Wed Aug 03 2011I have long been a fan of Bob Evans, felt that I would always at least get good food. Today was a total let down. I was in a Bob Evans in ST. Joseph, Missouri. Ordered the Sausage/egg biscuit bowl. Almost immediatly here comes my order-sausage gravy and biscuts and she takes off. I have to go tell someone that its wrong as I couldn't find the waitress. She was very apologetic and left what she had brought and turned in the right order. OK, first the cook had strung gravy all over the side and hard to find a place to pick it up to move it closer, the sausage gravy was grey in color and looked very unappetizing, yet it was noon, I'd had no breakfast and was hungry, so I took a bite of what I thought was sausage-it was soft and didn't chew up, no idea what it was, but not sausage! Started poking around and found two more of the critters. Then the real order came-what a bummer! Potatoes were not even browned, then when I took a bite they were half raw, eggs and sausage-hard to find... Read more

Tue Jul 06 2010I do admit that I was negative at first about this place... but I do think it is a good place to go if you are in the mood for homestyle. But, However,my opinion of this place is changed.... UPDATE1: I do remember a good expenice now! I did liek the food at the marietta, ohio location. but i did have chicken strips and they were farily good and thew mashed potatoes were pretty good but a tad lumpy. The service was slow considering it was not too crowded and it was only lunch time. Visit date->may 2002 UPDATENEW!: The last time I went there (The location around Pickerington,OH)it was really crowded and it was hectic and it also was really slow and the service was really slow (they did not repay us for the delay like we expected) they did act moderatly and were kinda nice but not as personal as I expected) I threw up over the balcony like a drunk person. the porck chops made me sick!!! Last visit-> Feb 2004 UPDATE2:I just ate there on new years (Mentor,OH)and it was great! the food came... Read more

Tue Apr 06 2010This Coconut Creme Pie is available at Bob Evans. This may be the best pie I ever had in my whole life. Sound dramatic? Good, it should! This pie is Heaven in a box. This has the one crust that never get soggy! The perfect coconut cream, and topped with whipped cream, and coconut shavings... Oh, delicious... No telling how many calories this heavenly death trap has in it... But, who could care while eating perfection. This pie couldn't get any better! Go buy one!!!! I like... 1. Absolutely everything! I hate... 1. Absolutely nothing!

Fri Apr 02 2010we were sooooo hungry.........so we stopped to try Bob Evans because they advertise on TV.... the chicken had been over-marinated and was sponge-like and really gross, the broccolli was hard and the waitress insisted it was steamed, they had bought some potatoes down the street because they sold out and the potato I got was the driest potato I have ever had........my husband got sausage omelet and it was full of gristle..........the waitress was singing christmas carols in march because she didn't like the overhead music and they gave us a $2 coupon because we couldn't honestly say we were ok with the food........i would never eat their again........i will go to some mom and pops diner up the road

Fri Mar 26 2010Don't try the Bob Evans in Leesburg,FL. Bad food...came out cold. Manger Ryan Pennel was no help in the matter..offered to microwave it? Then cracked a racial joke too inappropriate to post here. Will never return.

Tue Dec 29 2009Bob Evans is a minimal step above Denny's (closest thing I can compare it to) in that the food is a bit better and a bit less priced than Denny's. But still, I'd probably take another chain over this one.

Thu Sep 17 2009My Mom loves this restraunt and she drags me here a lot. It seems like sometimes, all I see is old people here, and even the waiters and waitresses are old, but at the particular one we go to, these "old" people are the friendliest staff around. They give you great service. They have an amazing cook here that we know very well and it's clear when he wasn't the one who made the meal, when he makes it, everything always comes out right and tastes great. I must say if every Bob Evans was like this, they would be making even more money. The lunch at Bob's is not bad, either. Bob Evans is NOT a place where 2 teens would go and grab breakfast or something, but Bob Evans is a great family restraunt and a good place for older people, too.

Wed Aug 12 2009I work for Bobs and I can say that the management staff tries ver hard to make the customers feel welcomed and there is very high expectations for the managers to follow. Of course with some employees like in all restaurants they don't care about the business, all they care about is that they get a pay check. I think that if all the employees would just have a lil bit of respect for their job and the business than there wouldn't be any problems. Employees want a job but don't want to work for the money, which you have to be there anyways so why not make the best of it. I know sometimes I feel that I give the best of myself and I feel that the service was great but I don't get tipped, but you just have to take the good with the bad ya know. Some people just don't know how to tip. But, I think that if all the employees realize that the people are spending their hard earned money they made to come to your restaurant than you have to treat them the way you would want your mother to b... Sat Aug 08 2009Worked for Bob Evans for 6 months, during that time they revamped 80% of major policies, bad move, personal friends who owned stock are not happy to say the least with the outcome. I worked at bob evans/villages FL. very seasonal. after season died... it became obvious they sent out an axe-man, assistant manager Ryan Pennels, to cut labor through any lame breach of policy avaiable, I saw 4 fired in 5 days..FACT, I was one of them. I was fired for asking if I could have food that would be thrown out. The AM Ryan.. said no, threw it out, then re-collected the food from a trash can and put it in the office for the GM named Buck. Obviously it was a lame attempt that had no backing, never had a related write-up or verbal warning.. so unemployment went through. I was a good employee 99% on time and worked hard. I wouldn't eat at, work for, nor support a company that is so into lies for proffit. consider this before you decide to eat at a once great chain from Ohio, that has passed presid... Read more

