Renee, my Jack Russell, has boarded at Barks for many years. We use them at least twice a year. Rates are great. Staff is very concerned and friendly. When we go there Renee is very excited to stay and does really well for a hyper dog. I am very pleased with the care that she gets. They call to remind me to bring her in at the right time. if I need to change the date or time, that I am picking her up I just call them and adjust. Cannot comment on the grooming, since we don't use it. She went to Doggie Day Care for the 1st time last month. We were concerned about her being agressive toward other dogs and they were very careful to watch her to make sure that she did fine. Renee and I have been very pleased with the care and attention that we receive.

When we first rescued our high-energy BostonAuzer (Boston Terrier / Std. Schnauzer mix) I took her to four different places to look for a good boarding kennel. Three of the places she didn't even want to go in the door. When we got to Barks she was excited from the start. All the dogs were out front playing and she couldn't wait to get out there. It is now a year and a half later and Hailey goes for daycare at least once a week and boards there about once a month. The big dogs are separate from the small ones, and they pay special attention as necessary. I have never had any concerns about Hailey's well being and she still loves to go. The staff always makes us both feel very welcome. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a place where they can be assured their furry friend is well cared for.

We've been taking our boxers to Barks for the last couple of years and they have been consistently awesome. Barks 5th Avenue has every quality you look for in a boarding facility; super clean and a super friendly staff. We know our dogs are well taken care of while we are out of town and that they are having a good time at doggy day care.

Since moving to Houston, Barks 5th Ave. has been our choice for grooming and boarding. The facility is very animal friendly and the staff is always extremely polite and welcoming (when we tell Coko and Frankee they are going to see Ms. Patty their ears perk up...LOL). I have and will continue to recommend Barks 5th Ave. to all who will listen. Thanks to the Penny, Roxanne and the entire staff for the care given to our additional family members...

The staff members are very friendly and know you and your pet by name. The facilities are well maintained--in other words, clean and smells nice upon entering the building. The building is ample for both large and small dogs. I have been taking my dog to Barks 5th Avenue, for several years now, and feel I made a good choice for my pet, a Dalmatian. C. Williams

Have used this place many times. The last time we used them for boarding, they brought my dog out for me to take home COVERED IN URINE. I was so upset- not knowing how long he had been like that. This was the THIRD CHANCE that I gave this place. Several months ago, I was TALKED TO HORRIBLY by the owner of Barks (PENNY). She talked to me in such a rude way about my using the coupons that SHE made available. I couldn't ever figure out how I was abusive using coupons that she had available online and also in mail outs. I was the only customer that had ever been abusive with the coupons-per Penny??? I did not feel very appreciated as a customer and was so upset that she used such strong words with me and never tried to understand my point of view. I was completely blown away by this. Before that, there was a time that they called to let me know my dog was ready to be picked up from grooming but they had the wrong dog so I had to wait for a while. I live too far to go home. They... Read more

My vet recommended Barks 5th Avenue for grooming my very sensitive large breed dog. We have been very pleased with the care and attention given. The results were fantastic! Highly recommend both the grooming and training services. When we adopted 2 rescued Great Pyranees, we began having trouble with the female, Sasha, our son's dog. She had been returned by 2 previous owners for discipline problems as we soon learned first hand. After 3 weeks in Training Boot Camp the difference has been astounding. She no longer jumps up or charges going into the house but waits until we tell her she can come in. We really appreciate the excellent care they have taken with our pets. All the staff have been patient and helpful.

My dog had been in daycare on a daily basis for years and when I moved to Houston I tried several but was unhappy with all daycare centers I tried. I came to Barks 5th Avenue on the recommedation of a friend. I am extremely happy with the staff . They treat Spike like he was their own. I can tell he is happy there because he will go to certain staff members when I hand him over to them and kiss them in front of me (not like him at all!!) It is a great relief to know he is well taken care of and loved when I need to be out of town or just need help taking care of him for a few hours a day. The facility is clean and spacious. I would higly recommend Barks 5t Avenue to anyone! I would not take him anywhere else even though there are probably a dozen closer to my home. Judy Johnson

