Born in the U.S.A. (Bruce Springsteen)

I've never 'got' Springsteen and in particular this album which has dated 80s production all over it making it now sound quite cheesey, esp the irritatingly shouty title track and the abysmally MTV friendly Dacing In The Dark. I slightly disagree with Moose about hime being the most 'pompous blowhard in the history of rock n roll'. IMO, Bono, Sting, Roger Waters, Paul Weller and Pete Townsend are all frontrunners.

Personally I've always thought that this was the week link in his library, along with Lucky Town/Human Touch (which maybe amounted to one good album stretched out over two). The album is bloated to the point of obesity and all 80's bombast. Fortunately for his audience and his career Springstreen withdrew a bit on his subsequent album and started making much more personal music. I think he's making music today that is as great as his first 3 or 4 albums. How many artists are doing that after 35 years in the business.

Same old same old. More flatulence from the most pompous blowhard in the history of rock and roll. Only this time, seeing that his career was beginning to skid, he went for the most transparent and obvious populist approach available: appeal to the jingo nationalism of idiot faux patriots and drooling ideologues in the rock fan base. At least in his early records The Wuss attempted to sing from time to time: on this waste of studio hours, the only time he stopped shouting was to moan in that spoiled brat manner of his. "Cover Me" was predictable, "Downtown Train" was a song that he recorded several times before under different titles with slightly different lyrics, and the title track is something that a-holes who voted for Ronnie Rectum and George Douche might consider Music To Whack Off To. The best album that Springsteen made!! Everything else sucked!!

SO far to me this is the Best Bruce Springsteen Album ever made! Wow did he make you feel all good inside when you listened to his album. I truly beleive that THE BOSS is a healer through his music and helps you lives the good days of your younger years and how to live the most of your days today. Although his voice is not great sounding like beuaitful tone or anything but his roughness of his voice is what makes him unique and what makes him stand out and man can he write music. I think one of the best songs he wrote ever was THE LIGHT OF DAY song that Joan Jett and The Blackhearts sang on the movie of the same name starring Michael J. Fox.

"The Boss" sings raspily on. HUGELY overrated...

Strong album, especially following on the heels of his horrific 1982 acoustic release Nebraska. This album runs the gamut from political commentary (Born In the USA, My Hometown) to love, lust and loss (I'm on Fire, Cover Me, Downbound Train) to straight up fun (I'm Goin' Down, Glory Days, Darlington County). Buy it even if you aren't a Springsteen fan.

The record that launched Springsteen's career into superstar status. Possibly one of the most misunderstood albums of all time. I trully can't believe the rating is not higher.

Okay, see my screen name: Springsteen80sbaby? This album is largely why! I can easily say it is the greatest album the 80s had! I fell hard for Bruce due to this album (and of course those hot music videos!) and I, although partially blinded by love, found the music on this to be brilliant! It really is though, it takes you to so many special places in your life, your memories, and your dreams! There is nothing better than to cruise with this one 'blasting off the G-top' to quote "Darlington County!" I don't have one favorite on this cd, I love them all! So, I'll just say this: the 80s Springsteen was the HOTTEST and this collection of music is the BEST! Buy it today! and if you already own it, then crank up the volume and listen to it already!

