I have a very fussy little pooch but she totally loves Blue Buffalo! After the scary recall we had a few years ago I read all labels for anything I gave her but with Blue Buffalo I feel very confident I am giving her excellent quality food at a decent price. I know, I am a crazy mama to my dogger! This isn't food that can be found in a regular grocery store, but for my peace of mind and her preference it is worth the extra trip to a specialized pet food store.

I love blue buffalo, yes it's expensive but when has eating right ever been cheap. McDonalds has a $1 cheese burger yes it's good and cheap but it's not good for you. I have 3 dogs a yorkie, pit bull, and Doberman and they love it. The Doberman and the pit has been only eating blue for a year. Before the switch they use to smell like corn chips all the time even after baths and the gas was horrible. My yorkie is only 1 years old and has been eating blue from day one. My vet recommended blue buffalo for my yorkie on his first visit and I notice he never smelled or had smellly gas. So that's when I decided to which the other dogs and the smells went away. To all who had a negative comment regarding their dogs reaction to the food i will say this, everything is not for everyone. We as people can't eat the same food rather good or bad. I can't eat diary products but that does not make milk bad. So our beloved pets can't all eat the same either. You just have to find a dog food that's right... Read more

Blue buffalo has ruined my boxer pup's stomach. She was perfectly fine until about three days after we started her on the large breed puppy food and then she would vomit after she ate. Our vet told us to take her off it and we followed his advice. After we took her off of it she no longer would vomit after eating. However, she still will dry heave and vomit up bile. I highly discourage the use of this food.

Before Blue Buffalo, I feed my dog Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Brown Rice. My dog didn't mind the food and would normally eat it, however he would get dandruff falling all over his body when I try to brush or pet him. After switching to Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice for a week, I gave my pit a shower and all the dandruff were GONE! :D It's good to know that my pitbull health condition had been improved and loves the food he eat.

I have a 1 year old Australian Shepherd with the most sensitive stomach on this planet. I tried everything but nothing would keep him from having massive diarrhea. The only food that would give him firm bowel movements was Science Diet and I hated keeping my dog on it due to how low quality food it was. Not to mention how expensive it was. It was highway robbery! I had my Ausie on Canidae for a while but he was only doing “okay” on the food. In the morning the bowel movements would be firm but more on the soft side. By evening they were runny again. It was not caused by health issues; I took my Ausie to the vet and he told me what I already knew, he had a sensitive stomach. I was at my ends, I heard about blue buffalo but I was so scared of switching my pup in fear it would make his bowel movements worse. After 5 months of Canidae I finally made the switch and I’ve never been happier! His bowel movements are as firm as when he was on science diet and I’m seeing a noticeable change in ... Read more

We've been feeding Blue chicken and rice for 2 years to our two Golden Retrievers. They did well until June 2011. Suddenly the food looked different, we disregarded it. The fireworks started up and so did their nerves-diahrrea ensued. We found out that they had a bacterial infection which we blamed on a bone from the pet store. After antibiotics, the vet said all was well but they were still lethargic and had soupy diahrrea, difficult to clean up from the yard and the house! We waited and waited because the vet said it could take quite a long time for them to recover. Another trip to the vet. "Please make sure they're ok" I was freaking out. He didn't seem to have an answer. Decided to call Blue. The consultant assured me there was no change to the formula made. Our next bags of Blue looked the same they had in May. Hmmm. Our dogs' poo is firming up. I suspect a change of bags/labels or food was made that totally trashed our dogs. We have had vet bills, poo out of con... Read more

I have a very small breed and he would eat in limited portions the puppy food I have always given our dogs. Infact, he would move around a lot at night & wake me up. I finally realized he was not sleeping well because he was still hungry! I was getting worried so I researched all the websites and was shocked to find out how little I knew about the premium dog food I thought I was giving our dogs. I am a pretty healthy eater and never realized my dogs need to eat healthy too. At first, it was comical to see him eat the Blue puppy food, the instructions say to slowly wean them off the current food by portioning in 25% of the Blue & 75% of the old and then increase (so you don't shock their system with such healthy stuff, i guess). It worked he ate every bit and some of the old food too with no problems. Three days in to this switch over he looks at me excited for the "New Stuff". Most importantly, slept through the night like a little puppy baby. I get to sleep too! Just so you ... Read more

