Calista has gained a little weight-- is she eating more ferns ?

I will avoid comments e.g. she looks like Kermit's sister and has a name that sounds like some type of fungal infection and concentrate on her acting. As I can't get past the fact that Ally McBeal is one of the very worst programmes I've ever seen and not even remotely mildly amusing I have to mark her down as she was integral to its crapitude.

Calista and Ally both need high-calorie salad dressing on their tossed fern salads. These girls need meat on their bones !

Calista needs to eat more than ferns. She is still too bony.

Feed her ferns ! Feed her ferns ! Cure pteridophobia and anorexia simultaneously.

If Calista (as Ally McBeal) wolfed down more ferns-- instead of being scared of ferns-- maybe she wouldn't be so skinny. A cure for pteridophobia might then be a cure for anorexia.

Calista portrayed Ally as a Freudian spin-off. The character's neuroses even included pteridophobia, the fear of ferns experienced by both Freud and McBeal.

When she first appeared on the scene a number of years ago, I thought she was quite pretty. That was until the anorexia and/or bulimia scandal. I have sympathy for those who suffer from it (although George Carlin did a whole bit about how only in America could we have such a disease), but the picture of her that appeared in the media was chilling. She's supposed to be a pretty good actress, but I could only take Ally McBeal for about 5 or 10 minutes before I had to turn it off. Who in Hollywood determined that naval-gazing yuppies made for enthralling entertainment? Although, considering that this was such a ratings bonanza in its prime, maybe it says more about us than it does Hollywood.

she may or may not have talent. I would never want to ridicule someone with an eating disorder having one myself, but I do feel that there is a big divide between being naturally slight and having an unnaturally bony frame from starving yourself. From personal experience I do feel that many young girls develop anorexia and bulimia through the constant promotion of this body type in the media.

her acting is okay. I only saw a few episodes of Ally McBeal. Have not seen her in too much more. I hope that now the show is over she can have a chance to put on a few pounds. she is awful scary looking thin.

Calista Flockhart is awesome! She is great and a wonderful actress. People ought to leave her alone about her body. It is cruel the way people make comments about her surrounding her weight. It is not anorexia nervosa that she has to deal with; it is all the ignorant people who keep putting her down... to bring themselves up. Calista is definitley a wonderful person and actress. She gets my full support and admiration. I am sad her show is no longer on.

A good, solid, theatrically-trained actress--always nice to see a member of the New York end of the biz make it in the Hollywood game. The term "anorexic" gets thrown around a lot these days, I think irresponsibly. Some people are just naturally skinny. Our overfed culture exalts thinness, probably because it's a hard condition to attain given our national eating habits. (In cultures where food is scarcer and thinness is the norm, the ideals of beauty tend to be more fleshy.) I certainly wouldn't want to set Flockhart's twigginess up as a standard; but the trashing she's been getting for it looks suspiciously like misguided envy, or sour grapes: "She's thinner than I could ever be, so there must be something wrong with her."

i like women of all sizes and i think she is hot the way she is. but also think it is sad that many women starve themselves to look like that. being skinny does not make you attractive. beeing confident about who you are makes you attractive. she is a good actress and i hope to see more of her in the future.

Yes, she is too skinny, yes her Ally McBeal character was annoying as hell, but this MooCow can't help but find this actress to be rather appealing. She has a fresh face, pouty lips, and huge eyes. That she is too skinny may(or may not) come from an eating disorder, which is truely a sad thing - anyone else remember the 70's and Karen Carpenter?? I hope the rumors of her having vaginismus are incowrect, because that would really point to her having a screwed-up head, and there are enough crazy people in Hollywood these days.

She was FANTASTIC as Ally McBeal. I miss the first 2 years of that show. After that it went downhill as most shows do. But she was so good in that role: perky, neurotic, sort of smart but yet kinda of dumb. She should land on her feet someone where soon. I believe she kissed three, count em, THREE, different women on that show, on the lips. America, land of the free!!!

I know it's an easy cheap shot, but I'm sorry- I cannot get past this woman's physical appearance. Sure, she's a talented actress but she is a horrible role model in terms of image. It's people like her who have "inspired" 8-year-old girls to go on diets. I can't stand to look at her, with her skeleton-with-skin figure, sunken face and scrawny-ass neck. She needs to admit she is anorexic or bulimic then needs to be strapped to a board and force-fed McDonald's cheeseburgers, doughnuts and Twinkies for about two weeks. The sight of her bony ass sickens me to no end and overshadows any acting she does.

