Okay, first off, this is an actual review of Cameron and the game-day experience itself. I'm a Duke alum (class of 2009), and I'm not going to use this space to cram an opinion about Duke's team itself down your throat, like some of the ignorant Duke haters have done on this site. I'm also not going to sit here and try to make you think Duke basketball is awesome if you hate us. This is simply an honest review of Cameron. However, since so many of you seem to think we are incapable of cheering if not for the aid of some sort of script, I do address that after the review, so scroll down if you want to see that. Believe it or not, you have to have some degree of creativity to get into a school like Duke. A perfect SAT score won't cut it. The good: Truly an unparalleled environment. Duke has a rather stately campus, and Cameron reflects that. The facilities are dated, but not in a way that would make you think the place is old and dingy. The interior is elegant, stately, not gaudy. The... Read more

this is easily the loudest and most craziest stadium in the coutry espesially when it can only hold a little under 10,000

Granted when you're in this place for an ACC contest the atmosphere is great but rating this venue strictly on it's physical merits it's just an average arena at best. I mean come on, backboards suspended from the ceiling!?

Overrated high school caliber gymnasium.  They can't even put the announcers in a modernized booth.  Surprised they don't replace the floor more often with all of the flopping that goes on in there.Cameron had a much more intimidating environment in the 1970s under Bill Foster and before that with Vic Bubas.  Reason is the fans back then were innovative yet cruel and venomous.  Refer to former Duke president Terry Sanford's famous "Avuncular Letter."  Google it to read it.   Today's "Crazies" are like extras on the set of a "Friends" episode.   They are trendy and simply going through the motions of what they think a Crazy must do-  in other words jump up and down like an idiot and repeat the same old stupid cheers.  Besides, 90% of the game's cheers are scripted in advance and printed on sheets for the students to refer to.  Lame.Surprised the U.S. hasn't declared war on the Duke student section.  Opposing fans know what I mean.   You'd also think that with all of the towels they are ... For general admission tickets (Bleachers)even though your tickets may say east or west bleachers, it doesnt matter which side you set on (They dont check it and the ticket lady said it was our choice). Although the free student tickets sit across from the players and the regular fans sit on the same side as the teams. The students come in from the back side of the gym and the regular fans come in from the front. They open the doors 90 minutes before the game.We got there 2 1/2 hours ahead of time and we were glad we did. We were first in line and got to set 3 bleacher up from the bench. The 2 rows in front of us had reserved signs on them. The bleachers dont have a lot of leg room for tall people but then you realize that you literally stand the whole game. Even though ours was a blowout (Duke beat NC Central)120 to 58 the energy level is high the whole game. Hints we parked in the parking garage for [$] per hour and got to the campus at 3:00 (Game at 7:00) We then visited the Cathedral w... Read more

The best thing about Cameron is last year's loss to CAROLINA on JJ reDICKs Sr. night to a bunch of freshman, priceless.

I won't trash Cameron out of jealousy like some are here. As an outside observer, it is overrated. Joyce in ND has much better fans..but obviously a worse team to root for. Indiana fans are also much better..louder, smarter. Cameron is cool though. Intimate, and it gets loud and you can hear everything near the court. It is a testimony to Duke that they win so many games, not the so called Crazies, which by my observation having been there quite often, wouldn;t last two seconds trying to be heard during a UCONN-Syracuse game. Cameron is decent. Duke is great on the court.

Has anyone been to "la Bombonera" (Boca Juniors soccer stadium in Buenos Aires). It is the only other sport facility in the world that can be compared to Cameron in tradition and atmosphere (although in Argentina fans are a little more dangerous). Go JJ, Go Duke, lets add another championship this coming march.

What is ythis place, a high school arena? CIS is very crappy to say least. The fans are great and the history is even better but a power house basketball program like Duke needs something more than a practice facility.

The fans in cameron indoor are electrifying. They get the opposing teams so rattled. plus theres been a ton of history there and it has an eye-catching design to it. I personally would rate it #1 or at the most #4. Its way better than pennslvania-? i think so just think of my comment and hopefully it can help you.

The geeks that are the Crazies are the least imaginative fans in the nation. They need to be told what to cheer, when to cheer etc.

Really cramped and it is kind of an uncomfortable to watch a game there, but the tradition and atmosphere are outstanding, and I hate Duke basketball more than anyone.

Carolina's practice facility is bigger. ...........literally, no exaggeration. The atmosphere? Well, if you call rich kids desperate to be on tv atmosphere, then yes, the atmosphere is awesome. I'd say during a Dook home game, no more than 500 people in the crowd actually care about or know basketball. The rest are all about theatrics. That's why Carolina fans are in street clothes and sitting down...... ....they are focusing on and appreciating the game of basketball. That's why Dook fans always take 3 or 4 seconds to understand what the ref called. They are only paying attention to being crazy. And even if they weren't, they don't comprehend the refs' hand signals in the first place. They know basketball as much as I know golf. Ya'll watch that cheer sheet and the cameras..........................we'll watch the game. JESUS W CHRIST JR!, who rehearses before a ball game!? BETTER YET, WHO HAS A SCRIPT TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO CHEER FOR A BASKETBALL TEAM!? I truly believe that anybody who ... Read more

The atmosphere makes up for how old and small it is....Love ya Duke...but ya gotta get a new gym!!! There are more than 9,000 fans out there and we can't get a ticket!!! It's got a great atmosphere and the Crazies really keep everyone from noticing that the place needs to gbe renovated.......

OK iluvseanmay. I'm confused here. You called Duke a prissy rich boy school, but look. Even you are saying their stadium is crappy. If you're shool is nicer, why aren't you calling it a prissy rich school. You're sending two different messages, so get it straight please!!

Great game atmosphere - from the bouncing students to the suffocating noise. Too old and too small though(for my taste, at least). I have often wondered if they will ever consider a new facility that will allow more students and fans to enjoy games in person, like UNC eventually did down the road. But as I am orginally from Durham, and realize how special that program his become, I doubt that will ever happen. Probably a good thing, too :)

unbelievable place to watch a game. been there a number of times, and you can sense the excitement a good half mile away on your walk there. no, it doesn't have a large seating capacity and no, it doesn't have air conditioning. but it is a beautiful and historic building that just happens to be on fire inside with the greatest attitudes and the most excitement i've ever seen. plus, everybody can see the court. there is no nosebleed section. and i don't think anybody cares when it's 110 degrees in there because everybody there is having an amazing time while taking part in one of america's greatest traditions!

Been there once, it was AWESOME...The Cameron Crazies are just a-bunch of kids having fun...Last time I checked there was NOTHING wrong w/ that>When you hear the whole Duke student section yelling F*** U ____ then we'll talk about if the Cameron Crazies are classy or not> Untill then, they're just a-bunch of kids having fun, who may or may not understand basketball...WHO CARES?..they are supporting their team. >GO DUKE<

The best thing about it is that it's small. It keeps the real fans in and the passer by out. And it's cool that they give the students the court side seats other than the rich, know nothing half the time basketball fan, half the time golf fan, bastard who knows nothing about the team or the sport!

Dukie V-TOOL thinks it's the greatest, so I'll give it an OK. Coach K is afraid to play Oklahoma State in GIA, so I figure we have a more intimidating arena.