BLUE IS A GREAT BRAND!! people who say their dog ends up with a developed chronic diarrhea that progressed to liquid, or explosive diarrhea AND BLA BLA BLA DRAMA DRAMA are not switching the dog food the way it should be done. or the case may be that your dog may need blue BASICS for a dog with a sensitive stomach OR a dog that is allergic to certain things. My dog has been eating blue for almost 2 years and he is healther then before no problems what so ever. When i take him to the vet they are amazed by how nice and healthy he is.

I decided to switch to Blue Buffalo after one of my dogs became alergic to "fillers." It was one of the worst mistake of my life. My dogs both developed diarreah after two months; I switched to another brand right away. One of my dogs, a 6-year-old, hasn't been the same since. He's always been a self-feeder, but now is over weight and has suddenly become blind. I'm not necessarily blaming BB for the blindness, but I REGRET EVER TRYING this product. I would NEVER recommend it to ANYONE, unless you're willing to take a HUGE RISK at the expense of your dogs health. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM BLUE BUFFALO!!!! = [

Wonderful dog food look at the ingredients and google every thing like i did. I work in banfied pet hospital and the main reason pets die early is due to bad nutrition, in other words bad dog food. Go to blue buffalo.com and go to the right and click compare dog foods so you can see what every dog had in it. My dog has been eating blue for 2 years and he super healthy and has never had any problem. IF YOU ARE PLAING TO SWITH TO a NEW PET FOOD dont switch right away your dog may get diarrhea. have a little bit of the old dry food and mix it with the new and slowly get rid of your old brand so your dogs stomach gets used to it. :D

Well, I work at a vet's office and am very aware of the ingredients in normal dog foods so when I got my two Siberian husky puppies I wanted to feed them something good instead of the pedigree that they were on. I have had them for about 5 weeks, the first week we spent switching them off of the old and onto the new. Their stool was soft so I figured it was just because of the new food but just in case I stopped all treats, raw hides, etc. I have been giving them JUST the Blue Buffalo large breed puppy food for 4 weeks and their stool is getting worse. Today one of them even had pure water diarrhea. I had both of their fecals tested: nothing. So now I am forced to give them stomach coaters until I can get their food switched to something else. (BTW, the puppy formulas all have chicken so if that is the problem I can't really solve it by switching to another puppy formula because they have the same main ingredient.) UPDATE: I currently have my puppies on the Blue Buffalo Lamb and Oat... Read more

Fish and sweet potato recipe cured our lab's skin issues... We adopted our female black lab from a shelter. At 12 weeks the foster home said she had skin issues when they got her. Small patches of fir missing on all paws and around ankles and knees. We put her on Nature's Recipe thinking the natural ingredients would help. The patches got worse in the summer time and the vet said it was possibly grass allergy. I didn't switch her until the following summer when one turned into an open sore on her leg from licking so much. I put her on Blue Buffalo. Within a week her fir was even shinier and the patches of missing fir started to heal. We recognized she had more energy, she even has harder/healthier stool. I definitly recommend it for skin issues. Even though I do believe Blue Buffalo can do harm to some dogs, it is up to us as their leaders to do what is best for them. Keep a sharp eye on their reaction, but our's was good. We now have a new mutt puppy (beagle/lab) and he li... Read more

My 10 year old mixed breed started on Blue Buffalo in December 2010. By February 2011 he has lost most of the hair on his lower belly & left leg. $800 in blood tests later, including extensive thyroid panels and skin biopsies, he gets diagnosed with a FOOD ALLERGY. I don't know what's in this stuff, but it is NOT GOOD. The cerified veterinary internal medicine specialist cautions all his clients to avoid this food until it is discovered what is causing these issues in multiple patients. My MilkyWay is just your average mixed breed mutt from a rescue group that has never had a health problem. Proceed with caution, uless you have money to waste! We used the Adult Chicken & Rice

