I always had good memories of this area from when I was a kid. I had relatives living in Cocoa Beach and we used to go down and stay with them for a few weeks every summer. I was never one for swimming or lying on the beach, but in comparison to the rough and ice-cold waters of the NJ Shore, Cocoa Beach was a dream. The ocean was warm, calm, and lying on the beach, listening to the lullaby of the seagulls, could be very soothing. Fishing with my Dad was enjoyable, if not very productive, and there were several used paperback book stores that I haunted on a regular basis. I was used to NY/NJ pizza, but there was a restaurant located near the beach that made a unique pizza that for some reason I enjoyed eating. Cocoa Beach is a quiet, strip mally type town that, like the rest of the state, is blessed with some really nice beaches.  Everytime I go back to Florida, I'm struck by how beautiful the beaches are.  I really think they measure up well with some of the most beautiful in the world. Cocoa Beach is a nice long beach, with pretty big waves for Florida.  I was there for a wedding this weekend, and had fun getting knocked around by the surf.  It's a good spot for surfing.

Simply stated, there isn't much to do in this area. The beaches are very good for surfing; in fact, they're the best in the state. However, Melbourne is a just a boring little berg, nothing really compelling about it. The beaches itself are okay, definitely better than others throughout the state.
