Sat Sep 05 2009I hate everything about this place.

Sun Dec 07 2008its nice that its right on campus, i didn't realize i visited other schools that so many places dont have the arena right on campus. And its huge and unique, so its kinda got a little charm that way. But the bench seating kinda sucks, your ass starts to hurt after a bit. And, the number one thing that sucks the most about it, the stagnant air feeling! Its soo hot in there, its terrible, especially when your in there before late november, its literally like being in a HUGE CLOSET. Like thats the feeling, the place is so huge, but its like being in a closet, no air flow, the air is sticky and gross in there, its like 90 degrees in there. It should be 70. NO air conditioning, and its called the Carrier dome!

Mon Sep 15 2008This place sucks for football. Like a sauna in there and the ad nauseam Guns n Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" psych music has to go. Acoustics are TERRIBLE!

Sun Apr 15 2007The loud house is simply the best. 40 thou a night..doesn't get any better. Ask Gtown!

Sun Mar 12 2006Hey, it's my school and SU basketball rocks. Hate concerts there, love the loud as all hell games!

Mon Jan 30 2006When the crowd is active it is very very loud. With 33000 fans however, you get 20000 that are there for an event or a nice time...not the rabid, nut-house fans. As a 13 year old, a memory of mine was being told to 'sit down' and then 'shhhhh' during a game against Villanova by older fans in front of me as I stood to cheer with other regular people during a time out. As much as the Dome is good for football, Syracuse Football has not been packaged well, and the good seats are compromised by the lack of a 'college' feel. (go to ND some time and sense the difference...heck go to a Colgate game.) It's about time for SU hoops to give itself more of a home-court advantage. Fans closer to the floor, acoustics for a truly loud loud venue. The Dome can be terribly loud (John Thompson and GTOWN visiting back in the day...or Pinone and the Wildcats) but it is a testament to the SU fans and SYracuse as a real hoops town how loud it gets. Were SU to have a facility of say 25000 for BBALL only... Read more

Sun Aug 28 2005I Went to all the BB and FB games last year. First the fact that the student section is back is great. We had the student section in football right near the sidline and it made for a ton of false-start penatlies for road teams. In Basketball the students were behind one of the hoops and Notre Dame which usually makes 90 percent free throws missed like 12 in a row for the 33,199 game. In bb its imtimidating for opposite teams because its so big. Its one of the best football stadiums period! All the seats are actually very close to the field and the roof caps the sound so that 38,000 sounds like 60,000 and 50,000 sounds like 90,000. Stats don't lie. SU went undefeated 19-0 at home in bb in 2003. The football team went 4-1 in 2004 with the only loss coming to Florida State by one play. Even when the fb team went 4-8 in 2002 they beat Virginia Tech in the dome. Its great to have just 1 stadium for both sports because fans become familiar with the stadium and it doubles the number of memori... Read more

Mon Mar 28 2005I lived in Syracuse when the Dome was built. They knocked down old Archbold Stadium and built this on the same site. At the time, the basketball team played in Manley Field House (cap: c9,200) and it was the loudest, nastiest gym I had ever been in and I'd been a few. The move to the dome was very questionable for a year or so. The crowd swelled to 9,500 and 10,000 but the din of the lights was loud enough to be audible throughout the first few games. Once the crowd size hit 15,000 you could see this was a permanent move. When 20,000 started showing up for the big games, it became a source of pride for the community, a relatively small city. The first time it was over 30,000 was unbelievable. When they split up the student section a few years ago, the last vestiges of the intimidating, nasty crowd were pretty much gone, but the networks like it better because they picked up fewer crowd obscenities. There aren't many venues where 35,000 people can watch a basketball game and se... Read more

Tue Feb 08 2005good conference, horrific arena. the cuse are big enough to build a seperate venue for each sport ya know. maybe then people wouldn't have to worry about injuries on the cement turf or fans that can't even see the basketball.
by bball_fan
Wed Feb 02 2005Would have had a 4, but it's also a football stadium, come on syracuse, cough up the money and build a Basketball ONLY stadium!

Sat Jan 29 2005I was at a game here a few years back...I was not all that impressed with the loadness...and SU won the game over a ranked, Big East team. In fact I was rather dissapointed as an opposing fan to get such a non-rude welcoming. Maybe they were off their game, but I have been to over 30 college bball venues and this wasn't even in the top 15 loadness nor was there much fan excitment. And they are to far away from the floor to be considered a real part of the game.

