    Great studio. Sparkling clean. Lots of light. Best equipment with personalized, expert instruction. But what is "beyond" Pilates is the Muscle Activation Technique (MAT)--a little known method of strengthening weak muscles and maintaining body fitness. MAT deals effectively with normal sports injuries (pulled muscles, tendons etc). I've also known people to recoup strength after knee and hip surgeries. Ed Morand is the master Pilates & MAT trainer whose philosophy of integrated fitness defines this studio

    I have been training with Charisse for over a year, and can say without hesitation that her workout program has been amazing. She tailors the regimen to my ability and body type and it is challenging as well as fun. I am not a true gym person, or a workout fan. I don't have any background in pilates, but Charisse has made me a convert to the pilates method, and she has inspired me to work extremely hard to increase my strength level and flexibility. While she is clearly an expert in anatomy and muscle structure, I never feel like she's talking over my head. She breaks down each exercise into the essential building blocks, and even if I don't get through the entire series, I always feel a sense of accomplishment, because I've at least gotten through part of it. I know that my clothes fit differently, and my abdominal strength has improved significantly.     i have been a loyal client for over 6 years...this is the only workout i do, and it keeps me in great shape. the classes are amazing...hands down the BEST workout in NYC!

    I had back surgery two years ago and have been liery of reinjuring myself. Beyond Pilates had and has a responsible and beyond helpful approach to getting me back into shape. I cannot begin to express how wonderful the staff is there. Cherisse is an excellent trainer and the work out is varied and interesting as well as challenging. After ten lessons I'm ready to add yoga into my weekly routine without fear. The studio also has a friendly, private and cozy atmosphere. I look forward to exercising each week. I highly recommend it.

    Helena and I have really been enjoying coming to the studio. Jen is amazing and I think Beyond Pilates has a smart and a great personal touch. I like to pride myself on having very strong customer service approach to my own business and really appreciate the extra effort.     I've taken a couple of yoga classes, joined several gyms, and I had my own personal trainer, but nothing beats Pilates. This is the only work out I really enjoy - not only because it lengthens and tones my body, but it's also very soothing for the mind. I am glad I discovered Beyond Pilates. The studio is immaculate and the instructors are friendly. My friend and I have worked out there for the last 5 months. The instructors are exceptions, very receptive, and caring about getting us the best shape possible for our body types. Try Beyond Pilates, you won't regret it!

    Hi! you must try a class with Ed, he is fabulous. Not only he is very professionnal and will give you the right attention ( only 4 /class or private ) but he makes sure you are giving your best while making you laught!! Enjoy your workout!

    I began taking Pilates at Beyond Pilates in October 2007, and not only do I now look forward to my fitness regiment, but I enjoy it and have seen amazing results. I have lost over 10 lbs, gained flexibility, and have had a growth in my own body awareness. Also, I have taken advantage of the studio's M.A.T. (Muscle Activation Techniques). In combination with my regular pilates, I feel that BP has managed to "reinvent" my body. I have a better understanding of how my body works, and get to work with a staff that knows my body and my goals personally. The instructors here are awesome - the small groups with Ed are amazing, and the solo sessions with the other instructors are just as invigorating. You get a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and N.J., along with a great enviornment and ultra clean space. I am never going anywhere else for my Pilates!

    BEYOND PILATES has made a huge difference in my life. I have Multiple Sclerosis and, until now, have been unable to find a fitness regimen that works effectively for me with my physical limitations. Ed's intense and focused Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) and the individual attentioin I receive from Jenna in my Pilates workouts have greatly enhanced my stabiloitiy, strength, balance, and sense of confidence. Ed, Jenna, and all of the BEYOND PILATES staff's sensitivity to my strengths and weaknesses have helped me regain capabilities that I feared were permanently lost. I'm enormously grateful, and recommend BEYOND PILATES to everyone--those who have physical disabilities and those who do not!

