This is the best filter I have own in 39 years of aquarium "hobbying". The fresh water setup is a 110 gallons with 2 breeding pairs of HUGE angels (6 , 7 inches BIG) had 2 emperors 400 (which weren't enough) The water became CRISTAL clear in a matter of days (around 3), did add a package of the bio media to supplement the one that comes in the packg. and the filters (sponges) are rinsed in RO water every 2 weeks. (except the bio media) Setup was a breeze...read the instructions... for cleaning quick release latch is excellent, no priming after the first time!!! Overall is a 10 on my list...

The water in my aquarium has never been clearer. The filter was a breeze to assemble (though the printed instructions are bit vague in places). Had it up and running in no time. By the next morning there was a noticeable difference in water clarity. It is very quiet and I appreciate the priming feature. Excellent product, would recommend highly.

I agree that this filter system is a quality product. This was my first aquarium filter system and I did my homework to make sure I bought a problem free and effective system for my new red-earred slider and fish friends. I live in Hawaii close to sea-level, so my 100 gal Rubbermaid stock tank is my outside aquarium on blocks under a tree. It's necessary to follow all directions. One of the most important is to keep the filter at the correct level below the water level. I have my tank on 3 rows of cement blocks and still had to dig a hole where my XP3 sits inside a 10 gal bucket. I went overboard with too many fish, but the filter still had no problem keeping all critters healthy and the turtle spends most of his time chasing his girlfiend red koi and basking on an island made out of PVC and coated chicken wire. I only have to change the mechanical filters monthly, and only the micro (white) filters cannot be reused. To keep algae down I added a UV filter. I find that the nitr... Read more

Great cannister filter, easy set up, easy to clean, very little mess when disconnecting it to clean it. I have a 46 gallon fresh water tank and this filter keeps it clean without any problems. The hardest part about the set up was trying to get the hoses attached but once they were together, it was a snap to finish the set up.

Using on a 72 gallon bowfront. A couple notes from experiences: After cleaning filter, fill up with warm water, snap the top on and then connect the quick connect hose fitting. Allow time for water/air to bubble up and clear in tubes. Turn on. May need to turn off power and rebirp the quick disconnect to get a good flow started. Never had a priming problem doing this. Don't wash the ceramic bio disks vigourously. They hold and multiply the good bacteria you want to keep. Quick rinse/shake container and don't let them dry out. Keep the chlorine level low in cleaning water contacting the cermamic bio disks to avoid killing beneficial bacterial. Clean off the rubber sealing gasket and apply a lite film of petrolium jelly to the rubber. Change the impeller and stainless pin guide every year. Change the charcoal about once every 1-2 months. Between changes, a gentle flush of the bag is all that's needed. Very good filter.
