My first time in Barbados was December 2004, I stayed at Pegwell Inn Guest House (it no longer exists). It was close to amenities especially the beach and accessible to public transit. The lady was very accommodating, made me feel like at home rather than making me feel like I was just a guest. I returned in May for about 2 weeks (into early June). Then my travels have increased to twice a year starting 2006. I was just there in January and there is never a dull moment. I've made some wonderful friends here. This beautiful country has me kept coming back to. I plan on returning soon.

Over the last 25 years the Barbados tourism product has undergone numerous changes; however I still believe that despite these changes you can still have the best Barbados vacation possible even with the increase cost of living. There has been some concern with crime in the Caribbean but Barbados has remained pretty safe to compare with other regional destinations. Visitors to Barbados can still enjoy the nightlife and day tours in a safe friendly environment. I’ve had good experiences in a number of restaurants these include Bubbas, Just Grillin and Champers to name a few. The service has been friendly and prompt, this not to discount Samjung bad experience but simply to point out that there is still some quality in the system. One area that some attention has been paid to in recent years have been the Barbados hotels. Many of them has undergone significant refurbishment to offer conditions that are on par with the develop world. So all in all Barbados remains a safe w... Read more

I agree with Mariane's scary comment. Barbados definitely is less scary than both Jamaica and Trinidad. Crime has remained very low in comparison to the other Caribbean islands and visitors should feel safe to vacation in Barbados. In response to samjung. I personally think your statement that white tourists have begun to take over should be rephrased but anyways... Yes Barbados Tourism is going through a developing stage. But this is due to the fact that tourists are visiting the island and loving there stay here. That leads to expansion and increased standards of living for any country. It is in the hands of the government, Barbados Tourism Board and the people of the island to maintain the island's personality and authenticity. With regards to the hospitality in the service industry I agree with you and have always thought it can be greatly improved. I believe it is in the hands of the owners of stores, restaurants and hotels to ensure that a certain level of hospitality an... Read more

It's more run down than Bermuda, but much less scary than Jamaica. The weather is reliably good and we just loved the way everything at our hotel, except our room, was out of doors -- like were were living in a tree house -- very different.

I previously gave a review, but I have decided to change it as I have recently visited. I feel that for me, Barbados has changed. The white tourists have begun to take over, and the island is definitely taking on a more tourist-oriented atmosphere. The cost-of-living is starting to rise, and new high-rise hotels are going up like nobody's business! Service here is terrible. Horrible! I went to buy a camera and the salesman refused to help me or show me a camera. The waitresses are horrible and apathetic. A lot of the help in stores and businesses will treat you like an idiot or a child. Usually, I am nice and understanding to help, but in Barbados I had to get embarassingly nasty, almost exactly like you have to do in New York City. Some people don't get it until you shout. I've worked retail in bargain stores too, and I've found the level of service in even expensive department stores to be embarassingly amateur. Anyway, this is an great island for those that have money. Unfortunately... Read more

One of the nicer islands in the Caribbean. The Atlantic side of the island has great beaches for surfing and a rugged coastline. The western Caribbean side has less waves and is much flatter. Bridgetown itself is nothing special. Get out into the countryside; there's lots of great scenery there. Visit the cave in the middle of the island, very interesting. Overall, a decent vacation destination.

I was quite dissapointed by Barbados. The people are quite unfriendly and the beauty overrated. Don't waste your money on this distant outpost in the cold Atlantic sea..!

This Island is numero uno on my list, I love Bridgetown, it's a great city with great beaches and super people. We've been there twice now and we'd return every year if we could. I really liked the Boatyard, it's a cool cabana style bar on the beach that has great 2 for 1 deals, definitely worth a visit, it that's your type of thing. Also, check out the botanical gardens, they were absolutely breathtaking and we practically had the place to ourselves, really something else.

Reminds me alot of Jamaica but with a more English flavor. Really beautiful beaches.

Barbados is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL (friendly people, wonderful music, beautiful weather and beaches.) The best way to experience the island (or any other country) is not to jump on the all-inclusive band-wagon.They seclude you and create a false luxury environment. Rather, stay in a relatively small hotel where you can step outside easily and experience true local cuisine, culture, and the lively spirit of the island.

I find it very depressing to vacation next to natives who can't even afford to put gas in their scooter.