    I started Pilates 6 months ago and have been training with MaryBeth twice a week. Twice a week I start my day with a session and feel energized throughout the day. MaryBeth really takes the time to understand my needs as a client. She balances the sessions with the physical training and information about the excercise so I can understand how the body works and what role it plays in in developing my body. She also breaks down the routine into smaller manageable pieces to improve my effectiveness in the exercise. Her enthusiasm, encouragement and patience helps me to feel good about the work I am doing. Its a pleasure to have her as my trainer.

    Beyond Pilates is a great studio. They are able to accommodate their students with small classes and attentive staff. The instructors come from various backgrounds of Pilates training and are dedicated to not only getting you into shape but also making the sessions fun and educational. The studio is spacious and bright. In addition to Pilates, the studio is one of the few places in New York City that has staff specialized in Muscle Activation Technique.

    Beyond Pilates is a great studio. The staff is friendly and energetic as well highly trained and professional. The studio is clean, spacious and well equipped. The class schedule is convenient and accommodating. Their prices are some of the most reasonable in the area.

    I've been to many training centers in the city but there's no comparison. Ed and his staff are true professionals and his establishment is immaculate. Beyond Pilate ablility to make you feel comfortable is second to none. They will cater to your needs and will give you the best solution to any problem you might have and that's what makes them different. Highly recommended........

    Taking a class at Beyond Pilates is great. Ed is professonal and he makes you feel comfortable. Ed takes the time to explain every detail to ensure you get the best workout. Whether it's the first time you've taken pilates or you're a regular, Ed keeps you motivated. For someone who doesn't do much exercise I was a bit nervous, however, Ed and his staff made sure I felt comfortable and made it fun and easy to learn. It's great to finally find a place that help you as an individual. The studio is beautiful and clean. I highly recommend Beyond Pilates!!

    Bright, clean, upbeat, sunny, central - it's a pleasure to come here regularly (and "regularly" has never been part of my fitness vocabulary) and have Ed or any of his staff get you through Life in NYC as toned and healthy as possible. The ever affable Ed incorporates aspects of his various and ongoing studies in nutrition and health as he talks you through a music-filled hour that passes in no time at all.

    The atmosphere in the studio is fantastic. Ed and his team are great. No pressure and lots of encouragement. Katie's personality brightens a room. And she makes good cupcakes, too :) Ed has years of experience in this field, so he knows his stuff. Most of all, he's a human being. He understand desires, limitations, even pain. He's a good guy overall who manages a clean, smooth operating studio. I recommend Beyond Pilates. If you are there long enough, you get invited to those special functions where Katie's cupcakes (or other goodies she makes) are distributed... FREE :) -J

    Beyond Pilates is the best! I've been going to Beyond Pilates for about 2 months now and have noticed a complete change in my body. My core is much more toned and I am a lot stronger. Ed works miracles - I highly recommend his classes, both personal and group. Plus, the classes are so much fun. I wish that they could last for two hours instead of one!

    When I first saw Ed's studio, I was impressed. I asked some tough questions, looking for some stereotypical answers and a high-pressure sales pitch. What I got was beyond my highest expectations. Ed not only knows all the answers, he anticipates my questions, and backs them up with research. This trainer has truly done his homework. Not only that, but his classes begin where you're at, and continue to spur you on to achieve higher levels. He is a treasure in a city of glitz and empty promises. Bravo Beyond Pilates!

    you'll LOVE this pilates class... take it from me... i HATE to exercise, i DETEST a gym, & i LOATHE sweating... this is the ONLY exercise I do and the only one i need... i go twice a week, and have seen a HUGE difference (and have gotten major comments from friends who have seen the difference)... it's not frou-frou pilates - you actually get a work out... and you get to do most of it on your back... what could be better for an exercise-phobe?... ED is the BEST instructor out there - he makes it fun & effective... you'll actually LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING OUT... never thought i'd say that!!!

