Tue Jun 23 2009The resting place of the Rosetta Stone and bits and pieces of famous monuments. This is a gigantic, multi-floor, multi-winged museum featuring artifacts and artwork from all parts of the world. This is also the site of the British Museum Reading Room, a beautiful, dome-shaped library.

Mon Jun 22 2009A museum with a bit of history for everyone! You may not believe that some of these artifacts belong here, since they were at one point taken from their country of origin, but the fact remains that history survives well here. Hello, Roseta Stone anyone?

Thu Jun 18 2009For a free admission you are not going to get a better museum. This place is huge so make sure you plan what you want to see as it could take a very long time to see it all. They have just an amazing collection of everything you could imagine. The Greek and Roman era exhibits are astonishing. It was also quite amazing to see the Rosetta Stone in person. All I can say is wow!

Wed Jun 17 2009Actually, only a few displays held my interest like the Rosetta stone and some others. Honestly, I was bored and the layout seemed arbitrary and not well thought out. Yawn.

Sun Aug 07 2005A must see, as others have said, but it is so massive that you will do yourself a huge disfavor if you don't allow two, maybe three days to see it. Even three days isn't enough to see all of it, but you'll probably be able to see most of what interests you, specifically. The Egyption exhibits are extensive and fairly comprehensive, as London was a major backer for early excavation expeditions. You can also see the reliefs from the Parthenon made from casts taken before they started to deteriorate so badly. Don't miss this museum, you'll regret it!!!

Thu Aug 04 2005If you can only visit one place while in London-this is IT. Incredibly vast and full of fascinating displays. It isn't humanly possible to see it all in one day. It's free, and much more entertaining and informative than just about any other attraction you might pay to see.Highly recommended. There is truly something for everyone here!

Fri Jan 03 2003I swear, me and my partner have been here so many times (it only takes us about half an hour to get there from where we live) and we still haven't seen everything! This museum is absolutely massive! We do tend to go and see some of the same exhibitions over and over again, but its worthwhile. The Egyptian display are absolutely breathtaking and the rosetta Stone is a must see. They had shut down a part of the museum where the library is as they were putting a glass roof over, but that has now been completed and it looks absolutely fantastic. this is one thing that certainly has been done well .I strongly advise that you go into the library. Its round in shape and the books they have in there! You can actually go in there and study! You never know, you might actually sit where a famous author did. Right beside the doors is a list of all the famous people who used to go there to write (this also includes politians and many others) Please, please visit this museum if you visit London. Its... Fri May 11 2001I have traveled Europe extensively and The British Museum is a must for all London travelers. I think it is a good idea to read about the museum and become familiar with it before you go. It is so large that selecting a few highlights will make your trip more enjoyable. I was fascinated with the Egyptian ruins, the Greek ruins, and the Rosetta Stone.

Tue Mar 27 2001Amazing museum. One day is not enough, but you're sure to find something interesting for everybody. I loved walking around in an Egyptian pyramid. Where else can you be totally immersed in an ancient time? In other museums you have boring displays behind glass, here you can feel like you are in the Egyptian tomb.

Mon Dec 18 2000Wonderful way to spend a cheap travel day! It's unbelievable that they can provide this educational/artistic service for the community at large for free! Tremendous collection of Greek ceramics and Greek/Roman sculpture/architectural elements.

Fri Dec 15 2000This is one of the biggest museums you will ever see in your life. They have everything from ancient Egyptian treasures to rocks from Mars. The museum is really quite interesting, but it is so enormous that it is impossible to walk around it in even a whole day. That is why I gave it a 4 rating, since they fit everything into this place.

Wed Oct 25 2000One of the few free things to see in London. Lots of stolen antiques from Roman culture and Egyptian past. It's free so check it out.

Fri Oct 13 2000You can see the world without going anywhere else (it is somehow sad though)! You need a donation only on certain days and that's great. They also have an entire part of a pyramid in there.

Thu Aug 10 2000This is one of the best museums in the world. It has an excellent collection of artifacts, including the Isle of Lewis Chessmen and Rosetta Stone. You could easily spend a full week here and still not see everything. They are open almost every day of the year, except Christmas, New Years, and a few days around Easter. This is a must.

Thu Aug 10 2000This museum is an all encompassing walk through the past. Extensive exhibits highlighted by true treasures/Rosetta Stone, mummies, and Greek vases, made it an exciting way to learn about and see foriegn objects. A good layout. Logical, easy to follow floor plan. Way to go!

Thu Mar 16 2000Visited several times. As a child aged 10 and amazed. As a student aged 18,still so much to learn. As a mother aged 29 with 2 children, who got a lot from it. Only last month as a grandmother with an eager-to-learn 10 year-old. Never fails to educate and intrique whatever your age

Sat Dec 18 1999This place has it all. Touch the Rosetta Stone, read the last written words of Lord Nelson, or peruse the Elgin Marbles. The 4,000 year old Bog man is a crowd favorite.

Fri Nov 26 1999The British Museum may sound a little dull, but it actually has an amazing collection. For me the highlight was the Rosetta Stone - this unique, incredibly important piece of history isn't even behind glass, it's just up on a pedastal right in front of you, so close you can reach out and actually touch it.