We adopted our dog from the SPCA about 4 months ago. She is a very sweet, medium-sized, 1 year old terrier mix but was really much more than we could handle. No matter how many books I read and dog training shows I watched, I could not control her. She jumped on people - especially small children, barked incessantly, escaped from her crate on a regular basis, chewed on things she wasn't supposed to, went absolutely wild at the sight of other dogs, crept upstairs when she knew she wasn't allowed, and was an absolute nightmare on a leash. Although we loved her and knew she had a lot of potential, her chaotic behavior caused us to realize that we needed to seek professional help. Although, admittedly, I was skeptical about ANYBODY's ability to help our dog (many families had told me that other obedience classes didn't really work for their dogs) , we left her in Wendy's very capable hands for the three week bootcamp. I have had her home for two days now and have to say that I imp... Read more

We were initially referred to Barks 5th Avenue for grooming our new puppy by our vet. With that recommendation, we took our puppy, Dixie, to Barks for grooming. When we got there we observed Penny Mahon in a training session. We had been taking Dixie to another trainer, but were not satisfied with her/our progress. So we waited around until the training session was finished and visited with Penny about training and her philosophy of training. Immediately we sensed her love of dogs and passion for their care. We believe she really has a “gift” when it comes to caring for dogs, any dog. Not only did we leave Dixie to be groomed, we signed up for training. When we went for our first training session, we observed people picking up their dogs from Doggie Day Care. Being a talker, I began to ask the people picking up their dogs why they used Doggie Day Care. It did not take too many conversations to begin to see the benefits its benefits. Dixie loves Doggie Day Care; just the ment... Read more

I have two very active dogs, if they are not heavily excersized they destroy anything they get near. My wife and I walk them daily and yet they continue to bite everything. We came across this place online and decided to give it a try. The daycare service is great, my dogs come home tired and do not destroy anything the following day. Not only is it a treat to have the dogs tired enough to not be desructive, its also great to be greeted by a very friendly staff who is knowledgeable. They do have grooming services as well but I have not used any aside from the occasional nail trimmings. I highly reccomend this place to everyone.

My senior dog has gone to doggie daycare since we adopted her last Christmas. She loves to go there. They take care of her special needs as a senior dog. The owner saw a tiny lump on my dog and recommended we take her to a vet. To me it looked like a little bump from a bug bite. I probably would have missed it altogether if she had not pointed it out. We took her to the vet and unfortunately it was cancer. Well, I can say that after 2 surgeries and chemo, my dog is now cancer free. I don't know where we would be today if we didn't catch it as early as we did. Thank you Barks owner and staff for taking such good care of my dog when I can't be there. I highly recommend this place. They have great staff who pay attention to the dogs, have clean facilities, and have both indoor and outdoor play areas. But mostly, they CARE for your dog. We did one training session with the owner. She was excellent. She used positive training. She focused on exactly the issue we wanted, a... Read more

I definitely reccomend using their doggie daycare services, it has been a wonderful option for me so that I don't feel so bad about leaving my dogs at home alone during the day. I know that my dogs love to be there. One of my dogs was terrified of car trips when I first got her, but after just a few trips over to Barks, she is excited to get in my car in the morning. Not only is Barks a great place to drop off your energetic puppy for the day with daycare (definitely is nice so that you can have a quite night or two), but they really care a lot about the dogs. A little over a month ago they had a few dogs available for rescue, and I picked up a new member of my family there. My new little Jane has been a pleasure!

All of the staff treat my dogs as if they were their own. I have showed up unexpectedly many times, always to find that they are giving special attention to my dogs to soothe their anxieties. Also, they have the same good people working there year after year, so no staff turnover. One of my dogs is terrified of storms, a lady named Roxanne always takes him into her office and lets him sit with her when it storms, untill he calms down; they never leave him alone in the crate when he is scared.

My Danes Apollo and Bunker have been going to Barks since around six months old. They love going and when I pick them up they are happy and you can tell they always have a blast. Penny then started helping me with a few training issues and I could tell she knows her stuff. I am comfortable leaving the boys to play while I do all the necessary chores and errands that a working mom needs to do on her day off. I would recommend Barks highly to anyone who wants their dogs to experience disneyland while you are elsewhere.

