Wed Jul 01 2009One of the all time greats. Belongs in best 3 of all time. In addition to her acting ability, she had an amazing emotional connection.

Sun May 04 2008Just amazing. In all the movies she acted in I am almost spellbound. those eyes and facial expressions were priceless, from dramas to classic horror she was one of a kind. That era in cinema is sadly over.

Sun Mar 02 2008Don't let the anger induced negativity from her daughter's (B.D. Hyman) book be a majority factor in your opinion of Bette Davis. B.D. claims that her mother lived in a fantasy world of her own design, well thats exactly what she herself has done with her own take on Christianity and fear tactics of the end time. Mrs. Hyman claims to talk to God on a regular basis and says she knows so much that if she were to tell a person whom isnt as educated in the Word like her they would think she is crazy...she certainly isn't off to a good start there. She also pronounces God has called her to teach God's starving lambs, I seem to remember Jesus saying in Matthew 23:8-10 "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren...And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ." Sure thats God your talking to there B.D.?

Mon Jan 08 2007Massachusetts native Bette Davis was another great star of the golden era of Hollywood. A tough no nonsense broad- who took no BS from no one-ever. 'All about Eve' my goodness she was a card- and in the dark 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane- yikes! And oh yes- the legendary cigarette! Loved it....

Sun Oct 08 2006Very good in all of her films - a classic and legendary actress. I know I wouldn't have liked her in real life though.

Thu Sep 14 2006She learned her craft and worked her heart out doing good work. Her movies were quite fascinating. Just finished reading "My Mother's Keeper" which her daughter wrote and it has been interesting to know what she was really like in her relationships.

Tue Nov 08 2005If Hollywood were a gigantic jewelry box, Bette Davis would be it's biggest and brightest diamond. She was truly an American Treasure. It doesn't get any better than this folks!

Tue Aug 03 2004Miss Bette Davis was a great actress. She KNEW she was, that's why she considered herself a character actress. But, she never forgot that she was a STAR. One of her key acting achievements that many of her fans have not seen, was her 1952 protrayal of Margaret Elliot, has-been movie goddess in THE STAR. What a harrowing performance. First offered to Joan Crawford, who turned THE STAR down flat, Davis read the script and seized the moment. In this film, Davis did everything but HIT THE CEILING! She smoked cartons of cigarettes, slapped faces, violently threw her sister and brother-in-law out of her apartment, was thrown into jail - drunk with the screaming meanines and, subsequently locked out of her apartment for non payment of rent. Homeless. The result is a tragic but realistic look at an actress who hits rock bottom in Hollywood. Davis, presenting herself in the worse light of any of her contemporaries, deservedly received her ninth Oscar nomination for the part. The movie ... Read more

Fri Jul 23 2004Even though Bette excelled at playing bitches, she was also quite good at playing more sympathetic characters in movies like Marked Woman, Now, Voyager, and The Great Lie. She had such intensity and had more range than most actresses of her time. Definitely the best dramatic and entertaining actress of her time. Who can forget Margo Channing in All About Eve? Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy night!

Sun Dec 21 2003Probably one of the greatest actresses, ever. Loved her in Now, Voyager, and All About Eve and was truly terrified of her in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? She was rumored to be a very difficult actress on the set, but she was actually fighting for her artistic integrity. Warner Brothers put her in some movies that were very mediocre, and because of the terms of her contract, she could not get out of doing some of these stinkers. I don't blame her for being mad. Give 'em hell, Bette!

Fri Dec 19 2003A truly great bitch actress with great depth and sensitivity, range and fire. Very sexy in a hard edged kind of way. She had a voice that could make your skin crawl, if she felt like it. They don't make them like this one anymore.

Tue Aug 26 2003The women was a bitch, but that girl could act. So i can't hate sometimes in life you have to be a bitch to get what you want

Sat Jan 04 2003My all time favorite movie of her's is "Now Voyager". My second favorite is "Pocketful of Miracles. She is by far the best actress ever. She steals the scenes from everyone else!

