Sun Aug 17 2008This is a funky bar for the young at heart who don't mind eating in the extremely dimly lit downstairs bar. I didn't care for my microbrew b...

Wed Sep 19 2007I went to Brewer's Art with a group of 10 people to celebrate my birthday. The accommodations were easy for them, even at the tail end of restaurant week. We got in a little earlier than we would normally eat, and the service remained impeccable throughout the busy dinner hour. The food was really amazingly good, and their beer and drinks were great too. After dinner, we went down to the charmingly almost-divey bar. It was a blast!

Tue Oct 31 2006Brewer's Art is one of our favorite bars. It has great atmosphere, and an impressive beer selection. Besides their own brews, they have an extensive list of beers available from around the world. Its location makes it a perfect place to meet for drinks before or after eating at one of the many Mt. Vernon restaurants--or right there in their own dining room (although the food is only so-so). Try and snag one of the couches by the fire place, or head downstairs into the dimly lit basement, where it can be a bit smokey, but you will definitely feel you're in with the cool crowd.

Sat Sep 23 2006This place is incredibly crowded, but the long wait at the bar is tolerable only because the food and beer are both excellent. The vegetable sandwich is the best I've had during my weekend in Baltimore, and their fries are top-notch and addictive. The beer is good, solid Belgian style, some was high in alcohol. The service was good considering the large crowd of people, but I wouldn't say they were particularly friendly.

Fri Jun 30 2006I love to drink their beer, especially in the basement. But don't bother with the fine dining (amateurish at best).

Thu Sep 09 2004Never had "rude" service here, but it does get loud and crowded, so it can be a little slow. Downstairs is a little young (mostly 20's) for me, but upstairs is great. Haven't had a bad experience in several dozen visits over the years.

Thu Aug 19 2004I agree with what some other people have said. The bartenders are rude. Go to Brewer's Art for the beer and atmosphere, not for the service.

Fri May 07 2004Even though I have friends that recommend Brewer's Art, I have never had a pleasant experience. The bartenders are rude, ignore patrons and do not abide by "the customer is always right" rule whatsoever. I will not go back and I do not recommend it to anyone else.

Wed Apr 28 2004The Scene The upstairs dining room makes the argument that beer can be just as classy as wine. Wood-paneled walls, old books and jazz music create the feel of a country library in the heart of Baltimore's chicest neighborhood. High ceilings, white tablecloths and a well-heeled crowd further the argument. The Food Like the beer, the menu changes with the season, but patrons can always find inventive takes on rustic European fare. With only nine main-course items offered at any given time, Brewer's Art wastes no room on boring basics. Instead, diners will find a hearty port-infused oxtail ragout topped with two perfectly seared slices of tuna, or a moist, flavorful double-bone pork chop served with braised cabbage. A salad of large grilled sardines with a timbale of fingerling potatoes makes for a bold beginning; a chai-spiced cake that tastes of chocolate and gingerbread is a sublime way to end.

Thu Nov 06 2003The upstairs at the BA is all class - a tastefully refinished Victorian-era rowhouse. The basement is where happy hour is best, with brick walls, low ceilings, and nooks of tables. It is fun in ways that places like Bohager's wishes they could be. The food is fabulous, but the reason to go is the BA's own brews. Cerberus - as in the triple-headed guard of Hades - has three times the alcohol of your regular beers, and wonderufl taste. Other offerings are ample and appeal to even the snootiest of beer snobs. The most popular, by far, is Resurrection - a dark golden brew that just begs for continual sipping, it is so fine and full-bodied. By far the best of Baltimore beer.

Tue Aug 05 2003One of the best places in town. Couches, a fire place, 14 foot ceilings. The beer is excellent and cheap every night until 7 p.m. ($1.75 or so for double strength, microbrewed 16 oz beers). Downstairs is a rougher, people in black rathskellar. The food is great and changes daily. You rule, Brewer's Art.

Tue Jul 01 2003It's a chill place to hang out with friends. Their drinks are pretty cheap, and their beer is their own special brew. All in all, a pretty fun place. Very low-key, but can get a little loud on the weekends. Also, it's gay-friendly.
