Sat Apr 08 2006I have a 2000 Venture purchased new. I have maintained this vehicle religiously because the wife drives it. At 132000 miles the intake gaskets went. Dealer wanted $800.00 to fix. I repaired for $250.00 but took all weekend while down did a full tuneup. Dealer did say common problem caused by coolant. I have had the A/C fixed under warranty @22000 miles and paid $1000.00 out of pocket @ 130,000 miles for it after warranty expired. This time got the lifetime warranty from GM. Now at 5.5 years and 170,000 miles the transmission is starting to go. Looks like it will cost more to fix this than what the whole van is worth. I also have a 2001 Toyota camry. It has 165000 miles onit and only changed the oil and timing belt. My next vehicle will be a Toyota!!!!!

Sat Nov 19 2005I have a 1997 Chevy Venture LS, I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle...it has 121,000 and it was purchased as a 2nd vechicle for hauling things and long trips on the road. It's a no thrills type of minivan compared to the market it but it is easy to handle and it has ample room I waould say for the money it is worth it and the bad gas mileage issue, well all vehicles could be better but what do u exspect when u are hauling 7 people and that much vehicle...I also own 2003 Chevy Malibu LS...very nice car for a primary vehicle but not great on gas as well, maybe due to the V6 engine. I have had no problem with it and I dont see any coming.

Tue Nov 01 2005Have a 2000 Chevy Venture Warner Bros. limited Edition. Bought from Bob fisher Cheverolet in Reading PA area. 52,000 miles has either cracked head gasket or intake manifold gasket. Dealer and GM both tell me they know nothing of this problem, however finding out differently, being pretty common. Would not recommend buying GM product ever again! Told basically S.O.L. its on me. Wife drives it, not hard etc... Been loyal Chevy customer for 25 yrs. same for rest of my family. Not any more!Curently family has 2 Monte Carlos, Camaro, Venture. Had Trans problem with 2001 Monte Carlo with 41,000 GM/ Chevy would not fix. Disgrace for these products. No More Chevy/GM!

Tue Jun 15 2004I have a 2001 Montana (same equipment as the Venture). I like its ride, its handling (for a van) and its fuel economy is okay. But, I have gone through two sets of brake pads already at just 37,000 miles. Worst of all, I just had to get a head gasket fixed, and though GM picked up 40% of the cost, its just pathetic, in this day and age for that kind of manufacturing defect to ahhpen. I also understand that its common for the intake manifolds to develop a crack problem.

Mon Oct 06 2003Absolutely love it until 66,000 miles the transmission is starting to slip and needs to be replaced. Too new of a vehicle for problems like this! Nice and roomy! It has been very dependable up until now with the transmission problem!

Mon Mar 03 2003Nice try. Its a large roomy van with spacoius seating (Extended), but that dosent make up for the bad crash test results, bad gas mileage, and bad reliability. The new fold flat 3rd row has made it more appealing, but I'd still stay away. The regular version is just awful and a big waste of money.

Mon Jan 06 2003I absolutely love my Venture. I bought a used one, but it runs great and has low miles. I LIKE the interior, my dash is NOT the shinny Fischer Price model. My van has a smooth ride, practically glides down the street.I have been driving it for 5 months now, took it on some long trips, it gets great gas mileage. On one trip, I even stretched out across the seats and slept quite peacefully. Seats are easy to remove and replace. My van has a sunroof and a CD player, so those are pretty nice extras. My kids absolutly love the spaciousness of it, as it is a little bit longer than the average minivan so I have noticed. I would be lost w/out it, would definately buy it again.

Fri Jul 12 2002Interior is pretty good for a van, and it is definately versatile. However, almost every one I have heard about has needed a new transmission between 65-75.000 miles. That is way too soon for a well-maintained vehicle!!!!

Sat Mar 23 2002Not impressive. Coarse powertrain, a bouncy wavy ride (especially when it's not fully loaded with the family and groceries) and cheap, tacky interior plastics. Virtually unchanged since 1997. The hard shiny surfaces on the dash look awful. Who supplies GM's plastics? Fisher Price?

Sun Mar 11 2001It's a van handles crisply. Fast off the line. If you like to have fun driving but neeed a van for the cargo room. This is you van. Feels like 250 horsepower instead of the 195 it has. High lb/ft