My 17 month old English Mastiff was rushed to the vet friday with renal failure and her lab values were so high for phosphorus they gave her a few days to a week to live. She has been on IV fluids for 3 days now and is making remarkable recovery. When we brought her in (in shock none the less), the vet asked us numerous questions, the last one being, what kind of food does she eat? We recently switched her to Blue Buffalo turkey and potato 3 weeks ago and now she is in kidney failure??? Coincidence? My vet was shocked to see such a young beautiful dog in complete renal failure with absolutely no explanation, other than we changed her food. We are hoping she survives this and can have a normal life probably with some permanent kidney damage. Please watch your dog for symptoms!! Excessive thirst, lethargy, weight loss, not wanting to eat, frequent urination. Just because it says it's holistic and good for you and expensive doesn't mean it's healthy! Buyer beware!

My pups (5 year old black Lab & 4 year old rat terrier) they were both on Iams and gaining weight. I went to my favorite vet asked what to do and we put them on Science Diet R/D for weight loss, after 3 bags they were almost down to an ideal weight. My lab was acting like she had hip displasia. So, we put them on blue buffaflo slowing introducing it to there diet. (some people are dumb about just switching) Everyone is healthy, fit, has beautiful coats and are acting like puppies with running, swimming and jumping. I would recommend blue buffalo to anyone who will listen.

Blue Buffalo is a very good brand of dog food. They truly do put excellent ingredients in the food. Yes some dogs have a reaction but its not because the food is bad...its because now a days people expect their pets stomachs to get used to food so fast, and other companies load their foods with fillers like CORN, WHEAT, SOY. Blue is an excellent food with great ingredients staring with DEBONED CHICKEN/TURKEY/LAMB or SALMON. Some dog's digestive systems just cannot handle the nutrients. If you take a dog off another brand and give him or her Blue Buffalo they will get a tummy upset but that is because it is like taking your dog off "fast food" and putting them on "a healthy diet". Blue Buffalo is truly a holistic food and for sure very healthy.

I cannot imagine how a dog food can be celebrated as award winning and read about the many experiences other owners are having with this feed. My six yo lab and 4 yo Eng springer are healthy, active, beautifully coated and well-balanced dogs. At the recommendation of Petco clerk I tried BB Chicken Adult formula. Long story short, the lab developed chronic diarrhea that progressed to liquid, mucus filled stools. She would strain to eliminate and even sometimes awoke me in the middle of the night for a trip outside to dump explosive diarrhea. Concerned my dog may be suffering from cancer or some other terrible affliction, I spend over a month with yogurt, probiotics, stopped the wet food mixed into dry BB - everything and no chance. I thought I was loosing my two dogs and couldn't save them. I bought Gastriplex thinking her gut somehow had lost rigor and was permeable maybe due to worms or somehow lost the good bacteria or something. Vet said stool checked negative for EVERYTH... my dog had a very bad experience with blue buffalo. we started switching her gradually and noticed her stools getting softer and softer, we just thought it was the switching that upset her tummy and it would even itself out, but after a week or so she was really sick and getting dehydrated from having watery stools. we took her to the vet and she was put on a low residue diet for a while. i saw immediate changes her stools were firm and she was right back to her old self again. i personally think that blue buffalo just has too many ingredients and if you read the back it has garlic in it, for flavor im sure, but its still bad for dogs. shes eating nutro natural choice now and it seems to be working wonderfully it also has no grians or soy, turkey is the first ingredient, it has veggies, no by product or by product meal, the true blue test says it doesnt have any of this, which is a blatant lie, and part of the reason im leaving this review. blue buffalo may be a high quality food... Around this time about a year ago, Blue Buffalo had to recall their food because the food was too high in Vitamin D and resulted in the dogs having neurological problems as a result. READ THE ADEQUACY STATEMENT CAREFULLY: This food is FORMULATED to meet AAFCO nutrient requirements for dogs of all life stages. That means it hasn't been tested through tests and if there is ANYTHING that you want animal testing on, it would be DOG FOOD. In addition to this, a dog food formulated for "all life stages" means that the nutrients meet the body's requirements for a lactacting female (i.e. a mother dog needing to feed her puppies) and for growth (i.e. the puppy stage, which requires more calories, protein, carbs & very specific mineral/vitamin ratios). If your dog is not any of these, then the nutrients are in excess and can do a lot of harm. Most nutrient excesses and deficiencies tend not to show their signs until about 6 months after the dog's body has integrated the nutrients into its cells.... Read more

