Thu Jun 11 2009A waste of film and a waste of the 500 dollars it cost to make the film. The makers had the last laugh I guess, because it made millions.

Thu Jun 11 2009It was something different and the producers did an excellent job in creating buzz. I thought the movie was good the first time, but there is zero repeat viewing value here. The unfortunate result of the movie was everybody and their cousin saying, "Hell, I can do that." No, everybody can buy a camara, but not everybdy can do that.

Thu Jun 11 2009This may be based on a true story, but this movie was lame! There was nothing interesting about it.The whole movie is through the lens of a shaky camera.

Wed Jun 25 2008This movie is scary, and worth watching on Halloween, if you dare. Ha ha ha!! the sounds, the terror, it is scary as Hell. i am not liking the so called sequel. don't even bother watching the sequel. if only the Blair witch was a true story, i would like it more.

Wed Jun 04 2008This movie was better when everyone still believed it was real! Any movie that can scare you without really showing the "bad guy" is worth watching.

Thu Jun 28 2007so it doesn't fit into the catergory of every single other scary movie that you've ever watched. so what? in my opinion, they deserve to be commended for thinking outside of the box and doing a horror film in a way that actually did make you think, actually did take you outside of the "he's in the closet with a knife" box that every other horror movie you see will undoubtedly put you in. I think everybody's mad because these people got paid well for making a film without spending much money. my hats off to them, especially for not explaining everything! Yes, i'm glad that every movie is not made with jerky camera motions, and zero special effects, but i'm also glad that this one was made the way it was.

Sun Apr 15 2007Finally, an original approach in film making. The actual threat is never disclosed and that is what makes this film work.

Tue Apr 03 2007With all the hoopla about this film, I determined to watch it. I'd heard that some viewers in the theater were so frightened that they would vomit and get sick. Well now I see why they were vomiting, but it surely wasn't from fright. The vomiting had to come from one of two sources: (1) bad popcorn or candy, etc., or (2) the awful stench emanating from this terrible flick! Also the jerky camera angles make you queasy if you have been, ahem, partaking!

Tue Apr 03 2007I remember when i first saw a preview of this movie on Oprah. She said the movie was going to be the scariest one of our time, or somehting like that. And the reviews that it got were something like, "scary as hell!!!" I was so excited when i finally saw it when i was like, 16. It reminds me of a lot of different ghost stories that they tell at camp. It was one of those things where (and i dont know if anyone even knows what im talking about) but i knew that it was supposed to be like REALLY scary, and although it wasnt all to particularly frightening to me, i still look back on it as being scary. I dont know if that makes any sense, but the fact that it had scared so many people, it scared me. The filming isnt that great becasue its supposed to be the real footage, and i think everyone could do without all the language, but its definately entertaining... or at least from what i remember.

Wed Mar 21 2007I think the reason why people were vomiting was probably because of the jerking motions of the camera: it made me positively seasick. The only novelty about the whole thing was the raw feel of watching someone filming on the spot. So what? Yes, it was probably novel at that time--1999--but to me it's kind of like a bad home video that is two hours too long.

Thu Feb 15 2007The only thing scary about this waste of film is the fact that anyone liked it or found it scary...3 foul-mouthed punks who get lost and cuss more than the entire cast of "Scarface". This was without a doubt the worst excuse for a horror movie ever made. One of the worst movies period.

Tue Jun 20 2006My buddies were at McDonalds recently when they were making crosses with their french fries. I said it looked like the blair witch!

Mon Apr 24 2006Completely scary. I saw it after we knew it wasn't real in the comfort of my friend's house with all of the lights on. Scary. Being left completely vulnerable and helpless on some mysterious witch spirit's turf. Guys! That's scary! Invisible spirits always win the fear game, mainly, I think, because they transcend the physical world. How are you gonna attack them? Oh. You can't. You're at their mercy, and who knows what they'll do? You don't. You can't trust the blair witch, and can't do anything about it. If evil spirits exist, we're screwed. After seeing that movie, I had to sleep in my dad's bed. And, at 16, well...you get it.

