Tue Feb 09 2010Great spot. I lost weight and will continue to go. Love the place and like the vibe.

Mon Jan 18 2010This gym is, to put it simply, awful. The building was clearly once someone's house, and the layout is therefore awkward and strange. A creepy hallway leads you to the various small rooms that house the often broken equipment. And when I say broken, I mean dangerously so. The cable snapped on a shoulder press machine I was using (guess it couldn't handle the 20 lbs I was lifting), and it was obvious that the cable had been close to the breaking point for quite a while. An "out of order" sign was placed on the machine...and remained there for the next three months. I was a member for a year, and in all that time the same treadmill was always "out of order." The place is dirty as well, and just feels seedy and rundown. There is one barbell bench, which means you're screwed if anyone else is using it. People take the free weights and wander away with them, or else the gym just never had complete sets, because finding two 10-pound weights, for instance, was often quite the adventu... Read more

Sat Aug 22 2009Not terrible, not great, not sure if I'd really recommend it. I've been a member here for about a year and a half. The equipment isn't great, but it works. There's also not that much of it...so if you felt like doing some bench presses, there's only 1 bench and you may have to wait for a couple guys to stop talking and finish their set before you can get on there. All of this is okay because it's a small place and the price is reasonable. BUT.... The management is somewhat less than stellar. Was told I'd get free personal training sessions when I joined, and never did. Was also told that if I paid upfront for a full year and ended up having to move, etc., that I would be refunded for my remaining months. Well, guess who's moving, and guess who "doesn't remember that conversation". The owner, Gio, claims to have no recollection of that agreement, so I'll be stuck either driving from the eastside when I want to work out, or just giving up the money I'm "owed" and join a gym ... Sun Dec 07 2008We joined this gym in October of 2006. At first it seemed like a nice, non-pretentious place to work out. As time went on, however, things became more and more run down. Equipment is frequently broken without ever being fixed. You can't find a 12 lb. free weight to save your life. Money-wise it is cheaper than everything else but I guess you get what you pay for. We go to Crunch now and it is much nicer. I won't even go into the problems I had with Petki over money, but her incompetence at management was unbelievable.

Tue Nov 11 2008There really isn't another gym like this place. It has a really friendly vibe and the place is really cool, but not snotty or hollywood-ish. I have been a member for a long, long time - the new owners have done a lot and I heard they are bringing in more new equipment and more new classes - they just added bellydancing and tai chi and I hear kickboxing is coming back. The place also has a boxing ring in the back which is really cool!

Tue Nov 11 2008Despite promises to correct the problem of limited workout space, the owners keep subleasing more and more of it to outside users, leaving almost nothing for the members: as of 11/28/08, the amount of free floor space available regularly for stretching, etc., is down to one cluttered room about eight feet by ten feet. Equipment maintenance has also become a problem. That said, the front desk people remain very friendly and helpful, and prices (at least for longtime members) remain low.

Tue Nov 11 2008I joined this gym a few years back, when I first moved out of the Valley. I chose it for it's reasonable price, and because of it's central location, but I keep renewing every year because it just feels warm and cozy to me. I have belonged to a couple of the giant franchise gyms in the past, and I HATE them! They hard sell you, and as soon as you sign on the dotted line, you're treated like a number, and the staff members couldn't care less about you. At BHHF, you're always treated like an old friend, and they seem to genuinely care about keeping members happy. I've made a lot of buddies there, and sometimes hang around after my workout just to chat! And, it's not a meat market, where you feel like you're being judged. Bottom line... it's a great "homey" atmosphere where you can get a good work out, and I LOVE it!

Mon Nov 10 2008I'm new to the neighborhood and was really happy to find this gym. It's totally low key, down to basics, and that's what I was looking for. It's open 24 hours most days and has some great classes like Yoga and Belly Dancing! There's a boxing ring too, which I'm anxious to try out. Equipment's a bit older but I haven't had any trouble with availability. It's mostly local folks and everyone's just there to work out. No fussy showing off and silly smoothy bars. I used to belong to LA Fitness but I like this much better and it's less expensive. It has a great sort of old-fashioned gym feel that is really unique.

Sun Nov 09 2008Being a transplant from Boston to LA, the workout scene is very different out here. This gym is a breath of New England air as opposed to the big chains. Beautiful people with straight up fitness mentality work and train here. The equipment I've used so far always works and a good sweat is quickly built to burn off the fat. If youre looking for an independent gym with all the things you need to have a good workout, and a great atmosphere, this is the place.