Tue Nov 11 2008The food at Bob Evans is the same stuff at KFC for the most part. The only exceptions are the meats and bread. Thus, a guest is paying approximately 30% more for not much of an upgrade. Bob Evans is a great example of an average franchise restaurant. Most consider it a breakfast place, and breakfast is probably the best value on the menu.

Sun Nov 09 2008I love Bob Evans for you southerners it is not only better than anything I've eaten in Tennessee but I eat breakfast lunch and supper there when I am in Ohio

Sun Jun 29 2008Dinner at Rock Hill, SC location tasted like a bad frozen dinner. First and last time I'll ever eat at Bob Evans.
by disobvious
Sun Jun 22 2008Frozen meats, canned vegg. You can get the same thing (or better) from a frozen banquet dinner.

Sun Feb 17 2008Great breakfast, which you can order any time of the day. Not much else on the menu but the breakfast is worth it.

Mon Oct 01 2007I have eaten at good and bad bob evans. the one in portsmouth oh made me vomit. The one in cincy was good especially the bean soup. I had horrible service in allentown pa they just stood around and gave cold food. I recently went to one in erie pa and it was good although i told my server that I wa was a diabetic and she forgot and gave me sweet tea. The one 20 years ago in lexington was rather good as was the one in huntington and ashland.

Sat Sep 08 2007The king of all breakfast foods! I grew up in Ohio and would atten the yearly events at the Bob Evans farm. I love the clean family atmosphere of their restaraunts.

Tue Feb 20 2007I think the breakfasts are ok, but other chains, such as First Watch, put Bob Evans to shame. However, it is a great place to take kids, especially for lunch or dinner. They have tremendous variety and HEALTHY options for side dishes that kids actually will eat. Kids meals are only $1.99, so they're a great deal too. Everyone can find something they like. The Wildfire Chicken salad is great. Regular chicken salad in the summer is outstanding. Restaurant interior is a bit unwelcoming and dated.

Fri Dec 01 2006I must agree with my friend edt4 in that this place is passable but hardly a real treat. There are some good restaurants out here, especially steakhouses which are usually better than the ones back home, but this isn't one of 'em. There's a place out here even worse called Perkins, I had breakfast there about a year ago that turned my instestines inside out, & it made Bob Evans look like a 5 star restaurant. If it sucked just a little bit more, I'd call it Bob Jones Restaurant, after one of my favorite targets- that 'you too can get a degree in 7 minutes if you follow the instructions inside the cover of a matchbook' 'university' devoted to moronic hate.

Fri Dec 01 2006If you're in the South, it's a safer bet than Waffle House. . .but you run the risk of declaring war on your intestines. . .

Thu Nov 30 2006During the early to mid 90's, I drove out to Chicago a few times from NJ, trips that, if I remember right, took me about 2 days. In the interests of economizing, I'd eat my meals at Bob Evans, a chain I had never heard of before my journeying out to the mid-west. It had the virtue of being fairly cheap. It also was pretty lousy, if my memory serves me right (and it generally does when it comes to food). Bland, affordable food. I don't know if its improved in the years since I ate there, but I kinda doubt it.

Tue Aug 22 2006Perhaps I am a simpleton, but I love this place. The service is always good no matter how busy they are and the food is always good too. We actually have 3 of these in our city so others must agree with me. I am always happy to go there, the price is right, the service is consistently good, and so is the food. Now if they would just stop forcing you to stand at the counter to cash out, this is only a bother when they don't have a cashier standing there and you have to wait till someone comes.

Wed Apr 19 2006Fine chain that I will say rivals Sizzler. I do believe that they make on time orders and they have the best food there is. It's pleasing to my appetite.

Tue Apr 11 2006Ate at one in Fort Myers and got sick real sick. I will never eat at another one again

Mon Mar 13 2006Whoa! Whenever sales want to duck in and grab a quick lunch, I suggest Subway, not Bob Evans. Getting as bad as Friendlys. Why is this (and Cracker Barrel in the same classification as Ruth's Chris and such?
by gaminister
Thu Mar 02 2006This chain has gone downhill in a hurry. The last time I ate at one, they were serving canned vegetables that had been sitting around all day. The mashed potatoes were instant and runny. I won't waste my time at a Bob Evans again.

