Decent player and a solid clutch hitter without a lot of power, but at the plate he looked like a crystal meth addict after five pots of coffee. I don't think I've ever seen a more nervous looking batter.

Nervous wreck at the plate, a good contact/ average hitter...he was always twitching and constantly fiddling with the bat. And I mean real nervous-he always seemed as if he was the sport's version of the narrator of Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" and a moment would come  in which he couldn't take it anymore and would start frantically digging up a body he buried under home plate. For history buffs and trivia nerds: Lansford is a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake- read into that what you will.