Thu Jan 20 2005Just happened across this website and thought I'd chime in on the subject as someone who went there for college. The dome in general is a great sporting venue but it does have its drawbacks. For football, it's great for how close the fans are and definitely for the noise that it generates. It would be better if it held more people though. For basketball it does lack the intimacy of other college hoop venues, but this doesn't make it a horrible place to watch a game. The university made things worse a few years ago when they stopped having a dedicated student section. That put crazed college kids next to grandpa the alumni in the stands and it lost some of the energy. Still, I've heard basketball games get louder than some football games in there. The dome has one thing over most of the college stadiums in this country. Since it is not owned by the university, only rented, they get around ncaa regulations and get to sell BEER during all sporting events there. That fact alone makes it a ... Read more

Mon Mar 22 2004This is an awful idea- a place that holds both football and basketball. It is such a waste of space to have the court at the end of the dome and cut off the other part for no use. This place should be for football only, and if this place is on campus, the Dome should not be sponsored by an air conditioning company in order to keep the college pride. How can you see from up in the cheap seats that they offer? Syracuse, please! Build a place for your home basketball team. The dome should be used for Nat'l Champinship purposes only or to make another attendance record beating game at some point (Kentucky v. Mich. State at Ford Field in Detroit in the 2003-04 season- 78.1K+). Why did the Spurs leave the huge Alamodome and go into the SBC Center? They were losing a lot of money there and many fans had a very hard time looking down from the fooball-like stadium sky seats. Carrier Dome is almost like the Alamodome- I just hope that the university finds a new place soon or else THEY will lose ... Read more

Fri Mar 12 2004You guys have got to be kidding me? This place sucks? They will lose money for keeping it? First off the dome offers great sightlines from any angle, even the behind the curain angles offer good views of the game. The school won't lose money for keeping it because they sell 24,000 tickets a game, so whoever said that was ridiculous. Its overal a great place to watch a game despite what cuse haters say.

Mon Feb 16 2004Carrier Dome is an ok football facility, but definitely terrible for basketball. Just look at the seating charts. I would feel so sorry for those people who actually pay for those upper level seats they have in the Carrier Dome. Probably won't see a thing without binoculars. Cannot believe they would actually have those seats available for basketball game. Must be really desperate to collection money to build an actual basketball arena

Mon Feb 09 2004Hike it out cardiac cuse! Yankees suck and so does Cuse, play in a real gym not some ritzy dome, real neat, history too...nope. Balloon babboon all the same, this place is horrible for a game, scratch it off the list now!!!!
by cardiaccusejhu_ghes
Fri Jan 23 2004The Carrier Dome is BY FAR the LOUDEST football and basketball stadium in college sports. forget freakin Cameron Indoor which holds 400 jumping idiots. 30,000 rockin fans at a basketball game? CMON now. only the LOUD HOUSE can bring that much to the table. And football games are soo much louder than any other collegiate stadium because the fans are right on top of the field and the Dome isn't too large soo all the noise is locked in. There is no other on campus facility in the entire country like the Carrer Dome( LOUD HOUSE ) 2003 champs
by jaykal
Fri Jan 23 2004ahhh the dome, home of the defending national champs (who STILL get no respect! whats up with that!) say what you want to say but, if you have never been there, GO THERE. they don't call it the LOUD house for nothin. make sure to get a dome-dog. theyre not just good, theyre good 4 ya!!
by m1970b60
Thu Jan 22 2004It is impressive for basketball because of its size and loud crowd. The place is a piece of crap for football. Football should never be played in a dome or on carpet. It is also too small for football. One would think that a place named the Carrier Dome would be air conditioned, but it is not!
by coleslough
Fri Dec 12 2003it holds alot of people who have to live in syracuse....so what?

Wed Jul 02 2003HOME OF THE NATIONAL CHAMPS! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE BANNER NEXT YEAR!! Incredible energy and LOUD LOUD LOUD!!! Not for the faint of heart.

Sat Apr 05 2003This dome is the best professional sports stadium you can find in colleges. In the late football season, those Southern boys will appreciate the inside temperature of the Dome while snowing outside.

Thu Jan 23 2003this place rocks..the best college arena...home of the orange and host to the ncaa elite 8. huge..loud..professional and exiting..average 24,000.00 average fans and leader in attendence in its first 10 years
by tbuckley15
Fri Nov 01 2002It's the LOUD house baby!
by sperryc
Sun Feb 24 2002It could be its ridiculous size that leaves it lacking the in-your-face college feel that you get when you watch a game at, say, Dupont Pavilion (in beautiful Villanova, PA).
