Bee Gees

Maybe the best pop group ever. If you consider the sheer number of decades they had songs on the charts. Most groups are lucky to make three years or so.  I like their music but I have to admit they are best one song at a time. No albums please. A little too sweet for frequent consumption.

The only Australian(s) cooler than the Bee Gees is the Foster's beer can...and Yahoo Serious, seriously.

Probably the worst successful band in history. I can't think of anything they did that I can stomach.

Great band, I love all of their songs from the 60's to the 90's.

I admit I loved the Bee Gees, including some of the lesser known stuff like "Tragedy" - they were locked into the disco category for so long but they were around far before disco hit the scene. Disco just catapaulted them onto the scene with "Saturday Night Fever".

This group is responsible much of the best music of the late '60s and early '70s and deserves not to be remembered only as a disco group.

You've got to be kidding me. . .strictly comedic material at this point in pop music history. . .

Call me crazy--while I do like their early offerings (especially Message), their later 70's stuff is the BOMB.

Instrumental in spawning the abomination that is disco music. Irritating high pitched vocals, Godawful ballads from their early days like the dreary Massachusetts. Saved from a 1 star by the reasonable funky Jive Talkin.

A great band! Their 60's beatlesque, maudlin, soft melodies were brilliant. They also had a pretty intense psychadellic song called "Every Christian Lion Heart will Show You." In the 70's they went funk/disco and came out with some real gems. Nights On Broadway, Jive Talkin, and Stayin Alive just to name a few. They did kind of fall apart in the late 70's-early 80's with the horrendous song tragedy and that Barbara Streisand duet. Overall, they were great and they are deserving of the rock HOF!

Though their disco era stuff was ok, the early and mid 70's was when they were at their best. Their music had a little darker side to it then.

Well the ratings say it all - people either love them or hate them. I happen to love them. And I am so happy to see all the young people who are now into them. How can you resist moving your feet when you hear those opening guitar rifts to Saturday Night Fever. oh mama!!! I am just so glad that I was in my early 20s when they were hot of the press and I could dance, dance, dance all night to the Bee Gees, little bro Andy Gibb, and Donna Summer. I still love them all.

3.5 stars for the early Beatlesesque hits, 2.5 for subsequent material. Barry Gibb was a good lyricist , but overall this group varied widely in terms of quality.

Anyone who doesn't admit to liking something that these geniuses produced is a liar. If they had never produced a cut themselves, they would still arguably be the most prolfic writers ever. More people in music owe their entire careers/inspiration to these guys than can be named. Liking them now may be considered ridiculous, but I don't care. I love their work.

The song Words alone gives them a 5 star rating in my book- one of the top ten groups of all time

Some of the best music ever produced. Their music is deep howerver, and hard to visualize, but to the trained ear, it is simply divine. Lot of levels in their music that everone cant understand. Also helped start many of the modern day genres: Rap, Rock, even some country. Very nice.

much ridiculed today, but one of the most popular acts in history. Good dance tunes, a couple of surprisingly nice slow tunes. How Deep Is Your Love one of the best slow jams of all time.

What a terrible band this is if you don't believe me watch Sgt. Peppers .. the movie they are awful. The entire disco thing is enough to make any one dispise these three and the terrible screeching noise they make is enough to send shivers up a dead mans spine. I can find nothing redeeming about the Gee Bees. Sorry one of them passed but the other two plan to go on WHY?

It's their overwhelming influence and irresistible talent over 5 decades that explains why you love them or you hate them. And those who hate them it's just a reaction, they simply can't stand all this strong love around .

Masters of reinvention.

Any person or group that has had hits in five decades certainly has a gift. I am fortunate enough to have listened to their songs throughout this time frame. Not only do I find their own recondings fantastic, but also the music they have written for other performers such as Streisand, Dolly and Kenny, Diana Ross, etc. They are a true talent. I am so sorry Mo is gone as Barry and Robin will miss his imput and talent.

Ignore all the reviews that give this band less than 5 five. They all need to think again.

admit it all---you liked some of their stuff

There are some great songs in the Bee Gees catalogue that I love to hear again and again. Their voices are fantastic, too. I can't understand some of these spiteful reviews on this site. For example there's one guy who says that the Bee Gees were bandwagon jumpers, which is rubbish. They mainstreamed disco music for the first time when it was on it's way out! For a group that can sell over 250,000 records and CD's, they MUST be good, as there is no other way to tell that a group is good otherwise someone's success on the charts, otherwise it's just someones opinion. Also, The Beatles were prepared to do ANYTHING for a hit record. They changed their style from rock 'n' roll to pop ie: She Loves You, Can't Buyt Me Love, I Want To Hold Your Hand. Need I say more? John Lennon even said he'd go on stage in a gorilla suit if it made him a star! That's not to say that I don't like the beatles cause I do, I just think that a lot of cr*p like this has been written about them.

