It has always been a mystery to me as to why people love this place so much. I believe that San Antonio is not the healthiest of places when it comes to food choice. This can be blamed on the population itself. The only comments that I ever hear about this place is that the burgers are hugh. Large portion size should not be the only thing that someone should look at when suggesting a place to eat. The burgers here are super greasy, and piled up high with bacon & cheese if you please. I have had way better burgers at Order Up which has a larger selection as to what can be added to the burger. Chris Madrids had me tasting a heart attack after 1/4 of the burger. It was gross and I couldn't think about eating another bite! My friend also ran over a nail in the so called "parking lot".

I'm not a big fan of burgers that are squished flat so all the juicyness is gone. Yes, these burgers are "super cheesy" but the meat at the core is weak. The load of cheese drowns out the flavor of the burger. This is a good burger, even better than average due to the fixings, but it's the meat that must make a burger great. Not S.A.'s best burger, but it's in the top five. (along with 5 guys, Bob's, Chester's and Biff Buzby's)

I have yet to figure out what is the big deal with Chris Madrids.... I wanted to figure it out for myself and sometimes the truth hurts. I have worked my way down through all their menu. I must tell you that their beef is the most un-appealing piece of meat that has ever been in my stomach. Very unsavory, not spiced very well and extremely greasy. Seriously this place makes my stomach hurt (their meat that is). The first time I though it was not a big deal, i didn't think that I was aching because I ate their burger, but after the 2nd time to feel the exact same way, coincidence? I think not. I learned my lesson the hard way and so now If i need to eat something from there, i settle for their chalupas (meatless that is) w/beans, lettuce, tomatoe, and cheese. Besides their ugly meat, everything else is alright. Its a nice place to gather around with your friends, they have a cute patio and you could enjoy a spurs game by the bar. But I still think it is ridiculous to think this place ... Read more

Chris Madrid's is the best burger in San Antonio! Neighborhood a bit run-down as well as the exterior of the restaurant, but once you get inside, it is nicer - and the food is awesome!!! Cheddar burger the best EVER!

After seeing some of the reviews on this place I figured I had to try it, but when I got there I was hesitant to go in because the building looked like it might fall in on itself and I was a bit concerned for my safety. I'm glad I got over those things, because inside it is much nicer, and the food was worth the travel. Good burgers and fries.

5 star ratings? Really? I guess this place revolves around recreating a Whataburger, and makes no effort at anything else on the menu. While my other half tried a burger, which arrived dripping in grease, I ordered the chalupas, which turned out to be nothing more than a public school cafeteria effort. But the fries were what disappointed me the most.... I mean, if you're going to tout yourself as a burger joint, then I say your de rigeur side item must be top notch, or at least cooked. Our "fresh cut fries" arrived not fully cooked, greasy and unsalted. Boo.

I really don't understand the popularity and appeal of this place. It is always crowded and busy - the parking is terrible. But mainly, their burgers are grotesquely huge, disgusting, greasy and the fries aren't allthat great either. Maybe it's because they are considered on the cheaper side, but seriously - why does anyone eat here?! I much prefer Bigz Burgers Joint on Loop 1604 and Bitters.

The hamburger is not very good. The bread falls apart when you pick it up. The meat is bigger than the bun.

I decided to go here finally after reading so much about it. We went on a Tuesday afternoon before a Spurs game, so the place was pretty much empty. The staff was extremely friendly, even the busboys and the cleaning lady. They were all willing to help me figure out where I needed to go to order, where to pick up my food, where the restrooms were. I ordered a tostada burger, my wife ordered the Jalape?o burger; and we both ordered some regular fries (which was quite a large portion, big enough for the two of us and our young daughter). I admit I was skeptical of eating a tostada burger, but it was actually really good. I tried putting some ketchup on it, and then some of the fresh salsa. I recommend using the fresh salsa. It sounds odd, but trust me, it?s better than ketchup (think about eating ketchup with beans, blah). The burger was bigger than the bun, it was drenched in cheese. I?m a healthy eater, but it was my monthly date to splurge. They toasted the buns quite nicel... Read more

They have great customer service, but the hamburgers are overrated. The hamburgers are too greasy and so are the fries. The burgers have a good taste, but its not worth the wait or drive. Whataburger or Burger King taste better and are way less greasy.

BEST BURGER, I got the toastada burger, It had a moat of gooey cheese surrounding the burger. You've seen the TACO BELL commercial where tha girl bites the taco and she has a trail of cheese leading from the taco to her mouth, It really is like that. One recommendation get your fries extra crisp otherwise they do tend to be kinda greasy.

Parents came to SA to visit (recent transplant) and at the suggestion of locals, friends and co-workers I took tehm there; HUGE mistake. The burgers were slopped on the bun, hanging halfway off, the cheese was half off the burger and the fries were complete grease sticks. I like greasy fries but these were disgusting. The burger was not bad; they (my parents were less impressed than me) were all below average. I've had the pleasure of very good burgers in Dallas, San Diego, and even L.A. I theorize that Madrids was at one time the best burger and exploded in popularity. At that point I believe the quality control disappreared. When I voiced my review to those that recommended Madrids, I also asked when the last time they had a burget there; all of them admitted it had been years since they ate a Madrid burger. Maybe I (3 including parents) had a bad lot or new cook/preparer but I don't recommend. Chester's is the best I've had thus far in S.A. Hope this helps!

