Mon Nov 24 2008Here we go again...let's take some real dumbass hillbillys and place them in Beverly Hills!! This seemed to be the schtick of the 1960's. Anyway, this show was funny, with enjoyable characters and silly interactions with sophisticates. Granny and Jed, Jethro and Ellie Mae, were great.

Thu Apr 24 2008from 1960 until 1970 when it went of this air, this show never left the top 3 shows of each year! when it was cancelled in 1970 for cbs going urban, it was number 2! they cancelled a #2 show! wow! anyways, jethro is magnificent, so is jed, and the banker, granny has her moments, and ellie mae as well has her light moments of humor. a great show with many special guest.

Thu Aug 23 2007When I do watch TV, these are the kind of classics that I watch. It is kind of sappy, but very entertaining and decent.

Thu Aug 23 2007A fun show and a classic. Got dumber with each passing year. The interplay between Jed and Jethro was priceless.

Tue May 08 2007What's the big deal? Hillbillies go to Beverly Hills all the time. They're better known as Reality TV Producers.

Tue Feb 27 2007I don't care what the snobs say--this program was fun!
by victor83
Tue Feb 27 2007The black and white episodes were classic. The color episodes were aimed at a seven-year-old audience.

Tue Feb 27 2007Great show and the music by Lester Flats and Earl Scruggs made it even better.Y'all come back now. Hear!

Sun Aug 27 2006Though based on a simple 'fish out of water' concept and lots or repetitive storylines, "The Beverly Hillbillies" still did the job well for what the series was. Of the core cast (i.e. Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Max Baer, and Donna Douglas), Douglas was clearly the weakest on-screen talent, so the plots usually focused on the other three. As stated earlier, these storylines were often repetitive, revolving around Granny's fights with the neighbors, Jethro's foolish slapstick and comedy of errors, and Milburn Drysdale (Raymond Bailey) getting increasingly silly in order to keep the Clampetts from returning home. (The Drysdale character was much more of a straight man in the earlier shows.) Nevertheless, the physical comedy was good for what it was, and the scripts were kept fresh with pop culture references (e.g. Jethro wanting to be a spy after seeing "Goldfinger"). As the series aged, instead of going out when it should have, the producers starting moving the family around for new confl... Read more

Sat Jun 03 2006Case in point that not ALL of the classic old TV shows were good...

Sat May 27 2006Granny and her vittles, Jethro and his appetite for her vittles, Mr Drysdale and his appetite for money made for some great, classic comedy. There were some hot chicks on the show also. No not Ms Jane but Ellie Mae!!

Tue May 02 2006One of my favorites, especially in the first 3/4 of the show's run. The hillbillies were thought of as stupid but always ended up kwowing more than the sophisticated folks of the Beverly Hills neighborhood they lived in. Elly May Clampett was gorgeous.

Thu Apr 27 2006Great idea! Great character developement and very funny writing. Buddie Epson was made for his role. I love the great southern expressions too, like Jed saying about one of Ellie May's boyfriends "Granny that boy is as yeller as the summer squash." And Jed talking about a girl saying "She's as purdy as a red winged black bird atop of a yeller pumkin." Great, clean funny stuff.

Fri Oct 07 2005Granny was so funny.

Mon Oct 03 2005A great show for what it is meant to be, a comedy. If you take this show seriously and study the plot and character development you are thinking to much. Haven't heard anyone ask if "you want some possum pie" on TV since.

Sat Oct 01 2005some episodes were really funny but after a while it seemed like it was just the same thing over and over. jed, granny, jethro, and elly mae were great characters played by talented actors.

Sat May 28 2005Funny, funny, funny. So stupid it was funny. Jethro MADE the show. Max Baer was a very underrated comedian. (On the other hand, I always wanted Cousin Bessie to end up at the bottom of the Ce-ment pond, but I have a real distaste for monkeys, nothing against the show.)

Sun Jul 18 2004Truly one of the best, even if elitist critics didn't like it, at least the regular folks did. Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Max Baer and Donna Douglas were simply outstanding.

Tue Jun 01 2004A fantastic show for the first 3 or 4 episodes. Miss Jane: Jethro, have you looked upstairs yet? Jethro: No - what's up there? Miss Jane: Your suite! Jethro, blushing, So are you. But the show quickly went downhill after that. The only good thing about it was the ever-likeable Buddy Ebsen.