I am totally with Lisa980et, Miss emsy, and V seceret 5! You know what her weight has nothing to do with her acting ability and all of those who think she is anorexic.... Do you really think that what you are saying is helping If she was anorexic i think she would most likly be way to weak to act and too sick to get out of bed!! I know this because I battled it and let me tell you that just because someone is skinney doesnt mean they are anorexic or bulimic, and you want to know something.... anyone could be anorexic or bulimic they are diseases and you dont have to be skinney to have them Just think about it !!!!!

I think it is sick to ridicule someone whom you believe may have a life-threatening illness such as anorexia. This is an ILLNESS! Would you be saying the same thing about someone you know? Just because Calista is a celebrity do you think she doesn't have feelings? I hate the way people are judged by their weight. She should be recognised for her incredible acting talent, which is what got her where she is today, as well as her ability to shrug off biggets like you! Also, it is ignorant to assume something about a person that you do not know. So all of those Red Necks out there, stop winging about Calista and take a good look at yourself!!!

I think Calista is not only Beautiful, but the envy of all those people who are disrespecting her. She is Witty and funny in Ally McBeal and I would believe the network agrees as well. All those other women wish they could be so gorgeous. This women is the prettiest woman on television today. You go Calsita.

Not trying to be weird, but just a word to anyone who's rude about eating disorders. I have battled anorexia for almost a year now. My seventeen year old sister has battled it severely for almost two years. Now my ten year old sister is showing signs. My family is normal; we are all normal; my parents did an incredible job raising us. We're great kids in every other way. I don't know what happened. But I know that anorexia threatens to destroy our lives and our family. It hurts, deep, and it's not just about vanity; it goes down a lot deeper. So please realize as you comment and criticize that whether or not Calista is anorexic, the subject is not a joking matter. And anyone who is needs care and support anyway.

She may be pencil thin, but Calista Flockhart is all you hear about these days, with her hit TV series, Ally McBeal. She is moving on up with her career, and she seems like she is wanting to do some movies, but seems a bit nervous. Filmography inclues The Birdcage and A Mid-Summernight's Dream.

I can't stand her character Ally McBeal. Or the show for that matter. If she could keep her hands off her face or her fingers out of her mouth for five mintues it would be an improvement. Some vitamins may help that head of hair, or lack there of. Oh well, doesn't matter, I'll never watch the stupid show anyway.

She's a great actress and does not have anorexia. She was at the World Series in 1999, on TV, eating a hot dog. Anorexics don't eat ball park hot dogs!

I think most of the people who comment on her weight are exaggerating or just ignorant. Just because someone is skinny doesn't mean that that person is anorexic. Anyway it's amazing how many people write with such hate. Perhaps thay have been hurt or burned by an Ally? As for Calista Flockhart, the actress, she does fine work. Judging from her filmwork and televison work, I see that the idiosyncratic behavior on Ally McBeal is truly just acting. Ally McBeal is a character who is very human. We hate her and we love her. She can be annoying and she can be adorable. She is very much like each and every one of us. So, to the people who can't stand to watch: perhaps you can't stand yourself either.

Why does this girl's weight offend people? It doesn't have anything to do with her talent. Everything she acted in has been wonderful. Would you rather see her over 200lbs wearing mini skirts?

She HAS an eating disorder! She probably adopted because that was the only way for her to have a child.Whatever the reason(s)may be,I think it's scary this twit is raising a child at all.I used to enjoy watching Ally McBeal, but then I got totally annoyed with the Calista School of Acting:Say a few words, stick fingers in your mouth, let hair flop in front of face, stick fingers in mouth, blink, blink.blink, mumble, mumble, stick fist into mouth....must have taken Years to perfect this technique!Ever notice how screwed up the women who work with David Kelly are? One wonders...

She's an okay actress, even if her character on Ally McBeal is irritating and ditzy. I liked her better in Midsummer Night's Dream. So I'll give her a 3. But I do have to admit she looks ready to fall over and die from malnutrition. She doesn't need a celery stick. I think a Quarter Pounder with cheese, super-size fries, and one of those apple pies...mm'mm'good....

I wish stupid people would stop making stupid remarks about this girl's weight. Who the hell cares how thin she is. I think she looks great. If she looked like Rosie O Donnell, people would say. GO ON A DIET. Leave her alone, she's great, the show's great and her cast is great. Nuff said.
