we feed our 4 year old chihuahua and our 3 year old cocker spaniel Blue Seal dry and wet foods. At first we had been feeding them pedigree, but we noticed that our cocker's skin condition (she has severe skin allergies sometimes) were only getting worse. not only that my chihuahua began to scratch and paw at himself and cry. overall they were lethargic, not at all they're usual peppy selves. we decided instead of going to the vet (way too expensive for us right now) we'd follow one websites advice by changing the food, so we switched to Blue Seal. My chihuahua has got to be the pickiest dog alive, but he adores this food and so does our cocker spaniel. so now her allergies, though they still happen sometimes, are not near as frequent and don't last near as long. not only that, both dogs are at their happiest i think i've ever seen them.

Not a fan. Grain heavy a little low in the protein department and it has corn in it and used mixed quality ingredients.

I'm researching puppy foods and have seen sites that give Blue Seal very negative reviews based on the amount of corn products and beet pulp. Our labrador retriever ate Blue Seal over her 15 year life span, starting with puppy food and ending with senior diet with no negative effects that I could see. I like that it is manufactured locally in NH and thus is probably the freshest dry food I could buy. Still, there is so much conflicting information out there - one site says grains are bad and recommends dog foods with 40% or more protein - other sites say limit the amount of protein a dog gets, particularly a growing dog, because it can lead to growth defects. Maybe I'll just stick with Blue Seal and see how it goes.

I have yet to actaully feed this product, but the reviews seem wonderful. My only concern is the presence of corn and glutens in all the formaulas listed on their website except the Pork and Barley Flavor. We have three dogs, an 8yr old Lab 5yr old Pit and 2yr old Pit. I am always looking for better quality for a good price, and noticed this is available at my local Tractor Supply. Some of the best foods available are ONLY in the feed stores, which are too often dismissed as "hillbilly" or "red neck". Let's be honest, what do city folk or us suburbanites really know about listening to the animals and what they need rather than the commercials? I am willing to give this brand a try and am hopeful that I will have the same results as others. I probably would not have been willing to try this brand if not for the posts Ihave seen here! Thanks you to everyone who has contributed to this site. God Bless all who care enough to read this post!!! Don't forget that EXERCISE is just as important... Read more

A local feed store recommended Blue Seal to me for quality and also convenience (I have a puppy and two adult dogs) so I could feed them all the same product. My 7 yr old Lab suffered from dry skin which we were told was a bacterial infection from ground contact or too much swimming in a chlorinated pool. After several weeks of feeding the new food her skin cleared, fur has grown back and she's in great spirits. What a great bonus that I didn't expect. Thank you Blue Seal!

We discovered Blue Seal in a feed store in Maine. We bought a 20-pound bag, followed by a 40-pound bag before we left. We bought the pork and barley formula because it contains no corn, no wheat, no soy and no nasty chemicals -- in short, all the things that make our guys itchy/scritchy. Our black Lab is shining like patent leather; the Cairn has enough coat for two dogs. We love the stuff and probably will be paying an exorbitant rate to get it shipped to Florida. It's worth it!

Blue Seal is awesome. If you are waying cost vs. quality vs. natural ingredients, Blue Seal is a winner. First ingredient is Chicken Meal in the adult formula. Only difference between adult and Puppy formula is the addition of Fish meal also with 27/12 crude protein vs fat. You can leave your dog on puppy forever with this one if you wish, and it is similar to a much more expensive product. $25.00 for 40lbs with no chemically junk found in major brands!!! Why? Expensive marketing doesn't work on farmers which is who this food is made for. They view their dogs just like the rest of the working animals on their farms. Farmers look for the highest quality feed for the best price, and marketing holistic, vegan or specialty foods for $100 a bag is silly.

My 4 year old boxer had been eating Nutro Ultra for about 3 years. In November '06 we noticed that she was becoming very lethargic and she would often leave her food untouched. By January '07 she began developing bald spots. She had been tested for hypothyroidism and the test came back negative. It was then suggested that she may have alopecia. Upon the recommendation of a boxer breeder (not the vet), we switched our girl to Blue Seal. Within three weeks her fur had grown back and her energy had been restored. Unfortunately we didn't make the switch until May. I truly believe that BLUE SEAL helped our girl.

Super premium line is a good one. Senior food is chicken meal first, yes, it does have only corn product, rice, flaxseed, chelated, a good amount of protein from the chicken meal. My dogs do well on this food, even the two three year old ( altered mini dachsies. Economical a forty pound bag is only $25.00 locally made in Massachusetts.