Fri Apr 23 2004Well doggies, Anybody who doesn't like the Beverley Hillbillies should smoke some Crawdads and if you are married have some rumatis medicine. This was the All time classic funny, no foul language, clever show of all time. I'll never forget the Giant Jackrabbit Kangaroo. The giant Hog (Hippo). War of the roses, M.D. = (Mountain Doctor) Fabersham Quirt Manley (Arte Johnston??) I can't remember. cousin Roy, Flatts and Scrugs Double Naught Spy Jethro De Bodine the movie producer Money Man (Drysdale) comic. Thsi was one of the greatest shows ever.

Fri Apr 23 2004i probably liked this better as a kid when this was on. It still can get a laugh from me. A kind of fish out of water show. where some hollbillies who had nothing strike oil and move to Beverly Hills. a greedy banker moves them in next door so they will keep their money in his bank. Jed the sensible one who heads the family, Granny the feisty one who cooks up the vittles and has a hard time adapting to all the new stuff like washing machines etc. Elly May the pretty tomboy daughter who loved critters and can beat up Jethro the dimwit cousin who proudly gradiated from the 6th grade can be dumb at times. and I am sure insulting to those who really come from the hill yet there were some funny shows.

Wed Apr 21 2004This might be the funniest sitcom of all time. At least, it's the one that made me laugh the most. The Clampetts were hilarious in all of the fish out of water scenes, and the humor was never crude or cruel. I still chuckle when I think about the episode where Jed kept Mrs. Drysdale in a bird cage.

Sun Mar 28 2004A wonderful and underrated show. It's really funny. And Granny and Jethro are very funny. And the daughter (Donna Douglas?) is very beautiful. It's a clever show--Paris Hilton's show in reverse.

Sat Mar 20 2004This show was not witty and smart like Seinfeld, and it did not pretend to be. Rather, it was an absurdist farce. Uncle Jed (Buddy Ebsen) was the easygoing foil to nutty and extreme characters like Granny, Jethro, and Mr. Drysdale. Next to Seinfeld, I think this is the funniest sitcom ever.

Wed Feb 25 2004I cringe everytime I see this waste of time on my television set. The show was NOT funny, badly written, the acting was beyond horrible, and the storylines were just awful. And don't even get me started on the show's theme song...good grief ! Very painful...

Fri Jan 23 2004Terrible is right! A whiny wrinkled old lady of a hot-temper with nothing else better to do except to drive everyone in sane until their blue in face, not to mention aggravate viewers away to the point of flipping the channel. This is one over-the-top sitcom that's extremely overrated. Not to mention it's boring and annoying as hell.

Thu Jan 22 2004UNLIKE COUNTRY COUSIN GREEN ACRES, THIS ONE JUST STUNK! ESPECIALLY BAD AS IT APPROACHED, THANKFULLY, THE END! IRENE RYAN, MAX AND DONNA WERE GOOD WITH WHAT THEY WERE GIVEN BUT BUDDY EBSEN JUST BLEW!
by mllelarisa
Sun Nov 02 2003Totally corny humour, but great fun! I don't go out of my way to watch it, but if I'm flipping channels I'll stop and hang out with the Beverly Hillbillies! :)

Sun Oct 12 2003One of the best shows ever. Miss Jane was awesome and Jethro was built.

Fri Oct 10 2003A funny show..liked the old black and white ones the best...I liked the one where they go to the bank and ask to draw out all their money (several million) in cash. Mr. Drysdale has to explain he can't give the money right away..then they ask don't you have it?...and he says I have it but then again I don't...he's trying to explain the money has been invested etc. but they don't understand.
by jamestkirk
Fri Sep 12 2003Possibly the best comedy ever with the best ensemble of characters that stayed together for the entirety of the show's great run. Irene Ryan was so wonderful!

Tue Jul 22 2003Great and fun show

Wed Jun 25 2003This is one of the few worst sitcoms from the 1960's. Talk about an over-the-top little show that often got very annoying with such silly non-sense storylines. "The Beverly Hillbillies" is truly the worst 60's sitcom of All-Time due to what it lacks: modified, well-written storylines that ring true, great acting & characters, ect.

Thu May 22 2003A real gem had 9 great years that a still great after all this time.

Mon Apr 28 2003It's so bad it's good. Jethroe Bodine was truly a character for the ages.

Mon Mar 31 2003Superb! Ellie May Clampett was one of the most profound, complex and multi-dimensional characters of all time. Well-written with subtle plot twists and sophisticated humor.
