.

Sun Sep 26 2004The worse time this can happen is when you're in the middle of saving a day's amount of work, and that's when it decides to freeze! You frantically reboot, log in, search for your file and open it... only to discover it hadn't saved. Keep the kids away, because I've got some pretty juicy words to spill out.

Mon Feb 09 2004The key to this topic CTVfan is KEY moment. This has happened to me once (frozen at a key moment). As I recall it was a school project and the last time I saved was near the beginning, eugh I was pissed.

Tue Oct 21 2003With Win XtraPoopy, this was to frequently! With Linux (Redhat9) this is not aften at all! The worst time is when I just wade a kick-butt wallpaper and a great mix of a sound file and XP refreshed itself after a stupid explorer error! well Linux dont have to depend on so much to run and you can gonfigure the crap out of it and make it load and have on your hard drive whatever you want!!!! Plus linux is soo much more stable!! So I suggest you ditch momopoly soft and get yourself a REAL OS that dont promise the moon and give you a burned out 40 watt light bulb!!! :-)

Mon Oct 20 2003Hey, this has happened to me alot, and I've never cursed. I mean, come on, three to four minutes and your back online or back to playing that cool Star Trek computer game or whatever! :)

Mon Oct 13 2003I've been trying to figure out a time when my computer would lock up that I've cursed. I've figured out two good instances. One was when I was stupid and didn't recently save one of my term papers and I lost about 5 pages of it when the computer froze. Second was when I was working on rendering a model and I didn't save the day's work when the computer just froze. I think in both instances, I cursed pretty bad, but the latter was worse because I was in class.

Fri Oct 10 2003I'm a pretty mild mannered guy. I try not to lose my temper too much, I'm not a big fan of foul language without cause. However, if I am at the computer (which I usually am), and a page locks, or I find myself unable to move the cursor, it will send me into a fit of horrific language that would most likely cause ClassicTVFan to keel over (if for some bizarre reason, he happened to be in the room). Nothing pushes me towards the brink of profanity-laced insanity like a locked up computer.
