Now this place is a total nightmare. Apart from the horrible taste of food, this place is dirty, unhygenic, I am not sure how Food dept is allowing such resturant. They served me a rotten fish.. it was smelling like hell.. I am not sure if they ever washed the spoons/plates/napkins... In short go here if you still don't believe me and then you experience the hell by yourself...‎

Balanced spices, light sauces and crisp vegetables. Delightfully warm and colorful atmosphere, friendly service. The response was most pleasant when I requested a substitute for wheat flour and to use oil rather than butter. He was able to make the Piajoo with chick pea flour and a cornmeal Poori. The Rui Macher Tel Piazzi was delicious! I will definitely eat here again.

A true delightful experience: friendly, cheerful and down-to-earth reception. Tasty, exotic flavours served hot even when delivered and at very reasonable prices. Whenever I come to Boston/Cambridge, I absolutely must dine at Bengal Cafe.

After reading all the wonderful reviews, my two friends and I couldn't wait to try it out. The restaurant is very small, only six tables, and it is apparent that it is family run. Our appetizer seemed as if it was sitting out for a while, but was tasty non-the-less. I ordered to vegetable biryani which was good, but nothing too unique compared to other Indian restaurants I have been to. The service was quick and wait-staff very friendly. Our bill, with appetizers, entrees, and dessert, came out to only $21 (be sure to print out the home page of their website to get 20% off)!

I came to the Bengal cafe with a couple of friends and it was delicious. The service was great and so was the food. I had the chicken curry and a friend had the chicken byriani and both were excellent. The prices are very reasonable and students get a discount, which was nice for us. This restaurant is very vegetarian friendly and the firmi (rice pudding) dessert is to die for!

In Short For those unfamiliar with the cuisine of Bangladesh, it is quite similar to Indian. Bengal Cafe serves home-style Bangladeshi food, made using fresh ingredients. Authentic dishes include mutton (goat) curry, shrimp korma and sweet-and-sour eggplant. A filling buffet is served daily until 3pm ($6.99 on weekdays, $8.99 on weekends).

We brought two tired kids to Bengal Cafe on the hottest day of the year (our car's thermometer read 102F), and had a great time. The staff are very friendly and great with kids. Everything we had was fresh-tasting in contrast with my usual experience in Indian restaurants. (Granted, there are many good Indian restaurants that are exceptions to that comment). We tried the Fuchka appetizer, which was both fun (fill the tiny pooris) and tasty. The Began Bharta was great, not the stewy version we've had elsewhere. Our four year old loved the Keema Paratha -- Bengladeshi pizza, that reminded us of Armenian Lakmejune. For a main dish we tried the Boot Gosht, a stewed beef dish with lentils that was quite savory. Next tme we'll sample the fish dishes. We liked the Firni for dessert, an unusually flavorful rice pudding. Overall ratings: food: excellent atmosphere: nice, a great addition to the neighborhood service: excellent A great addition to our dining choices in North Cambridge,... Read more

The staff here was very friendly, helpful, and professional. The food and atmosphere was very homey. Unfortunately, my husband and I found our food to be quite average.

We tried borhani, tehari and halim. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent, and staff friendly. We absolutely liked it. Highly recommended for savoring the cuisines of Bangladesh/Bengal region of India, which is quite different from the rest of India.

This food is great! I was expecting Indian food, but Bengali food is very different. It's hearty but not-overspiced or oily, as some Indian food can taste. Each dish I tried was delicately balanced and pleasing. I've been back several times to fuel my addiction...it's my new comfort food.

What a find!!! This place has a huge brunch at a great price--far cheaper than mst Indian restaurants. And the hospitality is just like home. The place gets packed but they never run out of food. For those afriad of too many spices, don't worry, it's bengali food so it's mild.

I felt like I was in a small, beautiful, peaceful place with mouth-watering food delicately spiced. The staff was courteous and friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant dinner. The check was prompt and surprisingly light. I will go back again and again, the lunch buffet is fantastic.

They have really yummy homestyle Bangaldeshi food. Their Goat Curry, Chicken Biryani and Kebab Roll is best.