Thank God I never switch my dog to this food, I spoke with my vet and they warned me they have been treating pets that have bloody stools since they have been using this food. I love my pet and I want only the best but this is not what is good for pets as if it was there would be no problem with stools being loose and blood in them. Also I was informed that they can claim it is natural if there is only one ingredient that is natural. Be VERY Careful on using this food as if you have a problem the company will not return calls, my vet tried numerous times to call and they will not return her call so to me that puts up red flags.

i thought I would post my experience with Blue Buffalo - I switched from Eukanuba (on which both my dogs were doing fine energy/coat/stool all fine) because they had that time when they were out of stock - Researched dog food for days to find a quality one as I learned that was definitely not Eukanuba. I switched to the Blue Buffalo weight control for a 4 year old lab-shep mix and the senior small bites for my 12 year old terrier mix. The terrier would spit out alot of the kibble and life bits but did okay on the food. --I don't understand the theory behind the life source bits -- you will never get a uniform amount in each serving and if this is where the vitamins are you will either serve too much or too little... but anyway, my terrier was fine / just didn't seem to like it much. The lab mix had a lot of gas at first (we switched her slowly). The gas did go away somewhat but her stool loosened eventually to a worrisome pudding consistency. This took about 2.5 30 lb bags. I put h... Read more

So I Googled "Blue Buffalo gives my dog diarrhea" and BAM! A gazillion posts from pet owners claiming their dogs experienced bad gas and loose stools. I adopted my Pointer puppy three weeks ago. He was on Pedigree Adult (he came from a shelter..they can't afford gourmet foods)...I transitioned him over to Wilderness Puppy formula gradually. Immediately, even when mixed in a 10%/90% ratio of Blue/Pedigree, he had really awful gas. His stools became inconsistent and I chalked it up to adjusting to a new home, and a food change. Today, he has had really severe diarrhea. I'm all done with this. He comes off of this food tomorrow...no transition, no refund, it's just OVER. He loves the food, but it clearly does not love him. I also live in a condo building and I'm not going to be able to keep a dog for long if he's depositing loose stools in the common grass areas and I can't completely remove the feces...it's not fair to the other owners here and I wouldn't blame them if they comp... Great food, seems to be quality ingredients, highly palatable to all three of my dogs (eat dry regularly, occasional can of wet to hide medicine or something). I switched to this food about 3 years ago after being educated about the contents of "by products" in some dog foods. My dogs' have firm, solid stools and have regular schedules. I highly recommend this food, and the sweet potato flavor in general for slightly itchy patrons.

I started both of my dogs on Diamond Naturals brand dog food. Adult small breed for my Lhasso and puppy for my...puppy! I ran out and PetSmart was close by so i went to pick up more..they do not carry Diamond but a clerk convinced me to try Blue brand. Within a week both of my dogs had runny poop. Like soup. It was disgusting. I thought it was from switching so quickly without transitioning. I kept them both on it for another week with same results. i took the food back and bought the Diamond...within 2 days the poop was normal again. The vet said it was because i didnt mix it in slowly. Whatever. All i know is the poop is normal again and i didnt switch slowly the second time so how is that explained? I spent over 100 for the 2 bags of food from Pet Smart that gave my dogs Crap Soup and less than 60 from Tractor Supply for food that my dogs love and that makes their poop normal. You do the math.

With all the negative comments of the animals having runny stool, not eating all of the compounds, terrible customer service, WHY would you even give them your money to try this substandared food on your loving pet?
