Baptist

They pretty much just teach salvation which is very important but what about those that have been saved? They get very little from the local Baptist church. They have to teach from a quarterly,not what the local pastor chooses. I went for years and here is what I saw pretty much every Sunday....Sing a few songs,talk about members sick and pray,pass the plate which will shame those that are broke,maybe give a verse or two while giving a feel good short sermon,alter call,dismiss. Hard to learn much there.Nice people and sincere,but not much teaching.

I grew up Baptist, changed to Assemblies of God in my early 20s. Glad I did make the change.

Back in the day Baptist’ were very strict and conservative, but nowadays there are so many denominations and so many false teachers and doctrines that there is no longer a church that you can call this or that! What you need to do is go visit a church and see were they are at and what is being preached and lived! You may find that the only bible believing, preaching church in your area is the one you least expected!! Even though my preference is Baptist, I would be the first to say that not all are the best for spiritual growth and Christian fellowship and quite a few have wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing!!!

The Baptist church is actually not protestant, as it originated with Christ's ministry here on earth. It wasn't called Baptist, but, simply 'Christianity'. Christ did not come to 'protest' anything, but, to 'seek and to save' sinful mankind by His death, burial and resurrection. Justice requires punishment, yet, by His grace He took the punishment for everyone who comes to Him seeking salvation. It is gift and cannot be earned. Most denominations were started by certain identified people, at a specific time in a specific location, such as Charles and John Wesley (The Methodist church) at Oxford, England in 1727. Christ called the twelve Apostles, was baptized by His first cousin John the Baptist,confronted Saul (later Paul) on the Damascus Road, turned the water into wine, and raised Lazarus from the dead. That is where and when the church which is now known as Baptist began, with Jesus Christ Himself.

The Baptist church was where I first learned about the Lord.

In regards to a particular denomination, their teachings are closest to what I believe, but Christs "Church" isn't a particular denomination, it's the whole group of the believers of  Christ Jesus that make up the Body of Christ (The Church).

A conservative Church. Just my own opinion  but there over all rating will go up with out Jerry Falwell Fighting Hustler magazine, P.T.L take over , Teletubby war etc.

I've been part of the Baptist denomination my whole life, and I have mixed feelings about it. While I feel I was taught the Bible nicely, it wasn't as thorough as I'd have liked it. We read certain passages but never discussed the Bible as a whole. Also, being non-white at a white Baptist Church was just uncomfortable; they seemed to ostracize us for not being like them.Basically, while Baptism is a good denomination, it was not religious and serious enough for me. I felt far away from God numerous times and many church members were not concerned enough to help me through this even when I asked for it. But this is based soley on experience.

One of the few protestant groups that still base their beliefs in the Bible and God.Thank goodness.

I know quite a few Baptists, but being in a Baptist Church gives me the willies. It is way too low church for me. I'd as soon be in an auditorium. I also want my clergyman to wear something besides a common suit.

The illiterate thing is getting you nowhere, man. I don't really like 'em because they told me I was going to hell once or twice and judgement, as many of us know, isn't a selling point for me...

I was raised in the Baptist church. very plain church, not as ritualistic as say, Catholic, Lutherans, methodist ect... but the Bible is not fully preached, they will not consider subjects, such as Faith, healing, prosperity, tounges. as they believe that is not for todays church. I have left the baptist church now, I still love the people but they do not have the faith to believe Gods full Word. Great people, but I can imagine Jesus sitting around a table of Baptist, Lutherans, Catholics, Methodist, ect... He would probably say "oh you of little Faith."

Has the MOST goof balls. Know why baptist don't believe in sex. It might lead to dancing.

They believe in the Gospel, and serve our Lord, How can they be called bad? (individuals may be bad, but lets try to avoid stereotypes, were talking about the body of Christ here, and that goes for all Bible believing denominations.)

There are good Baptist churches and not so good. It is hard to rate since they are all over the map. Some of the liberal Baptists are not worth the trip on a Sunday morning. Some more conservatives, such as GARB (General Association of Regular Baptists) are a scary bunch of legalistics that would probably be more concerned with what you are wearning (Male: why aren't you wearing a tie? Female: Look at the length of the skirt on that hussy.) They also don't beleive that aborted/miscarried babies go to heaven. Too convinced they ar the only ones going to heaven. Independent Baptist churches and the Southern Convention are your best bets with the belief that salvation is secure for eternity. On the other hand, Baptists don't believe things that happened in the Bible (Acts) are still for today (tongues, miraculous healings, prophetic announcements) All in all, though, a very good, evangelical, fundamental church (if you tend to be a conservative).

This church helped me to find Jesus more than my mom's Roman Catholic church. I'm not saying that the Catholic church is bad or anything, though. The Baptist church I go to isn't pushy at all. They do evangelize but they aren't the "down-your-throat" type.

First, let me say that I don't belong to any denomination and I don't believe in them either. Denominations, whether Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, or whatever, are simply human inventions. In the eyes of God, you have either believed in Christ for your salvation or you have not. If you have believed Christ then you are a member of the only Church that God recognizes: the Body of Christ. As for baptists; there is such a wide diversity of them and their beliefs that it would not be fair to make a single opinion of them. I do agree with most baptists--that the believer is eternally secure; once he is saved, he will always be saved. I disagree with this myth that most baptists seem to buy into; that is that they believe that their church had its beginnings with John the Baptist.

The baptists I know are good people. For the most part they preach the word. They aren't even close to being as misguided as some on this list.

Having had to live in Georgia for the past 15 years, I can honestly say that Southern Baptists scare me. Some of the most intolerant people I have ever met. And when they get behind the wheel, especially in Atlanta, and you can tell its them by the fish on the back of their SUV, they are about as un-christian as one can get.

From my experience, I have found Baptist churches to be very phony. I value genuine people and could never find any in the Baptist church.

I have many Baptist friends, and I love every single one of them. Good for them for loving the god of their choice !
