All of the staff at Central Texas Pain are so kind and compassionate - treating you like people - not numbers. Although the circumstances are not ideal the staff make it a pleasant experience.

Everyone make sure you can clearly understand your pain! They do NOT treat you like a looney-bug making up that you have pain. They treat you with respect and treat you and your real pain.

very smooth operations, everyone works well together. its like watching a well oiled steam engine, every part doing its job and working to a common goal, your pain management. what i dont understand is why there are not hundreds of favorable reviews.

The facility is very modern and up to date with a warm and welcoming staff that go out of their way to help you with all of your pain requirements. Dawn is an exceptional Nurse Practitioner that is very knowledgable in all areas not just pain. This is a very organized and well ran office. The staff is exceptional from the front desk to the clinical department. There just isn't time to list all of the accolades we have to say about everyone at Central Texas Pain Institute

After 10 years of "living life in bed "due to chronic pain, seeking the best doctors , enduring many surgeries, and finding no solutions, I finally found relief with Dr. Mahendru. I went from rolling into his office in my wheel chair ,originally pursuing the SCS ,and left that day feeling instant pain relief. For years I was told there was nothing that could be done about the pain in my sacrum region. I was unable to sit , walk or stand without severe pain. I went home to rest after my procedure and that evening as I began to transfer to my wheel chair realized I could bear weight with out buckling under from pain. I stood erect for the first time in years, and then took my first step ! I was so elated, I could hardly contain it. I was able to freely take another step with a normal gait, something that was impossible before the injection. My next visit to Dr. Mahendru's was without my wheelchair. He was very happy with the results and instead of proceeding with the s... Read more

I've been a patient of Central Texas Pain Institute for several years. I suffer from chronic pain within the neck/shoulders. Dr. Mahendru's techniques and methods have helped me maintain an active, normal and pain-free life. Dawn and Cindi take a special interest in their patients and I find them very professional and helpful.

I have the same concerns as many others on this forum as far as actual time spent with the doctor. However, the past three years I have dealt with intercostal neuralgia and the pain that it creates. If anyone knows of another doctor that knows how to treat this condition I would love to try them. I certainly would appreciate that information,

OK, SO I WAS CONCERNED AFTER READING THE BAD REVIEWS. I THOUGHT "WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MY SELF INTO, AGAIN "? I HAVE CERVICAL SPINAL STENOSIS AND HERNIATED DISCS. NOT ONLY HAVE I SUFFERED FOR 10 YEARS DUE TO BEING MIS-DIAGNOSED BUT MY NEUROLOGIST TOLD ME IT WOULD BE A WASTE OF TIME TO HAVE A MRI OF MY SPINE AFTER I TOLD HIM I HAD SEVERE NECK PAIN. SO I GO TO THE SPINE AND REHAB CENTER AND SEE THE PA. HE REFERS ME TO DR MAHENDRU. NOT ONLY DO THEY GET ME AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT AWAY , THEY ARE VERY KIND AND UNDERSTANDING AND ENCOURAGING . ONLY AFTER MAKING MY APPT DID I READ THE BAD REVIEWS. WOW WHAT A BUNCH OF GARBAGE. I GOT MY INJECTIONS THIS MORNING AND NO THEY ARE NOT MIRACLE WORKERS BUT ON A PAIN SCALE OF 1-10 I LEFT AT MAYBE A 2. YEA !!!!! WHAT EVERYONE WHO READS THIS NEEDS TO KNOW IS THAT I HAVE OTHER MAJOR MEDICAL PROBLEMS AND WAS SOOOOOO DESPERATE FOR PAIN RELIEF, NOT PRESCRIPTIONS. We all have unique expectations in what we value from medical professionals and their office staff members. I value efficiency, treatment efficacy, treating physician's attention to my needs/diagnosis, knowledgeable and positive office staff members, and honesty from a doctor. I got all of these from this clinic and Dr. Mahendru. Prior to my injections I've seen him reviewing my medical file and I'd bet good money he is a speed reader, as he's a smart guy, AND he sees the same diagnoses(plural)/same types of patients DAILY. It probably doesn't take long for him to determine what procedure may best benefit each individual patient. I know this from experience. I have been to him for over a year now and recently, I was scheduled for another injection;I've had 3 injections. He read my file, as usual. Then he SAT down with me and discussed my symptoms and what his recommendations for my pain management because he did not believe I would benefit from another injection. On my prior visits ... Wow, I read the reviews re: this dr and his staff! I must say that I'm appauld by what some of these patients have to say. I've been going to Dr. Mahendru's office for a little over 2 years now & I must say that I appreciate all that he has done. I admit that it is hard to get thru his upstairs office at times, but the staff has always been good to me. They've had a recent change in their facility. I had gotten an injection in his downstairs office; the receptionist, the nurses and dr.mahendru were terrific. I was well informed about what was going on with my pain and well attended to. He was running about 20-30 min behind, but i understand there are times that this is going to happen. Who knows what's going on with him & another patient for him to get behind like that. But once you're in, things go well and quickly. Some people complain because of money. Nothing in this world is free. I understand that the cost of healthcare is expensive. Don't think he doesn't want to help you if yo... Read more

