I hardly notice them. they go off so easily it is rare to look in the direction of where the alarm is coming from. too bad the intention to keep thieves from stealing or tampering with a car really does not get attention. they go off so easily. i do not think something is going on just keep on walking. what are they going to do, arrest someone for brushing against a car to get in their own car? or track someone down just because they happened to walk past the car when the alarm goes off? a thunderstorm can set them off. they can be loud a bit annoying but most people turn them off quickly. I usually shrug off a car alarm..

This is almost an everyday occurrence where I live, so it really doesn't bother me very much. But what can get irritating is when it goes on and on and on....

I live in a small town, downtown. Occassionally an alarm will go off.   I've thought of going to the car and kicking it until it shuts up.  I hate this.

Yeah, especially because no one pays a blind bit of notice to them.

I propose a new law regarding car alarms: if they are not shut off within 45 seconds of activation it becomes lawful for anyone within earshot to smash the offending vehicle to smithereens with any available large object.

Especially when the car owner decides to ignore it and allow it to go off for over an hour. Working at Wal-Mart last year; you have no idea how often this happened. People have cars alarms and yet they ignore them when they go off---I don't see the point if you're not going to check on your vehicle.

espaecially when people can't even hear them go off. there isn't no point in having one.

I have found that car alarms give a false sense of security to the car owner and a headache to those around him. Nothing aggrevates me more than to see a car alarm go on and on and on before the genius who owns the car finally decides to turn it off. Huh, I'm getting aggrevated just thing about it...

The only time a car alarm annoys me is when it keeps me awake at night....but not once would I get up and look to see if someone is trying to steal the car, unless it was mine (God forbid).

I feel suicidal when it rains violently, and all the cars parked outside go off at different times with their loud alarm.

Not so much car alarms, but people who turn them on when they are going into a supermarket or something. They certainly are not going to hear it if they go off, and most likely, no one outside is going to pay attention because the damned things go off for no reason whatsoever much of the time.

Annoying? I actually have to hold back laughs. It's funny strolling through the parking garage and some random alarm is going off.

The most annoying sound in modern life, in my opinion. Not so bad are the occasional alarms going off--it's the idiocy of having them honk, bleep, or boop every time you get in or out of the car. It's totally unnecessary noise pollution and people who design these deserve to be whipped.

I remember a somewhat recent commercial where a car alarm went off in a street at night, and suddenly a couch landed on it to silence it. That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

I must say that Enkidu hit this one on the nail. One of the biggest noise pollutions of our day. I don't even think most people even bother to look if one is going off. Who is to stop a thief if no one is concerned about that honk anymore? Very weak security...
