Thu Aug 26 2010Grand... I read the reviews a bit and find that the something in what this guy teaches might have gotten me flipped off a few years ago. Twas a Sunday morning and somebody almost sideswipes me pulling out of a Calvary Chapel. I honk and the driver promptly flings the bad finger over their roof at me. I'd say he's doing something powerful if his flock is doing this sort of thing the second they pull out of the parking lot. Bang up job, dude.

Sat Aug 21 2010From Wikipedia: "In 1978, Chuck Smith wrote to his followers that he believed that "man has come to the end of his time."[2] Smith postulated, "If I understand scripture correctly... I believe that the generation of 1948 is the last generation.... I believe the Lord could come back for His Church any time before the Tribulation starts, which would mean any time before 1981." Chuck was many things, as far as I can tell, he really believed in this stuff. This makes him crazy and not so much an opportunist preying on idiot followers. RIP, Chuck.

Sat Aug 21 2010Pastor Greg Laurie , Pastor Raul Ries & and all of the Calvary Chapel Churches were birthed out of this one man's anointed and real Christian Ministry. He was the first to welcome long haired recovering, drug addict Hippies into the Fellowship in the sixties, when others Conservative Pastors snubbed them and wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. This man's life has been one of devotion to his wife and Jesus for many decades. They are now showing repeats of Greg Laurie's Harvest Crusade on TBN. Chuck & Calvary Chapel Churches are the protector of (biblical sound) accurate doctrine. They stands firm against false Christian Theology by (less harshly ) gracefully telling it like it is. He is as perfect as you can get to staying true to sound bible doctrine. Calvary Chapel's nationwide Churches started out very radicall (passionate) for Jesus. There are various Pentecostals that criticize Calvary Chapel Churches for being too toned down & dry during worship services. This Non-Denomi... Read more

Thu Mar 18 2010Chuck Smith, is a great Bible Teacher, Pastor and godly example for many years. He has never- ever disgraced the body of Christ with even a hint of scandal. Praise the Lord! Calvary Chapel's around the world should be highly applauded for nourishing the body of Christ with the Gospel. The best Teachers gifted by the Holy Spirit with the Gift of Teaching among us. They cherish the purity of the Word without agenda or twist and turns. We can be thankful for no weird or unsound doctrine. They also don't put guilt or pressure on you when it is time for money Collection. My only issue is they seem to disdain any sign of extravagant outward expression of worship. If you visit and worship loudly you may be asked to tone down or be viewed as fanatical and too over the top for them. Everyone knows that you better not rock the boat or the Ushers will tap you on the shoulder or throw a wet blanket on you to put out your fire. Best bet is to just be boring, bland and blend in like the rest. Th... Read more

Fri Feb 13 2009Calvary Chapel Churches in my opinion should be highly commended and applauded for not exploiting their flock for material gain or profit and for sticking to the word of God without compromise. However, (in my experiences) the ones my family & friends have visited have been lacking in passionate enthusiasm, esp. during the praise & worship services. I realize they are not a Pentecostal group however, to my surprise Chuck Smith has stated that he does believes in Spiritual gifts including tongues. Why then are most spiritual gifts, such as prayer for healing/deliverance at the altar, & prophecy, etc. (with the exception of teaching), not demonstrated in the Sunday services? Why the emotionless praise & worship services? The Bible is clear that God in His very nature has great passion & emotions for His people & creation. Is there anyone who wants a cold, dry, emotionless, non-expressive relationship with the love of their life? Uplifted hands with hearts ablaze is not wrong but more ... Read more

Tue Dec 30 2008Not much to say about Chuck Smith, but the idea that Godliness should be attributed to him or Calvary Chapel simply because they present a theology step by step, precept by precept from the Bible, is an error in judgment. Even the cults do the same. The cults are very capable of building a systematic theology just as are the believers. They accomplish this by using selective hermeneutics to weave a systematic framework that would not be cogent under a stricter hermeneutic. All denominations, true or cult, apply the same tool to present their distinctive theology. Therefore, whatever Chuck Smith and Calvary chapel are, they get no righteous points for teaching through the bible systematically.

Fri Jun 13 2008Like all churches that got big, Calvary started out great and well intended. Now, it seems, the congregation screwed things up by worshipping the pastors and the pastors ate it up. Look at "Lost Child" the book by Greg Laurie, there was even a "Lost child week" at the Wave station. What a crock! and "Greg Laurie Harvest Crusade"(nothing but an appeal to people's warm and fuzzy emotions) or the latest book by Pastor Chuck.... have you listened to the previews on 107.9 The Wave? - " The decade of the 60's..... One man was bringing out the truth to a lost generation...... CHUCK SMITH!!!!! TA-DAAAAAA!!!!!!" -I now attend a 50 congregant church where the pastor has written nothing and is a part-time janitor and has no home of his own and loves the homeless and the pro-life ministry. The Bible is taught without digging into people's pockets. Yes, Calvary has a very subtle, not as bad as the televangelists, way of digging into your pocket. Must admit they teach well but they will ... Read more

Tue Mar 04 2008How can one go wrong when one understands the Word of God. His Word is clear and Chuck Smith teaches the Word, the best he can. His teaching has help me and many more to come to the understanding that God loves me, God loves us and He wants the best for us and He has His Word for us to live by, so we can truly LIVE. Thank you,Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel. Oh and by the way, we worship GOD, we do not worship a man and this is what we learn when we read His Word and this is what is taught by Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel and I am sorry for those that believe that people worship Chuck Smith and other pastors within the belief that is in line with Calvary Chapel. Thank you to Dr. James MacDonald and Dave Rolph and so many, many more that truly teach the Word of God.

