Last night my car was broken into and the stereo thrashed. The robbers tried yanking my system out but was unsuccessful in actually stealing it but they did a number on all the wiring. I was going to attempt to fix it myself but chose to go with a professional so I would not damage the system more. I decided to get an estimate and see if there was anyway someone could hook it back up. I went to Car Toys to see what could be done... What a mistake!!! They were polite but had NO CLUE what they were doing. The technician took a look at my car for about ten minutes and told me the whole system was fried. He didn't look at any of my amps, subs, etc. Just told me the whole thing was dead and the only thing I could do was rip it all out and start over OR to run a troubleshoot and see if there was any way to repair it. I visited Car Toys and got a quote for an install of an Alpine CD deck for $160. When I returned 5 days later to get the work done the price jumped to $205! When i complained they lowered the price to $190 and said it was the best they could do since it needed a special harness, they would have to bypass the stock amp, blah blah blah, and the $160 quote must have been a mistake (yeah, right). I went to Mobile West at 2nd and NE Broadway and got a fine deck with install for $164, and the whole install took one hour, not the two hours Car Toys claimed they would need. Plus, nothing special was needed for the install and bypassing the amp was standard and no big deal. Car Toys is lame and probably a bit dishonest, too. They should change their name to CAR PLOYS!
