This was by far the worst experience I had with any business of any kind....I found out the hard way that this is just a local car rental place started by an auto mechanic who obviously needs a lesson in professionalism and customer service. If you think the price you get on the website is the price you pay, think again. The price I had quoted to me from my internet reservation was doubled at the time of the reservation due to all the "add-ons" they had "forgot" to mention. I was so desperate and late for my meeting in San Diego that I just paid what they asked (which unfortunately is what they probably hope for in all their customers). These guys are scam artists of the worst kind: Scam #1: I had reserved a compact car from Friday to Sunday on the internet two weeks in advance. When I got to the rental place, I was told that they didnt have any compact cars left and that they would have to give me an intermediate car, but also charge me the extra price for it. I had Basic lined up through my dodgy hotel. I was driven miles away from the hotel (I was staying in Santa Monica). They did the pick up for free but then demanded I pay $40 to be dropped back! They processed the amount on my credit card without my permission. When I declined the lift back and asked for a refund they promised to refund it to my credit card but failed to do so. I recommend people avoid Basic at all costs

Among the numerous times I rented in this place, you typically get old cars with 40K mileage. Sometimes the engine light are on. Even worse, the price is not cheap any more. The stingy owner raised the price recently to get more with their crappy cars!

Also check Trip Advisor online for more complaints from angry customers. This place bills customers for TWO DAYS when they only rented for one day...apparently they have a regular pattern of this criminal fraud. The cars are not even cleaned between customers. The gas tank was less than half full. The engine warning light came on! And stayed on! The manager hits on female customers, putting exreme pressure to accept his offers of rides home and ride to his sloppy and dirty office. BBB rates Basic Car Rental as F. Need I say more?