This place is special to me because they are reasonably priced, gave me personal attention and really took the time to meet my needs with my new family member. When I called I talked directly to the trainer, Wendy, and she was super helpful to explain all my options. Her excitement to work with me and my dog "Lucy" was amazing! I have continued to go there because I know no matter what service I need, boarding, grooming, or obedience training, I know I will be taken care of tremendously!!! I highly recommend this establishment to any new dog owner! They are Top Dog in my book!

I have a 7 month old, well bred, working German Shepherd that is super smart and energetic. She has been going to Bark's day care since she was 8 weeks old. I can't begin to tell you how much she loves going! Her tail starts wagging when we start the drive to Barks and when I drop her off it is still wagging! Wendy did basic obedience training with her @ 5 months of age. Rosalie is a big dog and without the manners of basic obedience, home life with her would be miserable. Rosalie is a delight to live with and should we decide to take it to the next level with training, I know we will follow the lead from Barks. All of this is wonderful, but I need to share how personally marvelous this place is. My grandmother died rather unexpectedly in late August. I needed to board Rosalie as the drive home is over 700 miles. I called Barks late that Saturday afternoon and they answered with " How soon can you get her here?" I dropped Rosalie off and was on my way to Alabama within 3 hours of gett... Read more

We have a Husky and our vet told me that he was in need of training or he was going to hurt one of us. We agreed and I said I had hear about "Barks 5th Avenue" and another company. He strongly recommended "Barks". He said if anyone could put Sitka in his place it would be Penny and her staff. Wendy and Penny warned me that Husky's are very hard headed and they would do their best with him. They did better than their best and the vet can't believe how obedient he is; in fact, he asked if it ws the same dog! Penny is even helping me with Sitka's "Invisible Fence" training, and once again he is doing GREAT! Sitka has had some health problems and Barks has been very understanding and helpful to us while Sitka is in "Day Care". Sitka sees "Barks" as a great place to play and loves to go to "Day Care". I have had several neighbors who can't believe he is the same dog and one lady who has a Husky mix took it for training somewhere else and she said "it just didn't take". We are le... Read more

Our two dogs have been boarded several times and are always happy to go to Barks! We get into the parking lot and they are running to the door! The daycare is wonderful and our dogs love it! We have also had the pleasure of going through "Doggie Boot Camp" with them both and are more than pleased with the results-they are well mannered and very obedient! Penny was wonderful to us and was very thorough in our training as well! The staff is wonderful and very helpful. They are loving and friendly and always have a smile for our "boys". The facility is always clean and offers such a wide variety of services, it is truly a one stop shop! We would recommend Barks to anyone who wants their pets home away from home to be a great one!

I have two dogs. Rudy and Cooper. They are groomed at Barks 5th. They always do a wonderful job. Cooper is a smiling yorkie-poo. When he is at Barks he smiles all the time (because he loves it there). The trainer at Barks suggested that I bring him in for smile training (to smile on command) I took him in for one training session. He now smiles on command. everyone gets such a kick out it. All of the staff at Barks really love dogs and it shows. I recommend Barks to all of my friends for training and grooming.

My wife and I have been taking our two Llasas to Bark's Fifth Avenue since before they became Bark's Fifth Avenue. They groomed and cared for our first Llasa for almost 14 years and have been doing the same for our latest baby for the past 4 years. We were thrilled when they began offering their "doggie day care" at their current location and our dog just loves going there. He gets so excited when we tell him where we are taking him. Therefore we highly recommend Bark's Fifth Avenue to anyone that wants outstanding grooming and groomers/handlers that care about your pets.

I've taken my two dogs, a shih tzu and a shar pei/boxer mix to other groomers but they can't touch Barks 5th Avenue. They have a great facility, clean and well decorated. You can see the dogs in doggie daycare are having a great time. The staff is very nice and they are all accomodating to time schedules. If you're looking for a great place to take your dogs this is it - I highly recommend Barks 5th Avenue.