    I would highly recommend Ed Morand as a personal trainer, I have taken his Pilates classes and I have to say he doesn't just instruct the class but takes the time in making sure it is done correctly so that you are getting the best out of your workout. If you can get results out of attending his classes, I can imagine you would get even more out of a personal training session. Definitely a class worth attending!

    I am a bride to be and heard wonderful things about Pilates so I decided to give it a shot. After 8 wks I lost 14.5LBS just doing Pilates alone (2x/wk), no cardio/strict diet! I feel muscles in places that used to be FAT! The wonderful part of it is, I enjoy it! Beyond Pilates is very clean and beautiful with new equipment. I've worked with Ed and Megan, both wonderful trainers and very patient! Given the 4:1 student:trainer ratio, you get a lot of personal attention during your workout to make sure your form is correct and that you are getting an intense (and FUN) workout.

    I have taken many Pilates classes, gone to various gyms, and I have finally found a class that keeps me motivated. Ed is highly knowledgeable in his craft and is just an all around great instructor. If you ever ask Ed to show you an excercise for any targeted muscle, he's got the perfect answer! His classes are so much fun and the studio is beautiful. The building may be a bit misleading, but once you walk into Ed's door, everything is top notch! Beyond Pilates is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

    I've tried various trainers and the gyms and this is the only place that keep me motivated. The studio is great, with excellent views. Trainers are dedicated and knowledgeable. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

    I've tried many different pilates studios / trainers and I've found Beyond Pilates to be the best by far. Top-notch trainers a clean, new studio friendly members plus a fun, energenic environment has kept me working out consistently for 17 straight months. I've never been in better shape nor enjoyed an exercise program so much.

    I've been working with Ed for several years, and not only is he a most excellent and informed trainer, I have yet to be bored in class. He keeps you moving, challenging you to the next level, and always changes things before your body gets too used to it. So helpful and fun! I'm in the best shape of my life, and feel energized and inspired after every class. I've been able to apply the technique to other activities that I do - from walking down the street, to lifting weights, riding my bike, or rowing! The new studio is really beautiful, too.

    After having doubts about how effective these reformer classes would be, I took the opportunity of the 30 minute free trial class and was delighted when I stepped into the studio. It was big and bright and had an awesome view! Then after working with one of the certified trainers, that actually knew what he was talking about, the staff found a place for me in which I would fit in (a moderate class) and now 15 sessions later, I feel amazing and am really starting to see some results. The workout is not easy, but the enjoyable atmosphere makes it fun. I highly recommend this place. Don't be fooled by the construction downstairs, up on the 16th floor overlooking the Hudson is breathtaking!!!

    Okay Citysearch fans... I am a big user of this site but am always skeptical of the reviews. So, when I was searching for a new place to take pilates and saw the high rating for Beyond Pilates, I did not take it too seriously. Last week though, I took my first class with Ed and it was awesome!!!! He is a fabulous trainer. In fact, I heard that all of their trainers are great. The hours are perfect too. I felt so good after the session and really had fun! I can't wait to go back! This is definitely a workout you will stick with. Enjoy!

Last week though, I took my first class with Ed and it was awesome!!!! He is a fabulous trainer. The hours are great too. I felt so good after the session and really had fun! I can't wait to go back!     Training at Beyond Pilates is amazing! The small group reformer classes are so fun, I never want to miss them. This is the first time I have actually seen results. I would recommend training with Ed to anyone. The direct attention from such a knowledgeable trainer really made a difference in my fitness level.

    I had joined every gym in the city...and then never bothered to go. I hate the gym. I am essentially, lazy. This is the only exercise plan I have ever stuck to & I actually look forward to going to class. My friends & family are convinced I have been abducted by aliens & brainwashed but I promise you, if you try it...you will be addicted. You will never stop going & you will feel better, look better & improve your health.

    i could not do 5 crunches in a row before going to beyond pilates. I hated going to the gym, and hated exercising. But the classes are a lot of fun, and very effective. I now have a toned stomach, a strong back, not so much tension in my shoulders and increased flexibility. I love going to the classes.
