With the possible exceptions of Duran Duran and Dep Leppard, the most crucial entity to contribute to the cable network's success.

Beavis and Butthead was a classic MTV show. It involved an up and coming talent, animator Mike Judge of King of the Hill fame, was a show that was controversial and parents didn't want their kids watching, and it played music videos. Beavis and Butthead were funny because of how they portrayed the dimwitted metal-heads, but it also had a lot of other memorable characters. Mr. Anderson was the character that would evolve into Hank Hill, Daria's character first appeared on B&B; in some sense, and the hippie teacher who always tried to get Beavis and Butthead involved was hilarious.

Probably the funniest thing I ever saw on MTV.On the surface,it's just two boneheads not unlike kids you remember from Jr.High School...but actually it's a brilliant parody and biting social commentary.Their reviews of bad hair bands were marvelously merciless!

MTV has been on the forefront of a number of cutting edge trends in television. I think you would have to include Bevis and Butthead in that group - has to have been one of the inspirations for South Park, I would think.

By far the best thing ever aired on MTV, honestly I don't think I've watched the station though in the last 10 years.
