Everything that's worth listening to again and again is on their greatest hits, 4 or 5 great tracks on this album but others aren't worth listening to again.

1999's Californication was the first Chili Peppers album I ever owned. It quickly became my favorite album of that time. I immediatly went out to discover the rest of their back catalogue. Is it their best? I don't know. It's certainly a classic. Then again, so are Freaky Styley (RUN OUT and buy it if you don't already own it, the most forgotten and therefore underrated Chili Peppers album), Mother's Milk, Blood Sugar (although the most frequently over-hyped, over-rated RHCP), and I have to say, the blistering 28-track Stadium Arcadium. Sentimentally, Californication would have to be my favorite, though. Songs like Easily, Get on Top, This Velvet Glove, Parallel Universe, Right on Time, and Purple Stain, were not singles off of this album, but only God knows why. They are hard-rock treasures, and if all you've heard from this album is the singles (ie:scar tissue), you are committing a musical felony against yourself.

the place where I work has this album on an ipod that plays continuously - along with about 250 other songs. Whenever anything from this lp comes on, I want to kill myself. This is lazy music people! crapola.

I remember buying this album way back in 1999, expecting just an average CD with some typical Chili pepper funky beats. Instead I was totally shocked at the strength of not only the music, but the lyrics as well. The best song on the album, and possibly the best song the band ever made, Otherside, to me is the stand out track. With lyrics dealing with the almighty struggle against drugs and alcohol, it was one of the greatest songs of the 90's, even though it was played on the radio in 2000. Other stand out tracks include Savior, a song about spiritual issues, and the funky and positive Around the World. Regardless, I loved this entire album, a work of art the band could never top. It is way better than the somewhat disappointing "By the Way."

Sell-out, mass-produced rock from the Peppers- who have given much better efforts. I cringed when I heard it on the radio.

This album is a ton better than "One Hot Minute", but not as good as "Blood Sugar.." or "Mother's Milk"

I absolutely love the Chili Peppers and find this to be one of their best albums, besides Blood Sugar Sex Magic. The album is loaded with fun and upbeat songs and I thoroughly enjoy hearing John doing more back up singing. I rate this a 10 for sure!!!

This is the best album the chili peppers have done. The songs are sublime and amazing. They are the best band ever. This album shows that they can do rock anthyms as well as melodious guitar riffs. This album is the best you'll ever buy, though it is a bit expensive! 'Scar Tissue' is the best song ever!

People need to stop being stupid and realize that they're not gonna be cool even if they come on and bash any band that doesn't scream and act like dumbasses. The Chili peppers just play good music, all their songs are different, and their great musicians.

I think that this album contains many songs that stray away from their usually upbeat tones, they went for soemthing darker, deeper, melodic and haunting, at least out of the songs I've heard from it. Anthony Kiedis's voice melts into the melodies and mixes well with the music. Some have used the term "mature" to dsecribe this venture, but it's not quite the word I'm looking for, but close. I love the Chili Pepper's signature upbeat feel, but if you want to hear something a little different from the Chili Peppers, this is definately worth a try.

They need to either quit or go back to the uplift mofo party plan days. Because they are getting worse every CD.

They have come a long way and I was very pleased to see John Fruscante (spelling?) back in the group after a six-year hiatus. It's almost as if they were saying, "hey John is back in the group, let's make him feel at home with mature and meaningful sounds." After hearing this album, you'd be stunned to know that this was the same group that donned nothing but socks and had an album (Freaky Styley) that contained raw funky tunes that seemed to be the signature of Santa Monica scene on a Saturday night.

Anthony Kiedis explores the strange coexistence of Hollywood and the general population without being overdramatic.

This album sucks. The CHili Peppers haven't had a cool idea since BlooSugarSexMagic, and now they are just putting Under the Bridge riffs in all the albums to try to stay alive. They need to retire quickly.

This cd has a nice range of songs with different sounds and different themes. The lyrics are masterful and the music just melts into the words. I would tell most everyone I know that this cd is worth the few bucks.

These guys lost their "balls" and are now relying on their "Under the Bridge" recipe to keep making records. Old, rehashed and out of ideas. Flea should quit and play with Janes Addiction full time.

The Chillis will be Chillis. Instrumentaly, they are the masters of funk/rock/rage fusion. Like Sex Sugar Blood Magic, this album will be addictive after a while. The only thing i would say is, get rap lessons off of Eminem or someone cos the lyrics suck at times. Still like it though...

I agree with the comments that Californication is showing that RHCP have grown up since they broke into the industry. I think its great that they are coming up with new material instead of trying to do BSSM again. The lyrics, harmonies, guitar and singing are fantastic! Whenever me and my fiance go to our local, at least one song is played and the whole pub is singing. Wonderful album!

I love this CD. It has some really great songs on it and you never get tired of hearing them. The Chili Peppers have stood the test of time and proven they're still just as great as always.

Now this is rock. Great melody, great lyrics, a variety of styles all on one record. Hard and soft, funny and emotional, these guys have been doing it since they started.

Red Hot Chili Pepper's songs are very extreme. Sometimes they'll sing all fast and cuss, but then at times they'll be more mellow. That's why this is their best CD, because they have more mellow songs.

The only album I gave 5 stars in the last year was David Gray’s “White Ladder”. But this one is pretty close. It's no 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' by any means , but I still enjoy it.

This CD was really good. The first seven songs are really catchy and just good music. What's keeping it from a five are the rest of the songs on the album which just can't compare to the first set.

I think this is the best Red Hot Chili Peppers album. This one has at least three number one hits and the rest of the songs are good. Scar Tissue, Other Side and Californication are the best songs since Under the Bridge.

Red Hot Chili Peppers have done it again. Their edgy lyrics celebrate rock, pornography, sex, and life in California. Otherside provides a melodic trance about trippin' on acid. Californication celebrates modern life in California. If you thought Blood Sex Sugar Majik was good, you'll love Californication.

The RHCP triumph once again over personal adversity and challenge, and come out with a mature, positive, and most of all, uniquely funky view on life. This album couldn't find a better way to bring back prodigal guitarist John Frusciante and transmit the pure and awesome vibe the Peppers have with him. Songs like "Around the World" and "Get On Top" have the Peppers at their funk rock best, with Flea playing the bass with a power only Flea can. Also, "This Velvet Glove" and "Savior" show the more serious, introspective side of the Peppers, while showcasing the beauty of Frusciante's playing. Awesome!

This is a great album and an album that proves that the band can still make good music after their disappointing "One Hot Minute" album. The return of guitarist John Fusciute is evident with a renewed sound that has been able to keep current in a changing rock world.

This Album was awesome just like all of their others. I love every song on here and love the way that they have so many varieties of them. Some people say that they do not like the way this album is too soft, but I feel that it is not and they did agreat job of expressing their thoughts through music. True, sometimes i am in the mood for some of their louder stuff, but this album is great for, how should I say it, relaxing to great music and lyrics. Get it....it is awesome!!

The Chili Peppers are no doubt a classic band. Californication is not their best album, but is definitely worth $14. It strays away from their punk/funk fusion roots towards a mellower sound, similar to their sound when playing with Dave Navarro.

This album was good but not great. I liked this song but I think they got too much recognition for nothing. But other than that, the lyrics are interesting to listen to. Especially how they thought about the song and it talks about how California has impacted or affected the rest of the world. It is okay but not all that great.