It is true, Dr. Mahendru doesnt sugar-coat anything, but do you really want a dr that does? He gives it to you straight! I appreciate that very much. I have been going to his office for about 1.5 years and he has greatly helped me deal with the pain that I have. He has always been professional, a good listener, and always wants to help me. It is tough getting a hold of his office these days, but a busy dr is a good sign...I would not go to a dr that wasnt busy or has no patients. Also, you cannot blame a failed procedure or injection on the dr. Not all aches, pains, and syndromes can be "fixed" no matter who you go see. And can you blame him for wanting his $$ up front? Would you just lend a complete stanger your car? Well, he has to get paid for his services and equip. as well. If you have insurance, use it. They will work with you and Dr. Mahendru's staff has great payment plans with no interest fees. I highly recommend Dr. Mahendru! He doesnt tell you anything but the ... Read more

I have 2 herniated cervical disks. I was referred by my spine doc who said that Mahendru would have a "consultation appointment" with me first - He didn't. - He spoke to me for less than 30 seconds - said that the spine doc had instructed him -steroid injection in cervical spine. Did not ask me anything about my pain. The procedure was done with IV "sedatives" in 3 minutes. Afterwards, he stated with a disgusted tone, that was "the best that could be done, due to your squirming"- his words exactly, which felt offensive. After all, he's the anesthesiologist, he could have provided a way of making it less painful. The woman in the adjacent curtained area was also receiving a steroid injection in C7. She had lots of jewelry, expensive clothes, Blackberry and a tanned, suited husband who complained that she should have been brought in ahead of me. (Don't know why) Mahendru spent 15 minutes time with them, even looked at her MRI , and told the nurse to give her "narcotics" with her procedu... Read more

I found Dr. Mahendru to be very professional and considerate. He presented himself as intelligent and knowledgeable, and he answered all of my questions fully with genuine intrest. His staff was wonderful during my many procedures holding my hand throughout. The Dr. always cracked a joke to help ease my nerves. All the people who have complaints should maybe take some responsibility for the situation and the outcome of it. From my experience I find the majority of medical facility staff persons to be unreliable and disorganized, and I have come to expect it. The waiting room can get a bit crazy at times, but overall Dr. Mahendru had a good impression on me. I would definetly recommend seeing him

I have been taking my mother to Dr. Mahendru since June to try to find a solution to her pain problem. We have had to go through the proper processes of visiting with all specialists involved (neurologist, neurosurgeon, orthopedist, etc., even chiropractic and acupuncture) to be we are trying the right treatment choices. Cortisone shots don't work, and we are on the 3rd pain medication and it is starting to help. Don't get me wrong, she's not cured yet, and it has been a painful journey, but she is old and VERY medically complex and the options available are limited. They have been very thorough in all testing to be sure we are proceeding safely. All of Dr. Mahendrus staff members have been kind, informative, and professional. We have waited a few times, usually in the examining room (which can be chilly at times, bring a sweater!) while they checked on issues that arose during our examination or discussions, but I have spent far less time waiting in his office than I have in man... It is impossible to get thru to the staff at the Dr. M's. It is always taking you to a voice mail, and do they call back? Maybe the next day, so you sit in pain waiting on them to call you back. Where the hell is the staff? What are they doing? There are two of the receptionist and I watch them in the office and they just let the phone ring even when they don't have a customer standing in line. I am very disappointed. So sorry to have gone there......

I have been going to the doctor on and off for several years for various injections. While it is hard and frustrating at times to get his office to call back, Dr. Mahendru is always caring and considerate of me. His surgical staff is a delight and very professional. Dr. Mahendru never makes me feel like I am wasting his time - he always has time to listen to what I have to say. I appreciate him and would highly recommend him!

I have had chronic abdominal pain for 6-8 YEARS! 2 surgeries, 3 catscans, 6 ultrasounds, all the pain meds I could ever want...NO RELIEF! Until I met Dr.Mahendru and John. This team has helped me see life without pain. I am so very thankful for the nurse who holds my hand while getting shots to John listening to me cry, and Dr.M who talks to me like a person and not a patient. Even when I call on the phone I get great compassionate service. THANK YOU CENTRAL TEXAS PAIN INSTITUTE!!!

I could not disagree more with the review posted by ejt77 on 03/21/2006. Dr. Mahendru and his entire staff are courteous, compassionate, top-notch professionals. My family practice physician originally referred me to Dr. Mahendru two years ago for a chronic pain condition. Dr. Mahendru literally saved my life by insisting that I get a second opinion from an ENT surgeon, resulting in the diagnosis of a life-threatening Staphylococcus aureus-filled cyst in my right sinus. Since the surgical removal of the cyst, I have seen Dr. Mahendru or one of his assistants on a monthly basis for chronic pain related to previous surgeries. He is a bright, well-educated, caring professional, as are his employees.

Dr. Mahendru did a great job easing my back pain. However, the front desk and billing department did not ease my mind. I went on a payment plan and they sat on two of my payments for 2 months before cashing them. Another payment they never cashed and I am STILL waiting, 2 weeks later, for them to cash my final payment. I had the injections a year ago. So, unless you can fork up the bill all at once, DO NOT COME HERE! The staff is not friendly and extremely unorganized! Mahendru needs to find better office staff.

I've seen Dr. M on about 4 occasions. Each time I found him to be exceptionally personable and caring. He answered all my questions to my satisfaction. The best thing he did was to get me out of pain and quickly without prescription pain meds. I had back pain so severe that I had to be hospitalized on a morphine drip from time to time. Dr. Mahendru gave me epidural steroid injections that totally alleviated my pain anywhere from three months to one year. They are a good stop gap pain protocol until one can be assessed for surgery or physical therapy. He DID refer me for physical therapy, which did help, some, however, I eventually needed surgery. He has a very well-run office and I found the staff unusually courteous AND efficient.
