Wed Jun 03 2009I was looking to switch over from the food (Science Diet) that the shelter was feeding my newly-adopted dog. I had always fed my animals Wellness, but certain flavors gave him really bad runs, and the fish flavor made him throw up every time. In searching for a new organic/natural food, I came across this brand in Wegmans. It's important to me that the brand I buy doesn't support vivisection, but is also healthy and human grade - or very close to human grade. After doing a bit of research on the brand, I felt they were the kind of company I could feel good about supporting for their mission statement and dedication to quality. The ultimate test was seeing if it tasted good to my dog, though! My husband and I nibbled on the little dry pieces of fruit and veggies - we were surprised that we could still taste the actual flavor of what we were eating. The kibble didn't taste too great to us, of course, but my dog really loved it right away. My dog also likes getting pieces of kib... Read more

Sat Oct 25 2008Same issue here. Runny stool for my little kitty. Hasn't had any adverse effects to my roomate's larger cat, but then again, he doesn't like it very much.

Thu Jan 03 2008Detox reactions... yep those bad ingrediants are like drugs to the dog organs. Could be just a sign to keep feeding new food for a couple of weeks, as long as their eating & drinking & you see the reactions go from real bad(detox) to getting better to awesome. Yep when you switch from a food that has a ingrediant that doesnt work for your dog & you take that Bad ingrediant away by feeding a better dog food they Detox for up to 2 weeks :) My dog has gained weight since our move to the city, put him on the "weight control" & OMG the energy he has now. In just 4 days.. amazing I wish I could have a food that did that for me that fast i have only fed human grade high quality foods for years, So we didnt have a detox except the fact he has more energy now shows me something wasnt quite right with the other brands

Sat Dec 08 2007This food has an excellent ingredient label and the dogs like it. I think I am getting a good quality dog food for the price.

Sun May 06 2007We adopted our dog eight months ago and have tried 4 types of food, including Nutro Ultra, Natural Balance, Science Diet, and Castor and Pollux Ultramix. None of these foods agreed with him: he either got an upset stomach or refused to eat the food after a few weeks. He was also shedding excessively. We switched him to Castor and Pollux Organix about two months ago and we have had no problems since. He hardly ever gets an upset stomach now (he used to get that regularly before), his coat is nice and shiny and he continues to enjoy the food. We sometimes mix it with the canned Castor and Pollux Organix food which he goes crazy for.

Wed Mar 28 2007I was looking to switch to a organic brand so mixed this brand in small amounts with her existing brand and it made her sick two nights in a row. She never was lethargic or had really runny stools or anything. (she never kept it down in order to process it that far). She does have a history of a somewhat sensitive stomach, but the little amount I fed didn't work for her at least. It looks very pretty ;-) and the ingredients seem to be healthy so as long as your dog doesn't have sensitive stomach issues like mine it may be good. Unfortunately I can give no advice of how it works over the long term.

Thu Jan 18 2007We recently were told by our vet to put our one dog on a diet if we wanted him around awhile. I'm pretty sure weight management diets can't be as tasty as the regular brands so I tried a few samples and the one food he really went bananas over (it even has dried bananas in it!) was the Ultramix weight management food by Castor & Pollux over at Petco. It has no by products or any questionable dyes and the first ingredients listed on the bag are Chicken, turkey and chicken meal plus there are dried fruits included. After being on this food for 2 weeks our big guy has slimmed down already (I actually may increase his amount at each feeding now) Only draw back is; it is pricey. They have a regular , puppy and organic formula also.

Thu May 04 2006I own a pet supply store that only sells top quality foods such as Eagle Pack, Wellness, Nature's Varierty, Nutro Ultra and Castor & Pollux Utra Mix and Organix. In order for me to recommend any of these lines, I have to be able to relate my personal experience with these brands. I recently switched my Scotti and Boxer from Nutro Ultra Senior to Castor & Pollux Organix. They have been on it for two weeks now and at first I was a bit concerned. My Scotti is infamous for skin allergies and within the first day of eating the Castor & Pollux he was licking his front paws like crazy. It's been two weeks now and he has stopped the paw licking. Both dogs really like the kibble. I like the fact that it's 70% organic. I only feed the Scotti (30lbs) 1/4C twice a day and the Boxer 1/2C twice a day. I add to the kibble concentrated vitamin C powder, Dream Coat (from Halo, Purely for Pets), some brocolli, two vitamin pills each and a small amount of quality wet food like Eagle Pack or Nature's ...