They were definately the kings of disco, and I rather enjoyed their disco music myself. It wasn't my favorite, but I do enjoy it occasionally. I would give them 5 stars, but I was never really impressed with how they treated their younger brother, Andy Gibb. They were really never there for him as much as they needed to be. Or as I have read over the years. I guess it could just be speculation. But I am going on what I have read.

Any commentary concerning the Bee Gees (aka the Brothers Gibb) always stirs differing emotions among the listening public, running the gambit of retro, loathing, passion, or nostalgia. Like the group's one time contemporary ABBA, they are the artist everyone loves to hate or (perhaps) hates to love, the ugly, yet interesting blind date who has you evading your friends in public. They had some beautiful vocal harmonies and pretty good pop sensibilities, but they were still a very mediocre group. I am aware that they weren't just a disco outfit, that their catalogue ran through several styles. The Beatles also changed styles several times over their decade-long career, but they were original and innovative and influential. They dictated the musical trends. The Bee Gees, on the other hand, were mere bandwagon-jumpers who would do anything to stay on the charts, and they never made any innovations at all throughout their 30+ year career. Nice voices though, and that one guy looks like he should be on the cover of some boddice-ripper paperback.

I am astonished with the amnount of negative comments that have been written about this amazing group. I don't know many that can say the've been around for over forty years and are still writing hit songs. There's one Beatlemaniac on this board which seems to enjoy putting them down and thinks everything the Beatles did was great! And thinks Smallville is a great programme, actually it sucks!! McDonald's make good hamburgers, 2001 (the inspriation behind Star Wars) is only worth three stars. Madonna, sound garden and Marilyn Manson suck. Wbat sort of useless idot is he. They can go on making hit records without Maurice Gibb and they'll be successful and good luck to them. People who think the Beatles are great and nothing else shouldn't be allowed to rate other pop groups because they don't know anything about modern pop music. Freak!

I have to give some credit to the Bee Gees for their early work before their disco days. It is simply my opinion (one in which I've been bashed for several times) that their disco music isn't good.

A REALLY GREAT BAND ALTHOUGH I'M SURE MANY WILL DISAGREE. THEY WENT THRU EVERY STYLE OF MUSIC. ALTHOUGH THEY WEREN'T LEADERS IN ANYTHING, THEIR BODY OF WORK STANDS UP AS CRAFTMANSHIP. THEIR ALBUM 'ODESSA' IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT.

The Bee Gees are one of the most wonderful groups ever. I've been listening for nearly 30 years. All their CDS from the 80's thru "This Is Where I Came In Are" are filled with gems. Maurice kept their sound contemporay. I hope Robin and Barry record together again even though Maurice has passed. My life has been and always will be enhanced by their music.

I only rate good as they had manay highs and lows on their carerer.The music was very good and one of the most over looked bands of their times.

The best cover I've ever heard was Slobberbone doing "To Love Somebody" on their Slippage CD.

The Bee Gee's music is timeless. From pop/rock to disco, their sound is unique. Their song writing, harmony and ability to entertain ranks at the top.

as far as I am concerned these guys have nothing to prove anymore...they have been around since not since the 70's or 60', but the 50'....singing...they wrote songs for lots of popular artists..who should be thankful they did..The best thing they have done is managed to create a life for themselves and their families. They don't act like super stars...They are regular guys who just happen to sing and write songs for a living...In 100 years fron now teachers will be talking about music genius and Barry Gibb will right up there...with Straus, Bach..etc...

This rating stuff ultimately comes down to personal taste. The Bee Gees were very good a certain kinds of music, mainly disco and what we used to call "whimper rock" -- which made them a great band, if you like that sort of thing. I do not happen to.

The bee gees are gifted people. There talent is unspeakable. They have been around since the sixties and write, produce and then perform. That is real talent. Today I am deeply sad over the death of Maurice Gibb. My deepest sympathy goes out to Robin and Barry gibb. Maurice gibb will never be forgotton.May he rest in peace. The Bee Gees are the greatest.