This place has well seasoned hamburger patties and the fries are pretty good too. You can get your choice of a regular size burger or a "macho" size burger. In the past I've found the "macho" size to be hard to handle with your hands (it's sort of sloppy) so I always order the regular size. The one down side to this place is that it's, more often than not, very busy and if you're in a hurry this is not the place to go. Other than that if you get there at 11am you will not be disappointed.

Chris Madrid's is a novelty. It's a grungy looking, old, run-down dive located on one of the oldest streets in San Antonio (Blanco St.). When we first heard that we HAD to go and try Chris Madrid's tostada burger, we were excited at the thought of trying something new and unique. When I first turned onto Blanco St., we were almost certain that we were lost. Could this really be where the famous restaurant was located? Half of the road was torn up and I thought twice about parking my car because I was afraid I was going to get it stolen. Once inside though, it's pleasantly warm and it was filled with people even at 1:30pm. We had to stand in line for 15 minutes just to order and once we did, had to wait for another 15 minutes to get our order. We ordered a macho tostada burger to share between the two of us. We also got a large order of fries. People have raved about their seasoned french fries, but if anyone has ever had WingStop's fries, these are almost identical in size, ... Read more

I've been going to chrismadrids for a while and every time i go it seems that they forget something. Lately it seems that the food is loosing its taste and the cooks are not being careful cooking. Last week when I went my food did not taste like it normaly tasted and the person that sat next to me had a gum in her hamburger. Yeah this was very discusting and I don't think they should place it to be number 1 buggers in SA.

What's all the fuss about? I'd heard Chris Madrid's makes the best burgers in town so I was excited to try one. Sadly, it tasted just like a Whopper. Don't get me wrong - Whoppers are pretty good, but nothing to rave about and definitely not worth a 30 minute wait (20 minutes standing in line, 10 minutes to cook). Next time I want a burger, I'd sooner drive-thru a fast-food joint.

This is a don't miss place. Get the Cheddar Cheesy and fries. Yes, it is a place to drink some beer or have some Margaritas at. The Bar at this place came from the long lost and infamous Crystal Pistol bar and was given to Chris Madrid's because they were the one place worthy of carrying on the tradition. You won't find stuff like that at Red Robin!!!! The Crystal Pistol was, as a point of San Antonio History, a great bar on San Perdo that closed in the early eighties. The place was off limits to all Military Personnel in San Antonio. The legend evolved around there and $1.00 drinks on Thursday nights! Tonto looked over the bar in those days. True to the 8-Track Tape character of the place, it was closed before shaming itself with the lousy void of 80's music. The Pistol may seem to be gone, but it's spirit is alive, well and cared for at Chris Madrid's!!!!

This is truly the best burger joint I've ever been to. My boyfriend got the tostada burger and I got the cheeseburger. First of all...a burger that doesn't use American cheese? I'm already impressed! The servings were huge!!! But so darn good that we both finished it all! We shared an order of fries, but I probably could have eaten an order all by myself! The were nice and freshly cut and actually had a very unique flavor. The fresh salsa is also outstanding. Some of the reviews made me nervous about the location, but come on...it's just a different part of town. It's really a very relaxed and casual restaurant and though I'm not a local I felt very comfortable there. I can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu!

While staying on the Riverwalk, I had been informed that this was the place I had to try for a lunch burger. Too far to walk, they said, so I took a cab, and when the meter hit $20 and we still were not there, I worried. But for naught. The burger was without a doubt the best I've ever had, anywhere, anytime. This place may not be all you expect; its burger will certainly be difficult to surpass. All said and done, the lunch cost me a fine $50, but I'd do it again tomorrow. I'd try to pick a hotel closer, perhaps.

In Short This eclectic burger joint in an iffy neighborhood in Mid-town is the type of place where anyone can feel comfortable sipping margaritas, nursing a beer or munching on a burger. The menu is as varied as the clientele, with items like the tostada burger--a hamburger topped with refried beans, tortilla chips, onions and cheddar cheese. It can get crowded, so you might have to share a table with strangers.

Oh my gosh....this was the most incredible burger I've ever had (and I've had plenty). I found out about this place on Citysearch, but was leary after driving by...we went ahead an stopped, though, and the Tostada Burger was AWESOME. We were in town for 3 days, and we went back the second day for another Tostada Burger. Trust me, you'll never have a better burger, anywhere. If you order fries, be sure and get cheese on them.

I love these burgers, especially the chedder cheesy. One thing though - some reviewers made comments on the part of town this is in. It's not a ghetto for God's sake! The cars do get broken into at night occasionally, but don't worry about being there at night. There must be some real hot-house flowers on this sight.

Chris Madrid's is hands-down my favorite place to eat in this town of over a million people. Though the burgers cost a mere $5, I would prefer to eat here than to have a $50 steak for free. That's how good Chris Madrid's burgers are. The Tostada Burger is a local classic, and their fries are second to none. Excellent nachos and chalupas round out the menu. If this restaurant were not 30 miles away from me, I would eat there every day. Always crowded, Chris Madrid's is truly a spot for locals in-the-know. Dine inside or on the patio, San Antonio's weather usually permits both. If you like big, greasy burgers, Chris Madrid's is for you.

Chris Madrid's beats Chesters hands-down. At least it's juicy! I like the cheese burger. Still think Longhorn is better. Too many veggies on Chris Madrid's burgers, not enuf meat. Too much bun. But if you are in the location, and it's closer to you... go for this restaurant.
