Thu Aug 27 2009This beer is one of my favorites -- it would definitely make it into my top 5. True, it's better from tap, but the cans are still good. Take what you can get when you can get it. For starters, it's a gorgeous beer - pour one into a pint glass and you'll see what I mean. Very frothy and creamy in appearance - somewhat sweet but not very aromatic. However, it's all in the taste for me. Creamy, smooth, bliss. It might not be the best tailgaters beer or one to drink on the beach. But give me a cold four-pack of Boddingtons, my Liverpool pint glass, and some English Premiere League action and I'm all set.

Mon Jun 22 2009Oh how I love Boddingtons! This is one of my very favorite beers. I contend that it must be drank on draft, not in the can. The canned variety just doesn't do the brew justice though it does recreate the signature creamy head. This bitter has a smooth consistency and delicious malt-y flavor. Ah how I long for one right now!

Wed May 06 2009A very smooth English bitter. Pours creamy smooth with a huge white head that subsides to about a one inch head. Great lacing. Nice sweet malty flavors with a bitter dry finish. Well recommended.

Tue May 06 2008Boddington's is a delicious light ale. It is sweet and very satisfying. If purchased in cans, it has to be poured very slow to achieve a good result. It is probably my favorite English ale.

Fri Mar 14 2008Pretty good example of an English bitter.

Wed Mar 05 2008The only place I drink this is at Soldier Field. There is a stand that sells Guiness, Boddingtons and Harp just outside the door to my seat. Hmmm!

Wed Oct 31 2007I admit, the only reason I tried this beer was because of a reference to it on the show Friends. Having admitted that, I am glad I tried it. I order it anywhere I find it, which is to say not often. I compare it to a light Guinness.

Wed Aug 22 2007Very smooth with nice "mouth feel" but the taste is a little bland. The smoothness of this beer, which I think comes from the widget inside, always reminds me of the British poll a couple of years ago where the beer widget was deemed by the vox populi to be the greatest invention of the last 40 years. 'Cuz after a few beers, stuff like, I dunno, computers and that heart transplant thing seem relatively less important.

Mon May 14 2007I first drank this when I was in England and fell in love with it. This is definately one of my favorite beers now. It is smooth and not very carbonated (which I like). It tastes much better when it isn't ice cold (surprisingly). It tastes good from the can (imports) because it contains a widget which keeps it from having that typical import skunky taste.

Mon Mar 12 2007Any beer I had ever tried had been dissapointing untill I tried this beer. I should note that I don't really like carbonated beverages, so I don't drink soda. But this beer has an extremely low carbonaiton, so you won't notice many bubbles, but the creamy flavor is great. I really enjoyed it.

Mon Mar 12 2007I agree Helmut, I buy this every once in a while and I enjoy both the flavor and the creamy texture. It goes great with a steak too.

Mon Mar 12 2007Boddingtons is a good beer and nice to have espeacially from the Tap. But if I had a choice between this and John Smiths, I would Choose John Smiths any day of the week!!! ( I miss this so much!!)

Mon Dec 25 2006very good beer. As with most beers, draft is better than the canned version. however, this beer seems to travel well and the canned version seems to have a similar taste and structure no matter where i have it.

Fri Dec 01 2006A great English brew. Get this on tap if you can, as it's better than the cans.

Tue Jun 20 2006Similar to Guiness without the body. I wasn't overly impressed.

Tue Apr 11 2006Have to disagree with a previous comment that the canned and draught are similar. Canned is good. Very drinkable and smooth. Draught is very good in my experience. This is not a hoppy or bitter beer, so, being a malt not a hops guy, it will always be high on my list for a cool one during the heat of summer in place of my favorite stouts, porters and such. Recommended, especially on tap if you can find it.

Fri Sep 09 2005Very nice ale, smooth and definately more flavorful when the chill is off. Can't get it around here so only have had one but would drink it again.

Fri Jul 08 2005Smooth English cream ale. . .it seems flat to an American beer drinker but it's not. . .the 'cream ale' doesn't have a lot of bubbles. . .pour it into a cold, tall glass and enjoy! Terrific brew.

Tue Apr 19 2005This is a review for the can version, I'm a lover of good English ale but I was rather disapponited by the lack of flavor of this ale, it cost me quite a bit too. I can't see anything special enough to recommend it to anyone. Maybe it's better on tap in England.

Mon Aug 18 2003I know I shouldn't like Boddington's as much as I do. But it's usually on special offer in Sainsbury's, so I pick up 24 and go home to slurp away happily.

Fri Aug 08 2003Reject Guiness.

Sun Jun 29 2003Good but not great beer. Lot of head and none of the bitterness of other beers. Easy to drink, but its taste is almost bland.

Fri Jun 28 2002Pretty average beer. Draught doesn't taste much superior to that out of a can, which is never a good sign. There are far more better beers available.

Wed Jan 30 2002Boddington's Pub Ale is one of your typical English Ale's. Good, smmoth flowing taste, would have almost rated it a Good, and it is good, just doesn't blow me away.