Fri Dec 28 2007I attended his church in the 1980s, when his underling pastors were preaching that the Soviet Union was about to attack Israel, as prophesized in the book of Revelation. I was studying politics at the time and continually heard downright false information about military and political issues. Needless to say, it did not come to pass as they predicted. But did they care? No, they moved on to other sensational, and just as bogus, versions of future events. Seemingly a nice man, which is why his followers worship HIM and give lip service to JESUS. Avoid at your peril.

Mon Aug 20 2007I don't find any Biblical justification for a man to stand up for 45 minutes and preach to a group believers. Paul did it after returning from a 3 years absence, but that is it, what I do find in the first century is shared giving (1Cor:14:26) of spiritual gifts not one professionally trained orator hogging the spotlight. What everyone knows as clergy actually comes from Rome, which comes from Babylon along with Sunday worship and all the holidays. American Christianity is mostly pagan from start to finnish, and traditions are proudly protected. I have yet to meet a "pastor" who could teach or a teacher who could pastor....something is really wrong. I believe many christians are going to be supprised that most of their clergy will not be in heaven. Smith went out of his way to take the control from the Holy Spirit and give it to the "pastors" which they take with glee. Most Calvary Chapel attendees I know from Philadelphia worship their pastor in a very idolitris way.

Fri Jun 22 2007The guy is a false prophet and false teacher, that teaches a false gospel. He also is an antichrist, replacing the true Jesus, as CS thinks he is Moses, and says so in his books.

Sat May 12 2007I like Chuck :)

Thu Apr 12 2007I don't dislike all of his theology but I'm working on it :) It's like this : I don't mind his preaching but don't care for his writings because his books go into more detail and are confusing. Can I get an Amen ?

Sun Mar 18 2007Smooth as silk and deceptive as a serpent. Those tufts of hair on his head look like horns! Jude 1:4 He is absolutly worshiped by his underling pastors who all sit at the seat of Moses. CS has invented an especially cruel church government called the seat of Moses, where the Pastor is supreame ruler over the sheep. That's known as Nicolatianism, which Jesuse hates. (Rev 2:6)

Wed Jan 10 2007Godly man, his theology isn't perfect, but at least he isn't prideful and acts like he has all the answers in the Bible. And at least he's not a false teacher like 95% of the preachers on television.

Wed Nov 16 2005Keeps it simple, Jesus Christ is the Answer. Pray for him...and may God continually bless the Calvary Ministries...they teach the bible line upon line, precept upon precept...here a little, there a little...!

Tue Oct 25 2005Chuck has written 2 books that clearly point to the heart God has given this man. Calvary Distinctives and Living Water. I recommend these books in terms of really understanding the Calvary mentality. And as far as the person that says all theism is false...I must say this. You are probably an evolutionist. Therefore: 1. You believe the world began as a dot the size of the "o" in dot, 2. From there you evolved into a rock, 3. And by someone's or something's grace you became primordial soup, 4. And then, you became some slimy bug that became an armpit sratchin monkey, 5. And now, you are you! The problem is determining which part of your ancestry went wrong: uncle soup or 10th cousin 20 times removed "monkey junior." It is this simple, either the bible is 100% correct or 100% incorrect. If you're confused or unsure, just keep your eyes on Israel.

Wed Sep 21 2005What constitutes a false teacher or a false prophet; is it not fudging with the truth in favor of your own pet doctrines (thinking gain is godliness)? It is the one who has been deceived that deceives others; and although they do not INTEND to deceive others, they cannot help but do otherwise. That Pastor Smith suffers this malady can be seen when he set dates for the Lord's return which didn't come to pass early in his career ( = false prophet ). But that is not the only witness against him (2 are required). 2. How about teaching that there is a 2nd baptism of the Holy Spirit in which the sign of tongues is received and is required for service when the Bible clearly states it is the least of the gifts. 3. Or teaching the theory that there is a rapture of the Church that requires a secret coming of the Lord before the clearly stated and visible 2nd coming of the Lord at the end of the tribulation which the scripture states is the 1st resurrection? How many lies must one tell befo... Read more

Tue Sep 06 2005The difference between Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapels is they TEACH instead of PREACH the word of the Lord. Now a days allot of self confessing Christians want a show or want something exciting and new.. We are soooo in the last days! I give Chuck Smith 5 stars for teaching the simple truths about Jesus the Lord of Lords and King of Kings! And teaching straight threw the Lords word.
by wilber
Mon Aug 15 2005Chuck's theology is in error; his teachings are not from an orthodox viewpoint. He over exaggerates the rapture to the detriment of other biblical interpretations of scripture . Teaching as fact without claiming them as his opinion.

Fri Jun 10 2005GOOD MAN OF GOD LOVES JESUS AND IS DOING ALL HE CAN TO SAVE SOULS. AS MENTOR OF GREG LAURIE A GOOD TEACHER. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE STUDENT IS THE BETTER OF THE 2.

Mon Apr 25 2005Chuck Smith teaches straight from the Bible. No candy coating. A lot of people don't like that...too bad.

Sat Jul 31 2004The fact Chuck Smith doesnt sugar-coat the truth about guys like Faith Healer Benny Hinn being phonies shows Chuck is truly doing God's work.

Fri Jul 23 2004He is an outstanding man of God, his messages are relevant and cogent. I give him an A+

Wed May 05 2004He seems to be a grounded pretty solidly. No way out wild Sci-fi ideas like Benny Hinn or some of the other As Seen on TV wack jobs. Pretty down to earth. He has a good speaking voice and a gift for keeping your attention. One of the few on this list I would give five stars.
