Loved camping and hiking. Still do, I would explore the woods looking for snakes and lizards and other 'creepy crawlies.' I remember Kayaking, canoeing and fishing as well and at night, we would sit by the Campfire and eat S'mores. I would love to do that more often with my boys. It is the cornerstone of any good childhood, I think.

My past experiences with camping were not all that great. During the summer of 1985, and 1986 i attended the Indian Mound Boy Scout Camp in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for one week in July. It was outdoor camping with canvas tents that had wood pallet floors, and 2 cots inside. Every summer i was there all it did was rain. The tent canvas had holes in them, and they leaked water like crazy. None of the other kids knew how to start a fire, so they sprayed Deep Woods Off mosquito repellant on pieces of wood to get a fire going which was unsuccessful. After those 2 summers there the smell/feeling of Deep Woods Off really scarred me, and i never used repellant for years after that. The last day of camp i was praying for a washing machine by the time i got home.

I always enjoyed going camping as a child. And I still like to go camping. I could just sit there all day and look at the lake and be satisfied.

I didn't go camping much as a kid, and honestly never saw the point of it. There were plenty of wilderness areas within a few minutes from home, and as a kid I went blackberry picking, mushroom hunting, squirrel hunting, and fishing. But my own bed was always withing reasonable distance, and saw no good reason for spending the night in a tent if  I didn't have to.

As a child I camped with my family and with the Boy Scouts. I loved being outdoors and exploring nature, and still do. This was definitely one of my favorite activities as a kid.

I wasn't camping, but I was moving a lot, between ages 13 to 15 I changed four countries, seven cities, and five schools. Talking about gypsy lifestyle...

Camping the way civilians do it is not hard enough for me.

GoneAway, you can add my voice to that as well. I love the outdoors, the clean fresh air, open spaces, wildlife, but I do not want to think about creepy crawlies getting into my tent at night or lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

I loved camping. Out in the middle of nowhere. Peace and quiet. Also, where I go camping, there is some great four-wheeling.

I will never forget my first camping trip-we were on the Adirondack trail in a nor'easter!!! Yes,we got wet,and there were 16 of us in a four man lean-to before it cleared up-but we still had a great time!(talk about bonding) To this day,I'll throw a tent and some provisions in a backpack and head for wilderness most any time I get the chance!

Thanks butler yes. This is one of my favorite things to do. Especially in High school, when my parents weren't around.

My parents were both big time campers when I was growing up. These were some of the best times in my memories. At different times we stayed at all the mountains in Southern California, including Yosemite National Park and some in New Mexico. My aunt's and uncle's on my mothers side of the family also enjoyed camping, so every year it was like a small family reunion. My mother was always the first one up in the morning cooking breakfast. I would chow down and then make the rounds with my cousins and eat breakfast with them. I don't think my aunt's minded one bit.

Some of my favorite childhood memories came from the many many camping trips I took with my parents. We always went several times every summer and we always went with several other families that we were close to; which was really fun. We would spend the week swimming, playing volleyball, football and board games. At night we would build a campfire and make pudgy pies an smores. My parents would literally spend weeks preparing for these trips and I can remember getting so excited when the school year ended and we had to start getting ready for the first camping trip of the summer. Good times that I will never forget.

Ah yes B, good times and great memories. We need to go at least a few times this summer! I have so many great memories of our family camping trips. First with that old yellow Coleman tent, and then later with that pop-up camper. Each of us kids would get to invite a friend, so that made it even more fun. Our parents were the masters of camping.