Mon Nov 25 2002I can't find enough words to say about this vixen truly gifted with acting prowess...Sure she may be larger than life and monomaniacal, but it was her persona and the greatest role she played was herself, and she acted it out to the hilt!I've only watched a couple of her films and a documentary about her, I just wish I could watch more of her. I'd like to see her life on film also, portrayed by SUSAN SARANDON and Drew Barrymore as the young Bette Davis!!!

Tue Apr 30 2002This woman was great, and I loved her in "Jezebel". I loved that she had nerves of steel!

Fri Sep 21 2001Bette Davis is a genuine Hollywood legend, and would be one of our greatest actresses for 'All About Eve,' 1950, alone. But luckily, she made many excellent films. She gave two of her greatest screen performances for director William Wyler, in 'The Letter,' 1940, and 'The Little Foxes,' 1941. A great, great star.

Thu Aug 23 2001Bette Davis was probably the greatest actress ever, she could play every type of role and do it so well!

Sat Aug 11 2001This woman was amazing...there was no kind of role that she couldn't do well. Possibly the most talented actress I've ever seen.

Mon Jul 30 2001Bette Davis is my all time favorite classic actress, and my favorite movie starring her is "Jezebel". I always looked up to her when I was younger because she spoke her mind. I was very shy, and she was inspiring! I hppe girls today will look to her as a role model. She has more to say than Brittany Spears or Christina Aguilera, and she says it better!!!

Fri May 04 2001Bette Davis once said; "Until you're known in my profession as a monster, you're not a star!" Perhaps that one quote summed up Hollywood in the 30's and 40's. Perhaps Bette knew better than most actresses at that time that to be able to control their own careers, they had to be considered bitches. She has played so many differrent roles from the sweet spinster Charlotte (Now, Voyager) to the devious Regina (The Little Foxes). Of course, she gave those roles and the eighty plus others what they called for (sweetness, fear, meanness), but one thing never wavered: her strength. On the screen, it seemed as if no matter who she was standing next to, Bette Davis always stood taller!

Sat Apr 07 2001Bette David has had one great career. She has been in tons of movies, usually playing a devilish character, and she plays her roles very, very well.

Wed Mar 14 2001What made her great was that she played ALL types of rolls, not just the ones that 'flattered' her.

Sat Feb 24 2001Wonderful ~ She made "All About Eve" a treasure.

Thu Feb 22 2001This woman was a powerhouse of talent! She redefined "Movie Star" with her eccentric beauty and fearless determination. Some classified her Bitch, because she stood up for what she believed in, I classify her as one of the stepping stones to what women are today. My Favorite movie is ALL ABOUT EVE, I bought Bette's portrayal of Margo, insecure, frightened, and fearless all wrapped up into one complex character that you couldn't help but root for!

Sun Jan 21 2001In my opionion, she was one of the greatest actresses that ever lived. I could watch "All About Eve" and "Mr. Skeffington" all day long. A talent long remembered and greatly missed.
by princess27
Sat Jan 20 2001Bette Davis was the greatest! I'd like to give her more than 5 stars. She could play any role and wasn't afraid of the non-glamorous roles, remember "Of Human Bondage"? Whoever rated her a one star doesn't know great talent when they see it. I see they didn't leave a comment. I agree with Cebra totally.
by the_dustin
Thu Jan 04 2001Her films will live on for a long time. Not only one of the greatest actresses of the twentieth century, she defined the words "Diva" and "Moviestar".
by johnny_roulette
Wed Jan 03 2001I absolutely loved her in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? & All About Eve, but she loses a star for the twilight years, movies such as The Nanny & Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. I guess maybe she needed the money, but it's a damn shame to see someone once great playing in The Nanny. She was a great actress and a very strong individual...she just didn't finish strong.
by pepe1958
Mon Jan 01 2001No great beauty, but a powerhouse of an actress, with a personality so dominating you can't take your eyes off of her. See Now, Voyager and All About Eve.

Fri Dec 29 2000I'm totally agree with Cebra.
