Do yourself a favour and watch the Alastair Sim film version. The book isn't worth the effort. I think Dickens is generally over-rated, although his best stuff is very good. This is a very long way from his best stuff.

Perhaps the most entertaining read in the Dickens' catalogue, and certainly the most non-typical. I actually like "A Christmas Carol", but consider most of the Dickens' material unreadable.

The guy goes from money-grubbing financier (who makes his accounting partner work on Christmas) to a loveable old chap who helps out the family of his accounting partner.I love Disney's spin on this classic story and I used to watch it every Christmas season.

It's a pretty good story, but I'll admit that I've only seen movie versions of it. I've never read the actual book.

I haven't read the novel, but like everyone else I've heard the story. It's a nice little story about being merry around Christmas time. But it's nothing that'll make someone older say, Wow, that was good!

If you've only seen the cheesy movies, trying reading the book. It's like entering a different world and will make you feel warm and Christmas-y...even if you are an anti-Dickens (or anti-Christmas) cynic. It's better than the movie versions--a lot of good stuff gets left out in the films. But the best film version is the old Alastair Simm rendition.

This book has always made me want to vomit. Dickens at his most mawkish and pukesome.

A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite books and movies. It's the tale of a mean old man who gets a glimpse into the future and gets to change his life. I never get tired of reading or watching it. It's both a must-read and must-see every Christmas.

Although recognized mostly as just a Christmas tale, Dickens portrays a real ability in this book. The characters and ghosts are ingenious really. They show a piece of human life that is too often overpassed. It transports us to England at that time and gives us a taste of how easy we have it this day in age.

How can I rate it anything but great? Not only is it a classic story with a good and true message, but it is very informative. I get a lot of insight into the customs and traditions that once surrounded Christmas.

I found the transition of Scrooge to be so inspirational and universally possible that I do not see it as a Christmas movie. Also, the concept of dreams/spirit visitings is very appealing. This is one of the few novels I've read purely for pleasure.

This is terrible. Boring plot and predictable characters doing things that are neither exciting or thought provoking. I think it is a very boring classic story of how evildoing will result in bad situations unless you change your ways. You'll defintely end up in hell.

The ultimate story of redemption. If Ebeneezer Scrooge can be loving and fun, then anyone can!

Although I only gave this book a three, it was still an okay book. It told the story of a rich man who had no love for anyone but himself and his money. In this story, the ghosts of Christmas come in to show him reality.

I thought that this book was extremely well written. You can see the pictures form in your mind from the words on the paper. This story helps the reader to see that living a cruel life won't bring you happiness. You must open yourself to the world around you to fully appreciate its many gifts.

A Christmas Carol is one of the best books ever written in my humble opinion.