Wed Dec 14 2005I'm from nj but I went to pa with my girlfrined for the weekend and we went to to bob evans good food, and those lemonaides with all the weird strawberry flavorings and such were really good I liked it.

Mon Nov 14 2005So far I have only had one bad expereince at a Bob Evans location, ( I waited 10 minutes at the hostess podium to be seated while the hostess sat at the counter and drank soda blatently ignoring me, i eventually left). The manager handled it well i think and i was able to give them another try. I find the food to be good for the price, and the staff and management are usually very friendly. To those who maynot have been to a Bob Evans, try the baked potato cheddar soup with bacon and chives. its my personal favorite.

Fri Oct 28 2005Quality of food is usually great (for "comfort food"), but service is unpredictable.

Sat Oct 08 2005On a road trip, when you're tired, there is usually a Bob Evans off an oncoming exit. A Chicken Fried Steak meal and I'm good to drive another 600 miles or so.

Mon Jun 27 2005Good for breakfast in every location I have been to. Anything other than that I would dine elsewhere for the money, just like Friendly's.

Tue May 10 2005I've eaten there several times, the food is fantastic the service is usually very friendly and it has fairly good atmosphere for a chain restaurant. I just wish they would expand a little to more areas.

Fri Jan 21 2005Being out of state and visiting the Athens Ohio Bob Evans, I have found this is the best in the chain! The food is better than any others & the staff is SUPER. They have a manager named Todd that I have met and he is the BEST. Now I know why this location is the best, The manager & staff...

Fri Aug 13 2004My husband and I used to frequent the Ashland, KY location, but the service has gone way downhill. On our last visit, the waitress failed to offer us refills on our drinks the entire time we were there. The food is mediocre. The breakfast, though, is pretty good, but I'm not a breakfast kinda person.

Thu Jul 29 2004My favorite national chain for breakfast. I'd eat there every day if the nearest one wasn't 40 miles away.I always look at the lunch, dinner and dessert menus and think that I should order from them. But the breakfast is so good.

Mon Jun 21 2004In response to the server feeling like too many things were expected for 2.13 per hour.....if the average tip is only $1 for breakfast and lunch, you must really be in a bad area. I know several Bob Evans servers in our area who are always making good tips. They consider $2 to be low. One of my friends who works there has gotten as much as $10 several times, and not for large checks. Sounds like you live in cheapville. It isn't Bob Evans fault that you don't make tips. It's the fault of the customer. Personally, I find Bob Evans food, service and overall quality to be excellent. Granted, it varies by location, but that is a management issue.

Sat Mar 27 2004I am from New England and Bob Evans aren't up here but down in the south towards Deleware Bob Evans are every were. The food Is good the service is Good the selection is not so good. When me and my family went in there I asked for a muffin they laughed at me and said we don,t sell muffins thats crazy. Up in New England muffins are sold frequently.

Mon Mar 08 2004I work at a Bob Evans. I am an educated women. I found myself in between job because of divorce. Here is most of a letter I wrote to them and it is to nice, put it that way. Im writing you concerning the added duties for the salesperson at Bob Evans. I understand that Bob Evans gives us a place to make a living and pays us $2.13 per hour. I just dont agree with the added duties we have. We already have to take an order, take out their drinks, their food, give refills, and suggestive sell (not counting cleaning and other duties such as carrying dishes, stocking ECT.) Now, we have to bus our tables and run every ones food. Please do not get me wrong I dont mind working, But the average breakfast and lunch tip is $1 per person (sometimes not even that). I do not think we are getting paid the right pay for all you are asking of us. When I can go work at a Wal-Mart and make around the same money. I would get breaks there, and be treated fair. I am not by all means the only sales... Read more

Wed Sep 03 2003Overall the food is pretty good IMO. To their credit they seem to change things occasionally keeping the menu fresh and interesting. For instance, in the past few years they've added a decent selection of salads. My favorite is the Cobb salad which is great with their honey mustard dressing.

Mon Aug 25 2003Good Food, especially the desserts, and reasonable prices.

Tue May 13 2003I go to one specific location, and I have never had a problem there. They've been nothing but friendly. The wait is almost always long, but it's worthwhile. The Cheddar-Baked-Potato soup is great, their pork chops are excellent. The selection is good, but I stick to my "usuals". It's nothing fancy, but it's very decent in pricing and a pretty nice atmosphere.

Tue Mar 25 2003This chain is soooo dependant on the management for quality. There is one near my mother's house that is fantastic. The one near me is horrid.
