The real fans are as passionate and knowledgeable as  they come. However, since the 2004 season, a lot of the same exact Facebook/ My Space people who come here and write sux or hellz to the naw have also been mysteriously showing up with pink or camouflage Red Sox hats and cellphones at Fenway.

It used to be a badge of honor in fandom, but they won a couple titles and picked up the bandwagon bitches that kill it for the real fans...

Mostly a very loyal crew, though an awfully self-centered lot -- all the positives and negatives associated with ethnic loyalties could be applied to the Red Sox fan. Their one beautiful virtue is their indisputable knowledge of the history of their team, but they are also obsessed with perceived betrayals in ways that I would find laughable ... for example, some New England students walk out on teachers who declare their allegiance to someone else. The recent growth of the Red Sox "Nation" is preposterous bandwagonism. Still, I've found there are many good people among this group of oddballs ...

No question, they (I guess I should say we) can be a bunch of anxiety driven pains in the butt, with occasional forays into violence. I've also got to say I find the sudden increase in the citizens of so-called Red Sox Nation bemusing. Yes, there is, and always has been such a nation of fans, but most of the newcomers can barely tell you what the Green Monster is, let alone know why the phrase "Game 6" means something special.

Most delusional, annoying, douchiest fans on the freakin' planet. Nothing makes me happier when they lose; nothing made me more miserable when they put an end to the curse. The fans simply didn't deserve it.

Disgustingly obnoxious. They win one World Series in 87 years and the Chowds scream DYNASTY. The freakin' Marlins have won more series in just 12 years or so. I hate when the company empty suit (from Waltham) struts around when his DRed Sox win. But ask him what's going on in any other division or any non-Sox player and he's clueless. ESPN is in the process of redefining baseball by airing or talking about only Red Sox and Yankees. Their goal is to collapse major league baseball so that they are the only 2 teams left and they play each other 162 times a year. Hopefully, the Sox won't win another Series in the next 87 years.

Red Sox fans know the game, are passionate and damn loyal. We whine and are self absorbed because we love our team so much and they always get THIS CLOSE. LOL! And you know it, the Red Sox are beloved, no matter what. They just make you work at it - at it has now been All Worth It. What a great team in 2004. PS: Yup, Yankees Suck.

Whiny and violent. I don't care how much you hate the Yankees (and I do hate the Yankees) the players are just doing their jobs; you don't throw things at them. If you're sitting close yell at em, insult their wives and mothers, whistle, boo, and so on. That's all part of the game. Trying to do physical harm isn't. Same goes for the way Red Sox fans treat Yankees fans. I'm all for mocking someone just for liking the Yankees, but there needs to be just a little more motivation for getting into a fistfight. And then there's the whining. Sure it stinks to be in the East, but these guys have a huge budget. Second, if I'm not wrong, only to the Yankees. Now why can't they win the series? Especially when you consider Florida and Minnesota's budgets. Face it as odious as Steinbrenner is he does what you're supposed to do with that much money: he wins. The Bo Sox spend almost as much and all they have to show for it are those highlight reels pinpointing the exact point where the... Read more

Very neurotic. . .although they do understand baseball they seem to be very obsessed with themselves. Red Sox fans think that everything that happens in baseball is directly or indirectly related to them. Certainly the most unique baseball fans in America.