Tue Oct 21 2008I used to work in a small hairsalon inside this gym. I also do animal rescue and have a non-profit organization. I was approached by someone in the gym who is an animal lover and told that the gym wanted to have their annual charity fundraiser dedicated to my rescue organization. It would be a doogie wash day. I was very excited and grateful, since animal rescue is very costly and every penny helps. I had flyers made and printed that stated that all proceeds would go to Paw Parent (my organization). Those flyers were approved by the gym and kept at their front desk. At one point I was even asked to bring more and asked to please help distribute them. I mass emailed the event and the flyer. I also bought cookies and lemonde for the volunteeres. My sister and several of my friends came with their dogs to have them bathed. My sister was about to write a $50 check to my organizaton when she was told that she had to make it out to the gym. When I questioned the woman who was in cha... Read more

Wed Aug 20 2008i have to agree with recent comments. i've been going for about a year, and it's noticeably deteriorated during that time. while it was very basic to start, now things are broken and dirty. (sure, it's cheaper than most places, i'd be happy to pay another slightly more to go somewhere where the machines are in working order and it's cleaned regularly.) for example: currently only 2 of the 5 elliptical machines are working, but only one has an out-of-order sign...which it's had for about two months, and it's still sitting there. the gym also tends to be really hot during the summer, and often the windows aren't even open for ventilation. this is one step above having a treadmill and hand-weights set in your own garage, and two steps below what most people would consider a gym.

Thu Jun 19 2008This might be the worst gym in all of Los Angeles. The machines are awful. They are so old and half are broken. The handle bars are sticky the heart rate sensors don't work on any of the machines. This gym is also really dirty. None of the machines are ever wiped down and the place looks like it gets cleaned maybe once a week. This is definitely a no frills gym. You bring your own towels and have to pay for every class you want to take. The staff is also not helpful and sometimes rude. Pekti, the sales manager is just awful. She has made my experience there so bad that a bunch of my friends are canceling their memberships too. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone.

Thu Jun 12 2008Been a member here for years and am fed up with how bad it is. OK, it's a boutique and no frills (to say the least). I'm fine with that but, all of a sudden, they are now trying to charge as much as other gyms in the area. Yet they never fix anything or make it a better place for members. The staff turns over rapidly because they can't keep anyone good. I'm leaving with a bad taste in my mouth and checking out 24 Hr, Easton and Train, which are nearby. Also, FYI, they have cut their hours on Fridays and are no longer open until 10 and there never was any valet parking - at least not anytime in the past five years.

Sun Jun 01 2008Great place if you like old and often broken equipment. Cheap membership....obviously prohibits machines to be repaired. The gym doesn't seem to be concerned too much with airflow, so fans/circulation are generally a problem. Dodgey suspicious trainers who perform background checks on guests.... 24 hour fitness is a step above this establishment.

Thu Apr 17 2008In Short Despite its exclusive, "New York" style ambience and A-list apeal, this fitness facility has a down-to-earth motto that promises "not just body-building, life-building." Inside the recognizable art-deco building on Beverly Boulevard, the club includes fitness and aerobics studios, a boxing ring for sparring and a pro shop that sells work-out supplements, clothing and equipment. Founded in 1985 by fitness fanatics Lisa and Peter Nault, this gym uses diverse exercise regimens, along with health and nutritional advice to inspire customers to feel better about their bodies. Personal training is available both on site and in-home, and programs use the results of metabolic testing and personality profiling to customize each individual's routine. Aerobics instruction ranges from yoga and Pilates to mixed martial arts, Kung Fu and a class dedicated to derrières called "Beautiful Brazilian Bootys."

Tue Aug 08 2006The benefits of Beverly Hills Health & Fitness is that it is and Anti-Los Angeles approach meaning it is anti-crunch, anti-24hour fitness, and anti-ballys!! Its a down to earth place where people arent showing off and thinking that they are all that and a bag of chips. The members are all diverse: young, old, gay to str8 and in-between, all ethnicities, even celebrity clients that arent looking for a lot of hooplaJust a place to relax and get fit. The classes are great and the employees are not only hot, but very real, nice, sweet, and knowledgeable. Its like LAs best kept Secret!

Sun Apr 30 2006After a long time of searching for a gym I came across the Beverly Hills Health and Fitness Center on Beverly Blvd. As Soon as I walked in I was greeted and givin a tour. The place was clean, up to date, and had a great vibe to it. Not only did they have a great certified personal training staff, they also offered every class I could think of from Body pump to yoga. the prices are great and so are the people. I highly recommend the Beverly Hills Health And Fitness Center.

Tue Mar 21 2006I used to be a member of this gym and hadn't been in in a long time - the new owners have really done an absolutely fantastic job of upgrading the whole place - but the prices are still really great and its still has the friendly neighborhood feel to it. You can tell they really care about the gym and their members. Also, they are doing free Metabolic Testing and its been so helpful!! I am finally reaching my target weight!!!

Sun Mar 19 2006My best friend goes to this gym and when she told me how much she was paying, I totally flipped. The price is amazing considering the location and the classes that they offer. It's 24 hours too! It's a really nice neighborhood feel. Everyone is so nice and I've met a lot of cool people. I even spotted my favorite actress there! I would definitely recommend this gym and they've made so many new improvements since last year.