Wed Nov 16 2005A testament to the profound stupidity and gullibility of the average consumer. They used the media to Hype the hell out of this piece of cinematic excrement-and people flocked to theaters and paid MONEY to watch it.Amazing.I was sure anything with that much "buzz" wasn't worth the time or money. When a friend of mine got a bootleg copy and showed it to me at his apartment-I was astounded at how silly and inane the whole thing was.I've seen more frightening Wedding Videos!

Fri Aug 12 2005scary very scary but if you have never been to summer camp and camped out in the woods if your a big city yuppie who has never been out in the country of course this movie would not be scary

Thu Jun 09 2005Quite creative and effective in scaring the bejabbers out of me. Most horror movies usually show their cards and reveal the thing that goes Booga-Booga. The tension builds up, but 9 out of 10 cases, the scary thing is a letdown (most notable exception - Alien). Blair Witch never tips its hand. The ending was scary and kind of left me puzzled. Someone at work explained it and I thought to myself, Brilliant. The only thing that amazed me was the stupidity of the 2 dudes and chick. I was howling when they walked an entire day and did a full circle. If you ever get stuck in a haunted forest in Burkittsville,MD, just remember to follow the stream -- it will eventually lead you to a town.

Thu Jun 09 2005I'm firmly against the entrenched Hollywood system, so I was geared from the beginning to like this film. Problem is, it's not any good. Nothing happens. Imagination is a great tool, true, but it needs something at least halfway substantial to ignite it, and this film ain't it. Basically it consists of supremely unpleasant people running around the woods lost, screaming at each other, collapsing in quaking terror over piles of twigs and sticks. The horror!

Mon Jan 10 2005This was a sorry excuse for a horror movie. They tried to build up the suspense in it, but failed miserably. I frankly couldn't care less what happened to the characters. In fact, throughout the movie I found myself wishing that each of them died a horrible very torturous death. I will admit the camera angle of the very last scene was a cool camera shot. However, that last 10 seconds was about the only redeeming thing about this movie.

Sun Oct 03 2004This is a relatively decent movie for it's uniqueness and ability to invoke some fear without ever showing a ghost or killer, and I liked the ending scenes.

Thu Sep 23 2004Not very scary. Blair Witch was boring and somewhat pointless. Not to mention, cheaply made, though that wouldn't necessarily have to detract from the element of horror. This one just didn't do much for a lot of us.

Thu Jul 22 2004One of the best horror films of recent years, a real groundbreaker. The hype may have killed it but now that the dust has settled, we can watch and enjoy it again. Like the best horror films, this works on the imagination. One of the best films of the 1990s.

Tue Jun 29 2004Like many of the raters here, I concur that this movie was one of the sorriest ever put out. It was hyped over the Al Gore-invented internet and that led to some fake buzz. I was never scared during the movie; instead I got madder and madder as I sat through this crap. I wondered how I got took on such bulls***it as this? This worthless piece of junk shouldn't be classified as horror. I've seen home movies with more terror than this. My first hair-cut on camera beat this crap. Thank goodness now everyone knows this & it's crappy sequel are pure junk!

Sun Mar 07 2004Everyone thinks this movie was based on a true story. Trouble is, It wasn't. There was no real blair witch legend in Burkittsville, Maryland. There was no local witch named Elly Kedward either. She was actually just a young Irish immigrant who wasn't even from that area! Eileen Treacle did not drown in Tappy East Creek. Her mother murdered her in 1864. Tappy East Creek does not exist. There is no Black Hills Forest in Maryland. There's no 'Coffin Rock' either. Sadly, Blair Witch is fake as they come.

Wed Nov 19 2003I was pretty disappointed to learn that the whole thing had been improvised. The swearing wasn't a problem because they were actors doing improv (making it up as they go) and that's what most young people do when they are angry, upset or frustrated.