This album is full of so many memories, for me and for anyone who lived to hear it! I can never get tired of it, any of it! I love every song! From the fun, rockin' "Working on the Highway", and "I'm Goin' Down", to the inviting and still perfect to blast in the car radio (even after all these years!) "Dancing in the Dark" and "Cover Me", to the slow and meaningful "Downbound Train" and "I'm on Fire". You will love it too, I'm certian! I can't picture life without this cd, and life with it is so awesome! I know I probabaly sound real sentimental, which I guess I am (this is my hometown...) but I can't help but welcome the fun, the romance, and the flat-out amazing E Street Band! I can't describe the feeling I get when I listen to this, but I will make an attempt! I grew up on about half of these songs (all the ones on "Greatest Hits" and "I'm Goin' Down" and "Downbound Train") and I always had taken them for granted. That is, until I got the CD! I listened to this CD the same night I bought "Born to Run", so right after "Jungleland" I was like "okay, how can anything compare after "Jungleland"! I was about to find out! Yes, it's a more commercialized pop album than "Born to Run", but that didn't stop me from falling completely in love! I found myself unable to resist any of the songs, the ones I'd heard two million times before, and the ones I'd never heard before! This is the best album in the world!!! It deserves every star it can get! 5 is not enough!! The title song is a great way to open the album, and put us on our feet and in the mood to rock! Cover Me is equally rockin, and adds a bit of sex appeal (which the boss had plenty of to begin with!). Then come Darlington County and Working on the Highway, 2 songs that not only rock, but tell stories about middle class Americans. Then, Downbound Train, the album tearjerker about a man who loses his love and can only get a menial job, and the very atmospheric I'm on Fire add a touch of softness, a chance to mellow out. Then, side two brings us No Surrender, which welcomes us right back into true rock! Then, we hear Bobby Jean, an equally rockin song with a bittersweet storyline about losing a best friend. This CD definitely brings back childhood memories. I love the beat of all of the songs and I especially love the song "Born In The USA." It was my favorite song when I was a little girl.

This is my idea of America, when I was a kid growing up in India. I like the way Bruce sings with all his guts into it.

This is one of my least favorite recordings of Bruce Springsteen's and I'm a huge fan. Not so much that the selections here are bad, I just nver felt much about them either way. And although an OK song, Born in the USA has been so used and abused I'm downright sick of it. Born to Run, Tunnel of Love, Nebraska, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and The River are all much stronger efforts. Even the spotty Wild, Innocent and the E Street SUffle, or the muddy Greetings from Asbury Park are more interesting and contain more real moments of transcendence.

I have always loved this album. As a teen, I must admit to quite a crush on the Boss, too! But my sister just gave me the tape (since my record player is broken) and I was just floored to hear I'm Goin Down, Downbound Train, and Working on the Highway again! Every song is jam-packed with meaning and soul, and it's my all time hands-down favorite album ever! From the bittersweet Bobby Jean, to the rockin' Glory Days, this is a prime example of terrific music by a hot man!

I can't say enough great things about this album! Every song is great! If I had to choose a favorite it would probably be either Dancing in the Dark (which I listen to every night as I'm falling asleep!) or I'm Goin Down, or maybe Glory Days. Heck, My Hometown is great too! The Boss is the BEST! He's hot too!

This album is definitely a classic. It is one of those CDs that you can pop in and not have to skip any songs. I would describe it as "feel good" music. It's got the upbeat classic, "Born in the USA" but also includes mellow music like, "Downtown Train." My personal favorite is "Glory Days." Growing up, I listened to the album with my parents on a record and now I have the CD.

It is full of hits, including the title track. By far, the Boss at his best. In my opinion, it is one of the best albums I have ever heard.

I do not like this song. I feel that it is corny. It also lacks substance and meaning. Although I'm not a fan of Bruce I feel that more content would make a better CD and song.

If you are an American you have to know Bruce. The CD is a great choice for those people who are not really into country but also don't really want to listen to mainstream rock. Bruce rocks!

Bruce Springsteen is a great example of the times the U.S. was going through in the '80's. His pop rock spoke to millions of confused teenagers as they grew up during that time.

Heartland America. Makes me think of 4th of July picnics and Chevy trucks.

Who didn't feel proud to be an American when this song came out? What perfect timing to have 'Born in the USA' come out, right in the middle of the Cold war. I could be mistaken, but didn't Rocky IV come out soon there after. Just so 80's.

This was the Boss's first commercial success and while some long-time fans turn their nose at it, I really like it.

Born in the USA will always be a classic hit!