Penny and Wendy put their heads together when our son who had just purchased his first home wanted to adopt his first dog. He was looking for a dog that would blend well with our existing pets, as he planned to visit us often. Together they came up with Rush , a beautiful , but very shy Border Collie in need of a loving home. They called her a "corner dog" since she was most comfortable in her corner unless someone had a frisbee! We all fell in love with her and as she became used to her new home her personality really blossomed. To help Cody and Rush bond they went to Doggie Day Care and were slowly introduced to new friends. It has been almost a year now and we can't believe how she has blossomed. Everyone at Barks has been so helpful in making this a positive experience, from greeting them when they arrive, carefully selecting dogs that they would be comfortable with to mainstreaming them into the pack at Barks and of course tossing an occasional frisbee! We can't thank t... Read more

Our 8 month old black lab, Jackson, is all puppy. After months of attempting other training facilities, trying ourselves, and almost giving up hope, my fiance came across Barks 5th on CitySearch. Based on all the stellar reviews, we decided to meet Penny and have her help us with Jackson. In just three weeks, Penny successfully had our lab walking on a lead without pulling ahead, following all basic commands, and a master of the PLACE command. No longer does Jackson chew holes in the siding on the back of our home, he stays off of the furniture and does not jump up on the neighbors children. He is now our puppy who comes when called, chills out on his place without a problem, and even goes to bed on command! Penny gifted us with the skills and knowledge to be a happy family, and the ability to love Jackson more than we ever imagined possible! Thank you to Penny and all of her amazing staff at Barks 5th.

I have been taking my dog, Elvis, to Barks for over 2 years now to be groomed. The grooming they do is exceptional and couldn't be more pleased each time I take Elvis there. The service is so welcoming that when I call, they know exactly who Elvis is. Last year, for the first time, I boarded Elvis there for two weeks. And believe me, it was so hard for me to leave him anywhere! I was so happy with the service and love that they showed him that I will be boarding Elvis there again for two weeks this year! I won't take him anywhere else to be groomed or boarded! I highly recommend Barks 5th Avenue for your loved pets!

From the first moment I brought my 1 1/2 yr old yorkie, Bailey, to Barks 5th Avenue the staff was very nice and always helping with any questions that you may have. Their new location is AWESOME and the staff is always on top of their customers. I first brought Bailey to Barks 5th Avenue to be groomed and they did a GREAT job and I will definately bring her back time and time again. They ask you EXACTLY what you would like and very much EXCEED expectations. Once Bailey was groomed we asked her numerous questions about Bailey and her behaviours around the house and she was not potty trained to say the least. I had her trained previously by a so called professional dog trainer, but when she returned home it was a nightmare. I then spoke with Penny and the staff at Barks 4th Avenue and had a one hour session on potty training and her behaviours. After the session we decided to have her trained by Penny for about 3 weeks. We went to see her about once a week and at the end of the... Read more

Barks 5th Avenue is THE BEST home away from home for your pet! I have been taking my little white Pom, Charlie, to Bark's 5th Avenue for about three years. The staff is so friendly and the facility is very clean and very organized. Charlie always looks beautiful when I pick him up from being groomed and now the 'icing on the cake' is for Charlie to participate in Doggie Day Care! He has fun, gets excercise and sleeps very well when he arrives back home. I gladly give Bark's 5th Avenue a 5 Star Rating for their grooming skills, their warm, friendly, and welcoming spirit when Charlie arrives and their Doggie Day Care! Thanks Bark's 5th Avenue for providing such a wonderful service! :o)

We have been taking our dog (Mia) to Bark's 5th now for the last 4 months, and the experience has been great. We have tried other daycares for our dog, and none compares to the way Penny and her staff run her place. The staff is friendly, and everyone knows us and our precious Mia. It is truly her home away from home. We use Bark's 5th for daycare, boarding, and grooming, and would highly recommend any of their services. However, we also want to comment on Penny and her boarding training program. Mia is now a complete different dog thanks to her great training methods. She will teach your dog the basic commands (sit, lay-down, stay command, etc). the best trick is the "place" command, where Mia will place on a elevated dog bed until you release her. We had a party of over 30 people at my house, and we "placed" her and everyone was so amazed! I would hghly recommend Penny if anyone wants to train his/her dog right.

We are really excited about bringing Chester our 10yr old Shih Tzu to Barks 5th Ave.. He has been going to see Bernie (groomer) for about 6+ years at another location and when we heard she was going some where else I was panicked.. I told her we would follow her any where she goes and we did!! When Chester hears he's going for a bath with Bernie, he goes to the back door and wags his tail.. Our first appointment and visit at Barks 5th Ave. was really heart warming.. The ladies behind the counter were so kind and friendly to Chester, it felt really comforting to leave him at a new location. The facility is always very clean and has so many friendly faces, from the first step you make in the door. Thank you Bernie and Barks 5th Ave for the care you give Chester every other week.

I have been taking my dogs to Barks for a 9 years. It's great that the people that work there always remember you and your pet's name. The minute you walk in the door they greet both of us (me and my dog), and always give her that extra bit of tender loving care. A year ago we moved almost 12 miles away from Barks and tried several other groomers, none held a candle to Penny and her staff. We have since returned (even with the high price of gas), but our dog is our only child and she is worth the sacrifice!

I've used Barks for a number of years for grooming and boarding my Pug, Annie. I now have a new Pug baby named Boo, and she'll be visiting Barks for the first time tomorrow. Barks staff are all terrific with the pets who come thru their doors for whatever services are needed. Annie loves the doggie daycare where she can play and socialize with all the other small dogs. Barks is #1 in our book, and we wouldn't switch to anyone else. We trust and respect their staff, and admire the love of animals that they all demonstrate. It's just a great place! You'll love it.

This is my first time writing a review. This is such a great place I felt I should. I must admit I was skeptical about Bark's ability to do a good grooming job on my chow chow. I had been to several groomers and was disappointed with all of them. On the first visit I was amazed at how great he looked and smelled. His shedding stopped for a month. The staff is friendly and caring. I wouldn't think of taking my chow chow any place else. I highly recommend Barks 5th Avenue.

When I first called Barks for an appt, their customer service was phenomenal. They explained to me all about their services and facility and what I could expect, while answering all my questions. When I walked in, the place was so cute! It was clean and open with plenty of room for dogs to run and play. You can watch your loved one interact in the day care from the front desk and they even seperate the smaller dogs from the larger ones. The doggy day care really adds that extra touch to the grooming experience. I know my dog is picky about who grooms him and he seems to love Barks. I would reccomend this place to even the hardest to please pups.

I love this place! The staff is always very friendly on the phone and in person. They can always get you in on short notice and treat my Yorkie "Macy" like she is one of their own. "Macy" is my very first dog and I was clueless when it came to boarding and grooming and what to expect. They always walk me through the process and I am never disappointed in the results. I love their "doggy day care" when I am just going to be out of the house most of the day and want "Macy" to have a place to romp & play and make new friends. I recommend Barks to everyone!

THE FACILITY IS CLEAN BUT MOST OF ALL THE STAFF IS OUTSTANDING, KNOWLEDGABLE AND EXTEMELY FRIENDLY. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND BARKS 5TH AVENUE. ANGIE AND LARRY

Bark's provides outstanding pet services as well as helpful tips and hints for us owners to be the best for our beloved animals. My Maltese have been receiving weekly and bi-weekly grooms since they were 9 weeks old (they are now 4). As with most pet owners, my dogs are a part of my family and entrusting their care to someone esle is a huge decision that requires serious consideration. Considering Bark's is a great decision! You can truly feel at ease each time your animal is in their care, and know they are being loved, well cared for, and receiving a quality groom. Penny, the owner, is an experienced trainer as well as expert groomer. She has employed and developed an experienced staff that are always available to assist with any questions or concerns you may have regarding pet care. They are an exceptional group that will provide the quality service you expect for your pets, so please give them a try! Sammy and Sophia love you Penny, Roxanna, and Patty!

When I got my 4 pound Yorkie I needed a place she would feel comfortable with. I asked my vet, Jesey Village animal hospital who they recommended and they are the ones who pointed me to barks 5th ave. I am so glad because they have always been more than accomodating for all of my dogs needs, grooming and boarding. They always remember me and my dog. If you want a caring friendly staff you need to check it out for yourself.

We have used Penny (Owner) as a groomer for approximately 15 years. We were thrilled when she decided to open her first shop on Cypress N. Houston. Although the location was less convenient, we made the drive due to her compassion and love for animals and always felt our dogs were in the best of care. We are elated that the NEW location is closer to home and offers so much more. As the owner, she has developed a facility and staff representative of her beliefs. Over the years, they have accommodated many short notice grooming needs and recently, went out of their way to help us in a rescue situation. I would not consider another facility, as "peace of mind" is priority - our pets are considered part of our family and Barks 5th Avenue treats them as such!
